  1. He drove way too fast down the pit straight where _most_ people were either cooling down or exiting the pits at low speed with no real distance from the pit exit to the first corner. Given that it was a track day, not a test day, he was driving like a dangerous idiot. If he wanted to go fast, he should have been doing it on the main straight on the nordschlief. Would I expect a refund? No, it was a trackday - it happens. Did the ring lose money? No, because the trackday was fully paid for, it wasn't TF, and repair costs would normally be recovered from the crashed driver. I'm can still be annoyed I lost more than the last hour of the day I'd paid for though - plenty of time for 4 or 5 more laps.
  2. I was there - he went into turn 1 so fast the car went clean over the barriers so all the clean up work was being done on a whole different part of the circuit where you couldn't have crashed if you tried. All I care about is he caused early closure of the track day, which cost a pretty penny to attend let me tell you. The next day, the marshalls had put out a load of cones and speed limit signs to warn anyone else.
  3. No worse than any other tourist spot - Oxford street is heaving with them. Standard precautions will suffice.
  4. As long as your hotel is in the historic quarter, just get a guide book and walk around, its great. Be prepared to queue to get into the Vatican. Also, go out for dinner late and listen out for Italians eating in the restaurant - it's the best way to pick a place with great food.
  5. FWIW: http://www.burgstube.com/Ringdates2012-1.pdf Seeing as the German government is trying to oust the current management, who knows what is actually going to transpire... Mike, perhaps you could think about visiting an alternative like the Hungaroring - I've heard good reports even to the point of it being better than the Nurburgring.
  6. Not really - all the sanctions and money-stopping mechanisms in the bill will simply promote non-American facilities to spring up, non-American web hosting, etc. The Internet will just self-heal, without America. They'll effectively cut themselves off. Anyway, the politicians pushing this are already changing allegiences based on personal re-election concerns, given the public resistance to this.
  7. I expect Wikipedia is just blocking US IP addresses for the day (works here too) - no point in alienating the rest of the world!
  8. Surely all those companies will just move offshore and the US'll wind up crippled for technical talent. Some ridiculous US-centric legislation couldn't really affect the Internet for the rest of the world.
  9. Just keep your foot in for 2 seconds, and assuming your not actually driving far too fast for the conditions, snow mode will switch itself off. More importantly, it comes off smoothly and progressively as it re-opens the throttle. If you opt to just switch off the TC, make sure you've got your insurance company on speed dial
  10. I'm really pleased with my Yokohama Advan Neova tyres - been through a maybe a dozen trackdays now, including at least 15 laps of the ring plus the drive there and back, plenty of tread left. Great for BPU cars IMO.
  11. I might be interested in a couple of weeks ... once the dust has settled paying for Christmas. Do you happen to know what DB this rates?
  12. How old is it? How many miles has it done?
  13. What brand is this? By which I mean, who made it? Also, are those rain guards in the last picture? How heavy is it?
  14. I've seen it done with zip ties before - ugly, cheap solution but it works. Better way is the kind of zip-anchor used on electric fans. You can get them from demon tweeks.
  15. My bet is a mutual friend has picked up a virus that spoofed as you and mailed a bunch of people you both know, hense everyone thinks it's you. Mail spoofing is so easy it's not even funny. Only way to work it out is from the original email headers.
  16. So, if you can't see any messages listed as sent, how do you know you've sent them?
  17. I always thought that Alfred was a bit sus
  18. Sounds good. The first one was a pretty slim story when you got down to it - only took a few hours to replay if you focused and didn't get sidetracked with the bonus missions.
  19. Loved the first one of these, been waiting for ages for this one. What side games does this one have? More riddles? Something to replace the Arkham stones?
  20. The moon has gravity, so meteor strikes wouldn't be able to eject all or even _most_ of the debris created.
  21. They are about £700 new from Toyota, with seals, according to my invoice from Autoglass one time. Pattern ones will be cheaper.
  22. Tom, we got a quote of 650 to recover our subaru back to the uk. That was from Lizard Logistics who often works the Nurburgring route - lots of broken cars to bring back from there! They flat-bed them, so it doesn't matter if its a non-runner.
  23. My pleasure buddy. Did your mates pull the whole "we were on our cool downs" after we passed them? I agree, it's clear we can't drum up enough participants to book the whole track to ourselves, but block-booking onto an existing day must be an option, surely. Buying power usually means discounts too Plus Spa is half the price of the Ring for trackdays.
  24. I ran into George (Kermit) at Spa the day after. He mentioned the big crash, mentioned his car was running on 5 cylinders, but it seems he didn't get involved in the incident. I think the whole problem with TF was epitomised for me this year, waiting over an hour for a bent ferrari to be recovered (yeah I know, only a short stoppage!). The owner was driving in slacks and shirt, girlfriend with high heels and miniskirt, no sign of safety gear at all. People just rock up and go out for hi-jinks.
  25. Anyone else noticed that Space Marine (read: the other GoW) has already started dropping in price despite only being out for less than 2 weeks? They were always on to a loser with the timing of that release.
