I spend a bit of time on SC as well. What's their username?

sdminus, Just out of interest, are you registered on Scoobycity?
  3. A standard classic WRX should be able to cope with a full decat without any adverse overboost or fuel cut issues. Standard boost pressure is about 0.9 - 1 bar for the saloon cars and approximately 0.8 for the wagons. On the original map, fuel cut occurs at a little over 1.1bar If your mate is going the decat route then, and if he hasn't done so already, he should invest in a Knocklink and a boost gauge and possibly an AFR gauge as well. As a side note, the car as standard will only have one cat which is located in the downpipe. The centre section just has a resonater in it. Hope that helps.
  4. I get lots of attention in mine as well. Wherever I go people turn to look and stare............................................................ Mind you, it might have something do with the fact I haven't got any anti-squeal shims fitted to the brakes!
  5. I know of an 'R' plate Volvo V40 with 115k on the clock going for £2200 or best offer above that, if you're interested? Based in Norwich as well, so not a million miles away from you.
  6. How about that? My first 'Was it You' spot and it gets a response.
  7. You were heading up onto the clockwise carriageway after coming from the Godstone direction.
  8. Thanks for the input folks, I could well be sorted now.
  9. Has anyone had direct experience of using them for servicing/mechanical work at all? Need a few bits and bobs doing (cambelt, fitting of anti-squeal shims) and location wise they're the most convenient dealer to get to. All constructive input appreciated. Thanks.
  10. The passenger seat looks to be pushed all the way back, which isn't really necessary unless you're about 7ft tall! So there is a bit more room there, albeit not much more as you say. However, I can sit reasonably comfortably in the back of my wagon (6' 3", 17 stones), although I probably wouldn't want to do a longish journey sitting back there. Modding? Virtually impossible to resist. The big benefit of the later Subaru's is that you can remap the existing ECU to run on Super unleaded/Optimax and make the most of the bits the car has. In any event, if I was purchasing that car the first thing I'd would do is either remove the full decat or have the car remapped properly for it. Classic STi's can and do blow up when decatted and the map isn't altered to suit - especially if it's only been run on Optimax as the ad suggests. STi's are more highly strung than the WRX and do need to be run on Optimax and octane booster, preferably NF. 'tis a cracking car, though.
  11. How about a late STi Wagon? No leather seats as standard, but you can easily swap in some leather seats from another Scoob. It's not mine by the way.
  12. Perhaps it's £1.55 + VAT for each clip rather than per bag of 5? £1.55 + VAT = £1.82, multiply by two and you have £3.64.
  13. RoGuE I got my flush fitting bonnet locks from here: http://www.larkspeed.com/index.pl?c=GRAYBONLK I specifically wanted a lockable set from a security perspective and also to stop the c/f bonnet from flapping around at speed. As they're flush fitting it also means that in the event of a pedestrian colliding with me they wouldn't get torn to shreds.

  18. Tools ready for another concerted attempt this weekend - I'll let you know how I get on. I've got a good feeling about the speedo connection but I think the tacho signal is going to require me to employ some wire stuffing, bodger-ism par excellence The only way you'll know how to fix a car is by breaking it first.
  19. Don't forget the time I nearly set fire to myself changing a MX-5 battery. Oh, and the intercooler episode, too.
  20. I did offer, but was told that I wouldn't be required. Apparently it has to be done properly. Pah!
