    Grand National

    Woohoo! £80 richer
  3. Very good advice there. It's well worth spending just a few extra £ to someone like Jurgen to manage the whole process for you. Jurgen is very highly regarded here, after all his imports (here and elsewhere) I don't recall seeing a single complaint.
  4. If the northern/Mids folks don't mind slumming it there are some spare rooms at my place (Reading) if you want to head here on Friday evening.
  5. Refresh the screen Gaz, messed up the links on the first attempt
  6. Thread closed now we have a date, please see here for sign-up details: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=146150
  7. Saturday 10th May is booked with Charlie at SRR for the club The prices are the same as previous years: if we have more than 12 power runs it's £40 per car. If you have any special requirements for the day (e.g. mapping session) please PM me so we can see if it can be fitted in. Ensure you add your name to the calendar entry here. Please ONLY put down as a definite if you have a full intention of coming. If you are unsure, use the Maybe option (these can be updated by yourself at any point). Numbers are not so important so there isn't pressure to get a big group. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=628&day=2008-5-10&c=1 Surrey Rolling Road Ltd, Unit 120, Qinetiq Chobham lane, Surrey, KT16 0EE Email: [email protected] Phone : 01276 686111 Mobile : 07787 114847 http://www.multimap.com/maps/?hloc=GB|KT16%200EE#t=l&map=51.3817,-0.5923|12|4&loc=GB:51.3817:-0.5923:16|KT16%200EE|KT16%200EE I would appreciate it if you could post up details here: 1) If you intending to participate 2) Which timeslot preference you have (specify which hours are possible, e.g. 10am to 11am or 1pm to 4pm Here are the planned timeslots, please confrim Thursday 8th May latest if these are suitable or if you cannot make it. 10.00 to 11.00 1. 2. 8. To be updated shortly...
  9. Jay, I'm not sure if it helps but here's a quick list of the heavy items in the supra which can easily be removed or replaced with far lighter items - spare wheel - driver and passenger seat - front speakers and platsic enclosures - rear speakers and brakets - rear seat back - cabin carpet - AC system (seriously heavy!) - UK brakes - washer bottle (doesn't need to hold a gallon of fluid in front of the wheel!) - much of the wiring loom and stock amp - even the stereo wiring weighes a good few kilos
  10. Lovely job, makes such a difference to the look. Far more modern
  11. Are you looking for an aftermarket lower lip or one of the stock plastic ones Emin? I had a few people offer one when I was looking so could pass on details if it's any use.
  12. Thanks mate Definetly got some good contacts now if any other work needs doing Really happy with the job they did.
  13. Thats including the box isn't it? It states the block is 46kg so can't imagine the heads, etc weighing in at 180kg! Oh and thanks for the link Jamie Very nice indeed, but rather outside of my budget!
  14. Is that a full running weight (i.e. with the turbo's and all)? I was sure they were more than that! The LS1 is 175kg running weight
  15. Ignorance is bliss, at least for the ISP's Latency, contention ratio's, concurent connections, port throttleing all play a factor. We might get high burst rates until they start all the throttling, ip blocks, packet filering, etc. For example, can you display a shot of speedtest results to show you have a true 20mb connection? Right now I bet you cannot get anywhere near your connection from a single site - even one with the capability to deliver it. Newsgroups are the only "sure" place to get high download speeds in the near future but I doubt it'll be long before attempts to throttle those begin.
  16. Yes I'm sure as are the industry experts. No matter which medium is used to transfer data there is always loss of signal strength. Fibre is less than copper, but it still suffers from proportional losses of signal strength the further the terminal is from the exchange If that wasn't the case we'd all be using Bredbandsbolaget as our ISP And no, current fibre connections to homes in the UK cannot manage anywhere near 10gb/s. 30mb/s is the theoretical max for the majority of home users, it can burst to more, but no major ISP has the capabilities to deliver this to the masses with current infrastructure. To reliably achieve more it'd mean a massive (multi billion pound) upgrade to our current cable systems. ADSL users have no chance of getting anywhere near this until BT give up the ghost and replace their copper system.
  17. In a very bad way! I had RSR 'race' springs on mine with Toyota Bilstein dampers, the handling was absolutely horrible even after a "lanceW" allignement and stock wheels/tyres fitted. I changed to Eibach springs and the car handled SO much better. Suddenly the car was driveable! However if you're after a full custom setup Chris is the man to speak to, no question.
  18. IMO it'd look lovely (potential show winning) being just one colour. The white "gob" will make it a bit, 'chav'? Matt, I'm sure you won't take offence, you've been here long enough to know we all have very different views on styling
  19. Erm, yes it does There is always loss even with fibre connections. The major problem cable providers have is their servers
  20. I'm really sorry to say it Matt, but it was looking great until those pics. To put it in the nicest possible way, that looks bad Why not just paint it the same purple colour as the rest of the car, you were on a winner there
  21. Same here Jake, except I upgraded a few years ago and am due to the free 50 meg connection in summer What many forget is that the max download rates are linked to the distance from the exchange. So, for some, even though they pay for 20mb, they might only get 2mb due to their distance. My folks live out in the sticks and paid for an 8mb service. Final delivery is only 110kb. Thats not even twice the speed of dialup they had before! Sky say "tough luck" because they are so far from the exchange. The max speeds also have very little impact on web browsing, those are almost completely dependant on the proxy servers. In reality most web browsing doesn't make any real world difference whether you are on 512k or 20mb connections. Torrents/high availabilty downloads are where things are different between the services, however most ISP's are attempting to stop these in the near future.
  22. You did that on purpose, didn't you
  23. Welcome to 2004 Has the speed actually increased? Try here to confirm: http://www.speedtest.net/
  24. I agree with Paul here, there is a hell of a lot of massively overpriced kitchen suppliers out there. Some of the prices I've seen for really basic parts are rediculous (e.g. One local "designer" kitchen company was charging 5 times the trade price on their taps). IME Howdens are one of the best out there for good quality and realistically priced kictchens, though you do need to know someone in the trade to use them. (In reality they'll deal with anyone with a company ). As Jamie mentions, it's final finish is all in the fitting...
  25. And only this morning I found an ancient Death Angel cassette in a cupboard... only problem is there's nothing to play it in now! Also, Guns and Roses Appetite for Destruction is being played in full tonight on Radio 1 (no breaks at all)
