  1. Kaan, even on a bog standard NA mine ran terribly in hot weather without the shroud, it just didn't seem happy at all, poor idle, poor pickup, etc (no fancy gauges to monitor, but I've owned supra's long enough to know when one isn't happy). As soon as I fitted the shroud it all settled down and had a small gain in performance. Multiply that many times from the heat a single turbo produces and you have your issue identified.
  2. Edit - scratch that, they don't do stock rear sizes. Vredestein it is then.
  3. Crikey, los of opinions, thanks all Ian makes a good point and that's kind of cleared my head a bit of all the questions The T1-R's I bought lasted only about 3k on the fronts of mine, they are a sof compound and perform well, but I can't have them wearing so quickly. They wore out on the very inside though the tread indicators are just about okay. It's more likely an issue with the geometry of my car so I will get it to Wheels in motion this week once the new tyres arrive (which I still have to select. I'm going to try again for the 452's, Black circles don't have them in the sizes but hopefully camskill will (edit: Camskill have no stock either). Okay, back to the other brands
  4. After fitting the TRD 2 way diff it is performing fantastic at lower speeds and hooning around twisties, but today I used it for the first time on the motorway. At higher speeds (over the legal limit, and into 3 digits) the car pulls to the left under full acceleration, then when lifting off it pulls to the right. It's quite noticeable and felt a little unstable in general, more so when lifting off. This was not present when the worn out and noisy open diff was installed. The car is only an NA so we're not talking about a lot of torque here. I am certain it's installed correctly and every bolt is done up to the torque settings in the service manual. Is this normal with a clutch type diff? I think maybe it's showing up something isn't correct somewhere else on the rear of the car. Any ideas or input appreciated.
  5. This site was put together by an old member from this club. I think his name was John, he was an 'interesting' character
  6. Nuts, really? I can't find 452's anymore... I have used these before and absolutely hated them Dunk. They were on my old single but I really didn't get on with them at all. Bloody hell, what to go for now... I'm still tempted by the Toyo's even though they wear out quickly....
  7. The nMichelin and Good years are a fair bit more expensive and since I'm in the middle of buying a house money is a bit tight. I know the old argument, but I don't drive the car that hard and it's only an NA
  8. I need 3 new tyres for my car, but realise I am hopelessly out of touch on what to go for these days. I have Toyo Proxys T1R's on the front but they wore out very quickly (about 3k miles), I think they are quite a soft compound as they gripped well. On the rear I have Falken FK542's. Most of the resllers now only stock the 453's, is there much of a difference and would there be an issue mixing the 452 and 453 on the rear? I'd prefer to stick to the same all round so will either go for the Falkens or Toyo's... any suggestions?
  9. After the chat, I'm near convinced it's the crown wheel that's failed and nothing to do with the box. Good luck sorting it Steve, sounds like you have found your parts already
  10. It looks to me like it's got a knock on each rotation of the prop so it doesn't rule out either... Is the prop and all the rubber cushions still intact? No missing bolts of anything? If you leave it out of gear and rotate one of the wheels with the other locked up, can you feel the knock though the wheel? Do you still have my number Steve? Feel free to give me a call and I can talk you though some checks
  11. If it were me, I'd jack the rear of the car up and rotate one of the wheels with the prop located, then unlocked, you should be able to hear better where it's coming from. Have a really good look at the propshaft too as one of the cushions may have failed in that too. Also check your driveshafts. Very rare to go if it's the box... I'd be more inclined to say a prop or crown/pinion wheel problem, they are normally first points of failure on the big diff-6 setup Shame you're not local, I have a spare prop, driveshafts and diff from an NA. Not ideal but it'd get you up and running for a bit.
  12. No mate, It's the crown and pinion wheels that determine the ratio, the diff bolts to the crown wheel. I was lucky that this diff came off an NA so it was already setup and bolted to the NA crown wheel, simple swap job. If you were buying new it's a bit more pricey as the diff has to be partially dismantled and the new one setup.
  13. Which one did you fit Luc? was it 1, 1.5 or 2 way?
  14. No need mate, you just get the diff that fits in your casing, not sure if the diff itself is different between the big and small casing but I expect they are... If you got the small casing, you could definitely fit the same one I have.
  15. Been meaning to install this for a while and finally got round to it today. Got to say, what a total transformation over the open one (or even a Torsen). It is just so much more planted in and out of the corners, I wish I had fitted one of these to my old single supra. If anyone with a high power car hasn't driven one with a 'proper' clutch type diff, I recommend you have a go in one. They are worlds apart from the stock ones. It's just a shame mines an NA! Edit: Oh and I should mention, it's not a good idea to corner hard with the aero top off and one of these, talk about chassis twist!!!!
  16. Thanks mate, just placed an order for some of the stuff The Turtleshead mentioned. 2nd question though, I'm trying to find the correct sealant for the carrier cover. Toyota wanted £69 for their one!! Is there an off the shelf alternative?
  17. Thanks guys, I was about to buy GL3 75/90 as that's what a number of people have recommended. To help my understanding, why would 75/140 be needed for this diff type over 75/90? I understand the GL5 rating of the 75/140 is for heavy duty use, but this is going in an NA 5spd I'll go purchase the 75/140 anyway
  18. I'm now 99% certain that the diff I have is a TRD one, but reading on SF it seems there is a specific "TRD" oil these need. Is that correct?
  19. From what I can find so far it looks to be a TRD diff, can anyone confirm?
  20. Pulled this off a friends NA Supra today but we're not certain what diff this is. It's in the small casing, it was said to be an LSD but it's not a Torsen one. There are some small stamp marks on the diff housing but it's not light enough to see them properly. I'll try and get some better pics tomorrow with a proper camera
  21. Thanks Rich, I had a part number from the service manual but it was different to the one you mentioned. Anyhow I don't really want to pay Toyota prices and wait for delivery, so does anyone else know if this sealant is standard stuff?
  22. Quick question, what sealant should be used on the diff carrier cover? The manual says "Three Bond 1389 or equivalent", but I have no idea what they is in lay mans terms!
