If it is there are a lot of rare and now very expensive parts on it. V160, big diff, uprated clutch, Apexi ECU (Mapped by 2bar tuning), Boostlogic exhaust, retrimmed interior, full Focal sound system, etc. 36k spend on it during my time with it, the next owner (Darren) spent at least 10k and then further owners down the line someone put naff body mods on it

Oh shit, that looks like my old car after the last owner messed it up with silly mods

When I got my first supra it had the smaller stock brakes and they were awful. A lot of people at the time suggested I change to UK brakes, but instead I replaced the discs with new OEM items, the pads for Chris Wilson 'fast road', swapped the OEM rubber lines to Goodrich braided ones and replaced the fluid (and flushed it) with a high quality DOT5.1. The difference was incredible, I took a couple of people out for a drive who owned UK cars (with the bigger OEM brakes as stock) and they were amazed how well it stopped. I kept with this brake setup even after the car was converted to single turbo. The only issues I had was when I went to track days, they did fade and were not up to the job of continuous heavy, high speed braking (which is almost impossible on the road, unless you drive silly speeds) What I'm saying is that unless you drive like an absolute loon a well serviced set of the smaller brakes are fine for road use even with smaller powered single turbo cars. If they are not performing then there is a wear issue or they need servicing. The UK's are even better and I have been using them on my current Supra for 5 years. They don't have as nice a 'feel' as the smaller ones, but the brake performance is brilliant. I honestly wouldn't even consider aftermarket unless you are going for track day use, in which case a proper set of brakes will cost well over a grand (or 2 or 3!) and need regular servicing. Edit to add: As others have said, the sliders on the small brakes have a habit of sticking which seriously impacts their performance. They are easily fixed with a simple service and it doesn't cost much at all (sometimes nothing except a few hours of time). The rears are particularly prone to this.

I'm still undecided, as is my wife. It worries me that if two people, who are fairly intelligent, who have listened to all sides of the argument, spent hours (dozens) reading into the economic/social impacts and still don't see a clear path - what are the general populace going to base their decision on? I do hope it's not the rubbish that's posted via social media (from both sides). I honestly think that the people who should be making this decision should not be the voting public of the UK. That said, I don't have a better suggestion...

Help/Advice needed - Supra Single Turbo 1993 - MOT Emissions Test
Homer replied to supra_24's topic in Supra Chat
PM on it's way to you. Provided the car passes all other MOT tests it'll get put through in a legitimate way and thus bypassing the cat check. It's entirely legal. -
Welcome to the club There's plenty of owners with NA-T cars on here, but very few I can think of with the VVTi lump. Where are you in Northamptonshire? There's quite a few of us locals around, our (proper) first meet will be planned soon.

I'm nerdish enough to look into this (previously, no time any more ), both points are correct for Jspec cars. Export cars have several different variations

To be honest I'd expect some people to pay you for this swap! It's not as easy going from manual to auto as it is the other way round though. The auto boxes and parts are fairly worthless. Keron probably has a crate full of auto pedals, ECU's, looms, shifters, clocks, dash panel, etc. The tricky part would be the right looms in, you'd need new dash loom, engine loom and maybe even chassis loom (not sure on that one) instrument cluster, etc

That's stunning! Going to be a long few days for you

Thanks or the replies, but 4k for this car is widely optimistic (As much as I would like that to be true!). It does need a respray, Christian (Invisible Touch detailing) looking at it a few years ago and said it wasn't really worth mopping. I fully agree with you! I don't have the time or patience to deal with breaking it, Keron will be my first point of call if it doesn't sell as a package, I won't be breaking it myself.

Not for sale just yet, but I need some ideas on what I can redeem from the car (once the best parts of the car are fitted to my other one, below is the car spec after the nicer parts are swapped for stock. It will be fully MOT'd and in road worthy condition) 1994 NA 5spd Silver Aerotop Supra - CAT D from 2003 or around then. Very minor damage to the front slam panel which was replaced. - Previously owned by 'Dude', ex 10 second drag car - Originally a TT GZ Auto (but now with an NA and 5spd) - w58 trans with a Stage 2 Competition clutch and pressure plate - OEM spats and skirts (Skirts have some damage and need a repair, thanks wife) - HKS adjustable height suspension (fronts refurbed with new rings, adjusters, rears not) - Stock 17in wheels with stock sized tyre's (wheels need a refurb). Tyre's are nearly new. - ABS - Non-LSD diff - 'Jspec' brakes - 'Big' stock radiator - UK glass Headlights - Facelift front indicators - TRD cutout front wings - Re-painted dash panels in graphite, great condition - Completely unknown mileage, but assumed to be low, probably less than 80k miles (MOT says 66k Miles) - Chassis condition is good aside from some outer sill damage, no rust Issues: - Paintwork is terrible, the panels don't match, different shades of silver. Lacquer lifting on rear bumper. Paint peeling on front bumper. It needs a full respray. - Some small rust patches appearing on the tailgate and aero roof - Clutch judders on initial engagement, suspected bent input shaft on the w58. It occurred before and after the clutch & flywheel change. It drives fine and has been for around 5 years. - PAS cooler lines need replacing It's probably the worse supra on this forum but I still expect it to have some value as it's an aero and having a 5spd. Any thoughts on value as a whole package? I do expect it's worth more parting it out and scrapping/selling the shell.

That sounds like a good idea Will check with a few of the other locals and see if we can sort something out during a weekend. There's plenty of nice places around to get some pics and have some good grub
-
Yep, that's my house, I saw you too I was on a work call otherwise I would have said hello.
-
I really should have remembered to contact you first, apologies! The last clutch I got from you has been working great the last 4(?) years, despite me best efforts Email on it's way. Thanks guys, I'll wait to see what the price is like from keron as I know his one is also tried and tested in the TT's. Great to know the 3+ is an option and shown to last.

Yep, it was you I didn't realise you lived so close, that's just down the road.

Any recommendations? I'm looking for something not to harsh on engagement (so full face and not paddle) with a stock flywheel. Does anyone have any experience of the Spec range, or other recommendations? I'm aware the w58 is a weak point and probably won't last, so will be aiming for about 1.0 bar boost (UK spec so a less torque and softer torque curve). These are the two I'm considering: Stage 2+: http://www.garagewhifbitz.co.uk/toyota/supra/clutches-flywheels/spec-clutch-1561.html Stage 3+: http://www.garagewhifbitz.co.uk/toyota/supra/clutches-flywheels/spec-clutch-1563.html I already have a new OEM flywheel ready. Is anyone using these clutches on a TT 5spd?

One step forward, two back. Picked up a new battery and tow rope today. Got the car started on the first turn (first time in about 9 months), but a few seconds after the fuel return line burst (This was one of the unnecessary aftermarket bits added by the last garage and needed to be removed anyway - why would a BPU car need a -8 return?!). Turns out the braided line was held on by a much too large B&Q style hose clamp which has over time cause the line to split. Also topped up the pressure in the tyres to have one of the valves blow out on the front. Need to get that fixed now Then the tow rope I bought didn't fit. Got a replacement lower spec one, also didn't fit. Going to try again on Sunday to see if things go better. I also need advice on a clutch choice, will post in Tech for that. Fuel leak - dumped a lot in a very short time!

Think this is the same one I've seen before. Black with black wheels, on Fishponds road next to my house. Sounded like an NA auto
-
Thanks for all the input gents! I'll stop being a fanny and just move it to the road. Good points made about the number plate change, I won't be doing that now!

Why mate? Worse than just having no tax/MOT/insurance? I was only thinking of it in case of an ANPR hit
-
I need to change the diff, a driveshaft and gearbox on my Blue Supra (no tax, MOT or insurance) and cannot do it on my driveways as it's on a slope. I'm thinking of putting on my silver Supra's number plate and doing the work at the top of my driveway, however this is technically a public road. I say public, but it's a dead end and only used by 4 houses (1 to the left of us and 2 to the right). There's no traffic and there's plenty of access space for passing cars. The road just above this is only used by traffic to our village, so not that much coming past, but the police do use it as a short cut quite regularly. Are there any laws about leaving a car on axle stands/wheels-off on a public road? It should only be a for a few days and the neighbours are fine with it (They're all old and we get on very well). I just don't want any hassle from the Police... Maybe I'm over-worrying...
-
That wasn't what I suggesting mate, please keep the updates coming in this thread. It's something that almost all of us will never get to experience first hand and really interesting to see how things work at the other end of the price scale

Funny how Ferrari call those pictures 'final stages', for most of us that's a 'just started' car! Post a video when you get it eh Far? No reason teasing like this without some final vids
