  1. The aviation industry use cherry rivets mainly these days which I have to say are pretty good rivets. Avdels are good but you have to mill them down. Solids are the best bet but like you said you need to get to the back of them to react them and you need a sensible gun (not a frickin air hammer) to blat em down properly.   5. I took the car down to Dude one weekend as it was over-boosting and he rode behind me and his words were "that's not shy is it?" It was a bloody quick TT when I sold it. Gruggs dessimated it and it ended up as a rolling shell for sale very recently in a controversial thread which was a shame really. Anyways thread hijack over lol
  6. I stuck a BRC multi-point on my TT aristo and it used almost the same as it did petrol. The PITA was finding anywhere that sold gas. Within a month all 3 places that did gas near me either pump went U/S, pump got crashed into (made it U/S), or the garage closed for re-furb. Not so economical if you've gotta do a 40 mile round trip to fill up. It cost me £1800 to have installed and after 18 months I didn't do enough miles to see my cash back. Would I have another LPG motor? Yes I would but I'd never pay out the money to do it myself again though.

After reading all of this I am actually quite surprised not to have seen you post that the gearbox wasn't bolted on right or will that emerge when they do the clutch lol Looks like they did the engine rapid fit stylee, hoist it up and drop it in from the ceiling wonder what got dinked on the bottom of the engine when it was dropped in? Just goes to show you though you really are entering the lottery when you get an unknown supplied engine bodged into a car like that.
  9. I don't see what is loading the engine up? You can idle and rev it with that setup but not load it. What does an engine dyno look like? My supe was hub dyno'd and read out 394 bhp but at bpu the figures must have had a fudge factor added to give estimated flywheel power, a few weeks later it read out 375 on a rolling road.
  10. I had a rover 220 sdi I bought it with 130k on it and that wasn't a slow old beater. I did 40k miles without even spending on an oil change and sold it for what I paid for it £400. The bloke I sold it to did another £20k miles in it then sold it for £300, the bloke that bought it from him did 15k miles just scrapped it and got his £300 back and that was after crashing it lol. Get the right beater and put the supra on a limited mileage policy as a second car with lynbrook, A-Plan or I think even sky do a second car policy now as well. I currently run a 2.3 V5 golf that gets me 45 mpg on a really frugal run but 35 mpg most days. Its a 2002 plate and cost me the princely sum of £1200. Its got poke as well when I want it. The easiest thing in the world to do is panic, sell the supra and end up regretting it for years.
  11. Sheesh if Jamie can't or won't afford to run a 1000bhp beast then what hope do us mere mortals have? I would have bankrupted myself to keep my do-luck aristo had I of lived somewhere I could drive it properly. Now I find myself very comfortable in hot hatches which trust me shocks me more than you lot. If you have the right driving conditions, and have the time to dedicate to actually driving the car then 700 bhp is worth having. If not get a car that looks the part and brag til your pants are full!

  15. I've had rafts of diesels and they do save alot of dosh. They have a downside and that is on a whole they cost so much more to buy second hand which if you are paying on any kind of finance is counter productive. Diesel is more expensive than petrol by quite a bit. Modern petrols if driven right can return good mpg. I recently bought a 2002 V5 golf for £1200 and it gave me 48.3 mpg last week on my way to work on super unleaded!! I usually get 39-42 mpg out of it, yeah this is mostly 40 limit driving but I got a mad on the other day and 12 miles of 3 figure speeds still returned me 28 mpg. Have you tried a bit of hyper miling and driving this car like it was a diesel? You'd be quite shocked at the difference it makes. Could make keeping this car an option for sure.

  17. MMM piss taking aside chaps, that car will fetch decent money in France or Germany, or for that matter in Holland. Its an aerotop, its correct hand drive which means its the euro spec model, and they go for silly money abroad. Its only the j-spec/UK spec that's 10 a penny so worthless!!

  19. Thing is boys and girls you are all picking the wrong fights, and ultimately its why N/A's lose. On a non NSL road or motorway you are not gonna get anywhere near any of the modern small cars that are geared and made to handle in town traffic. Even a half reasonable family car these days including diesels will with a determined individual at the wheel beat most supra's. A supra has alot of width to deal with, a lot of weight to deal with, and not the best low speed handling in the world to deal with, all of these things a hot hatch don't have to worry about. Add a portion of knobendishness to the driver of said hatch and you won't win. I currently drive a pitiful 170 bhp Vr5 golf as the roads around my way make owning a GT touring car a waste of time and for that matter wing mirrors. I guarantee you that you wouldn't shake me from the back of any supra on my commute to work and if I was in front a supra would properly struggle to keep up. I've had an NA manual and that wasn't really any more competent than the auto, in fact the auto was easier to drive fast than the manual, the only thing I found it did better was wheel spinning from a standstill, and that's only any use if you like buying tyres.

  21. How did you come by this motor? I thought I remembered it heading off abroad like all the nice cars that come up for sale here do?
  22. MMMM from memory the pins that go into the board are 90 degree bent. If you can wiggle them and they have any movement in them and you can physically see the pins move around in the board then that is a dry joint. Dry joints on a whole are a sort of darkish grey colour and not a shinier silver colour. Its very hard to describe really. Basically though if you look at the board and you can see that the area around where the metal bars that feed the bulbs go into the board is not connected by the solder to the board that is your problem.
