  1. They are very similar but aimed at different markets. I used to have a Soarer 4.0 LTD with all the toys. My brother has it now. There are many aspects of the cars that are the same but far more diverse than the Rover/MG offerings which are just badges stuck on. Before you ask, I love both the Supra and Soarer and wish I had space for one of each, or maybe more!
  2. Thanks guys. I'll check up on the Derby one too and let you know how it goes. I used to go to Protech in Nailsea when I was working down in Bristol but that's a bit far to go for a service now! Protech were good though, and cheap.
  3. Thanks Slick, they're not far from me I'll give them a call. I know a lot of these dealers can be funny about working on imports, I notice you have a UK car. Still, one way to find out.
  4. Hi all. Could anyone reccomend a good garage for a service in the Nottingham area? My baby is due some attention in the near future. Thanks
  5. Soz, must read the thread better next time. Optimax is advertised to be better in non-turbos too but if there's no performance increase and no better economy, why bother?
  6. I get better MPG with Optimax over regular 95 octane fuel which is measurable. As for performance, it FEELS better with Optimax but I haven't measured the difference. Probably very small but it all helps. The biggest problem I have is deadness from idle which isn't affected by fuel type. Bloody turbos.
  7. Umm, So it won't go any faster but it'll sound like it does. Think I'll save my money. Is it the same story with an exhaust? No performance but lots of noise?
  8. Has anyone here had this system fitted to their car? What do you think of it and is this the best one? TDI Powertuning quote £245 plus fitting which sounds OK. Their page mentions 49BHP gain, I presume this is if fitted in conjunction with a proper exhaust which already gives 37BHP therefore a net increase of 12BHP for the intake alone. Looking to reduce turbo lag and increase acceleration of course.
  9. Must admit that I spend most of the time in D and don't use the TIP much. I like the effect of the box in TIP however and should use it more. It's easy to get cought in the wrong gear with a turbo car and as good as the auto box is, there are times that the delay of kick-down plus turbo lag is not desirable. One thing I'd change are the bottons. They're a little fiddly, paddles would probably be better.
  10. What about a soldering iron? This would give a more localised heat on the screw but would it get hot enough? Could save potential damage to paint and trim.
  11. I asked about limited mileage but they (Pivilege) said I couldn't have limited AND protected NCD! They couldn't give an adequate answer why not. "we don't do that"
  12. They might be experiencing technical difficulties as I've tried to mod my quote to see how much the premium goes up for a new intake and exhaust. The reply keeps coming back that they are unable to process my request now. Elephant were cheap for me but the service isn't as good as Pivilege so far.
  13. They (the sales people) ask the questions in the wrong order. If they asked about the car first, they could cut down on all the other shit. Why bother asking name, postcode, NCD, dog's collar size etc. if they then go (and we've all heard it) SORRY, WE DON'T DO THOSE CARS!!!
  14. I think you forgot to say "quote me happy" I'm with NUD for house insurance and they gave me a crap quote. I said is this cos I did't say "quote me happy"? She laughed and re-calculated and came back with a low quote! Very suspicious.

    Fancyplates

Update. Incase anyone was still in two minds about fancyplates I can confirm a first class service. Ordered on Friday, delivered on Monday. 45 mins @ DVLA and half an hour with a drill and all is tickety boo. Little Toyota logo and Supra logo too.
  16. Fear not Neil111, I briefly had a Jaguar XJ8 4.0 before getting the Supra (hated it by the way) and I've found the Supra to be just as quiet as the Jag on most road surfaces. There is more road noise on poor (concrete) surfaces but less wind and engine noise than at all times. It also has more somfrtable seats, a better stereo, better brakes, steering. Goes on ad-nausium.
  17. I'm impressed. When I called Adrian Flux they struggled to get under £1000 and mines got no mods at all. Mine is Jap but that can't be the reason surely?
  18. Good quality accessories are fine e.g. caps and mugs etc. but I think much more and you're looking at "get a life". I have a friend who had a Jag (he now has two) and he never wore anything else appart from Jaguar branded clothing. He's a nice guy but he looked a bit of an arse standing in the pub looking like part of the Jaguar F1 racing team.

    Fancyplates

Ordered mine last week and looking forward to getting them. Should be mostly road legal as I didn't go for scrolly text or out. Then it's off to DVLA to get the tax and MOT switched.
  20. Drag force = C*D*A*(V squared)/2 C=drag coefficient D=Air density A=object area V=air velocity normal to surface D, A & V are going to be pretty constant so if the drag coefficient increaces by 10% then I think it's fair to assume that the force holding the car back will also increace by 10%. So to try and answer the orriginal Question, yes. Drag coefficient doubles, drag doubles.
  21. I love Elephants!!! :) My new favourite animal and you know why? £432, that's why Liverpool-Victoria wouldn't quote, nor would AA (just AAsk someone else) Adrain flux couldn't get under a grand Priviledge (my current insurer) was £736.
  22. Did you take out both cats or just the second one? I believe that removing the second cat will only add about 10BHP which is not significant. The benefit should be felt on throttle response though.
  23. Just had my renewal notice from Privilege at 740 squid. Are Admeral good then? I will also try Adrian Flux and Liverpool Victoria
  24. Can anyone here give me the part numbers for the boot rubbers? Did they go through a redesign to help prevent the "chirping" in the first place? I've got a '97 and it's started squeaking. ta very much
  25. Good result Steve. I guess you're pleased. Next step... mods!
