Wouldn't an air leak cause it to run rich rather than lean? I had something similar happen on a previous Supra and it turned out to be a dud Bosch fuel pump, which turned out to be an easy fix. Therefore, my immediate hunch would be to check the fuelling system; fuel pump, fuel lines, fuel filter and injectors for issues then move on to the electrical side of the fuelling system. I.e. check the wires to the fuel pump for unexpected voltage drops and check the wiring loom going to the ECU for damage or kinks in the wires, as I have previously experienced issues arising from the same, albeit on aftermarket ECUs and harnesses but still worth a check...

I don't think the additional head modifications would have made such a substantial difference in spool... also going from a Greddy plenum to a Hypertune plenum wouldn't have a substantial effect like going going from a stock intake to an aftermarket one. As for the additional boost, that would not have the effect of aiding spool. Having said that, I agree with the notion that the test isn't 100% controlled but it does at least give us a rough idea as to the advantages the VVTI system has over the non-VVTI.

Is having a spare set of wheels for storage not an option, providing that is your intention, of course?

That's what had initially led me to suspect that they were different. However, I am now led to believe they're in fact interchangeable?

Aside from the pricing discrepancy, they are fundamentally the same part?

Bump... willing to consider paint shops within an hour's drive from London.

How old is it? I only watched the episode with the Supra... Poor chap ended up with no where for his roof to go.

Whilst browsing Prime, I came across a poorly rated programme by the name of "Fine Tuned", it appeared to be a 'pimp my ride' type show and unfortunately, the second episode features a Toyota Supra... ouch.

As you say, it was because the ECUs in the past were unable to control the VVTI system due to a lack of outputs on the actual ECUs. Now, we have the likes of Syvecs which can control the movements of the entire solar system, let alone our VVTI cars! Great comparison video OP, thank you for sharing!

Does the car have an immobiliser fitted? If so, could that be playing up?

I know it's probably something you've already done but have you checked the relays in the fuse box?

Have you considered renting a garage or storage unit? There are some excellent short term deals around at the moment.
