Mine does this alot... not all the time, but if it gets into a serious or continued spin then it stays on. I have always put it doen to the standard traction control issues. I fugured the best was around it was to save my penies for RLTC ;-)

I have checked the exhaust mountings and they are all solid and fine. I am popping down to see the above mentioned garage for a quick guestimate as to any problems. So fingers crossed.

Fantastic, I will give them a try. My thoughts (due to noise and reduced performance) Propshaft bearings Brakes binding Rear Diff

My Sup is having some problems and it is starting to really worry me. The two main symptoms are as follows. 1> Increased driving noise, especially under high revs, accelleration. I first thought this was when the car was going a bit rapidly that the exhaust what vibrating on the underside somewhere or the rear bumper. After much chcking I am 95% sure it insnt. This is now getting more and I can feel a bit of vibration through the body... 2> Performance.... I am still getting full boost, and the turbos are noticably cutting in and you can feel them doing their job but in my opinion, and it may just be paranoya. It is not as lively as it used to be. The second turbo especially doesnt give as much kick as I remember and at low revs the car feels heavy. I am not smoking and as mentioned both turbos are getting to the boost that they have always reached (9psi on 1st, 14psi on 2nd). So I have two questions. Firstly any ideas.... Secondly, on the offchance that it is purely my imagination where is there a good place in the Sussex area that I can take the ol girl to an say, there are a few things niggling me, can you see what you think and give it a check over..... Before anyone suggests my local Toyota dealer then I suggest trying them personally. They generally ill not even look at my car let alone make a diagonosis. They have import phobia. Any help is apprechiated as each and every drive is depressing me now with the thought that she is slowly dieing.

That sounds logical, and would probably explain why it just started working again after i went around opening and closing the doors. Many Thanks

I was driving along today and the doors sounded like they started locking, unlocking, over and over again (although they werent. they were actally staying open all the time but trying to lock etc. Alarm seamed to be workign fine, started, ran , stopped, went off etc but the doors didnt lock. checked everything that i could think of but to no avail, I was also unable to lock the car via any means.. They about 30 minutes after it started, it stopped. It is now back to normal. Apart from being taken over by a spirt from another plane of existence, has anyone got any ideas. I actually ended up going to Toyota while it was doing it but they wouldn't look at it and said it is probably going to need a whole new lock assembly on one of the doors, £160 plus labour and VAT and a 2 week wait while they get the parts. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

All sorted now. Many Thanks

I am after 2 cans of ATF Type 4 Trannie Fluid. The Black can from Toyota with Red Writing (4L) (£29) has now been discontinued and replaced by a 5L plastic can for £45. Not only is this a huge price increase but they are also out of stock. I need two more cans before I can do my full flush, if there are any out there I will be please to purchase them off you. New part number is aparently 08886-82025 Thanks

That was my very first attempt of power braking... went a bit too high on the revs and left 5 meters of rubber. Looked good on camera though

If I am about to spend £150 of ATF Type IV fluid to do a full transmission change then its worth asking the question. I know that I can get this from Lexus and Toyota (with a lot of explaining) is there any other places such as Parts centers etc that can supply this and save me a few £££?

Well I am now very wet after sitting in a puddle in the pooring rain. but I have done it. I will do another one soon ie the weekend unless someone says to leave it longer (waits for comments). This I should hope will at least help until...... Taking Dude's advice I plan a full flush in the next few weeks (depending on how long it takes to get the 16l of ATF. I have had another search around and the following method is mentioned that seams like a good plan. Unless once again someone either has a better idea or screams for me to stop as I am about to blow the auto box... I await the comments...... http://www.bestsyntheticoil.com/amsoil/torqueconverter.shtml

Thanks for that. I phoned 4 different Toyota dealers and was presented with a number of options and none of them found the right one.. even with the correct part number!!!! I even got as far as going to one that said that the part number had changed and they had the correct stuff. When I got there the presented me we a white can of ATF Type T but everything else was in Japanese. The only thing that I could back out was the number 3. So I decided not. Frustrated I phoned my local Lexus garage who, despite denying that they have every had anything to do with the Supras, said oh you need Type 4 come and get it. First time, no hastle whatsoever. To top it all when I got their their system has "lost" the code for the 4liter tin so he could only charge me the 1 litre price. Bargin! So now it is time to lie under the car in a puddle!

I have been searching around the forum and think I know what I need but a> want to double check, and b> have a couple of questions. For note 93 J-spec TT with Auto box My trannie fluid is nicely cooked (brown and smelly) so time to change. I am happy to do a few fequent plug drain and top ups to be on the safe side. So basically.... 1> Jack the car up on axle stands and remove plug from the bottom of the transmission and let it drain (expecting about 2 litres. 2> Replace plug and pour new fluid in through the dipstick hole?!? of about the same amount as was removed (on the assumption the levels were correct to begin. 3> Check level doing the every gear jiggle thing and with engine running. 4> Check again in a day or so. Fluid to use is ATF T Type IV. On the assumption that is all correct and I am sure I will be corrected if not, where on earth do I get the transmission fluid. I have been to Toyota who say that they only have it in huge drums and they would have to do the work (2 garages), Halfords stock Dextron II and III and ATF DII, also a few Castrol ones that I didnt remeber the details and Motorworld stock some other brand that say ATF-Q ATF-G. Also do I need a special tool to get the drain plug out? And finally...... I want to change the diff oil also but know very little about that. I assume it also have a drain plug but where does it go in and what oil (and again where do I get that from). Thanks in advance.

Thanks for this, I have learnt a lot and yes my reference was to the lack of options for upgrade discs of J-spec size. Last time I spoke to Toyota they were able to get standard replacement discs with no problems. (about a week wait)
-
After doing a lot of searching I was told that it is near impossble to get aftermarket replacement brake discs for the J spec (standard size). I have however stumbled across a new set that is being released in the next few weeks. They are EBC and are going for about £150 inc VAT for the pair and I believe they are drilled and grooved although no-one is really sure until the first batch are shipped. I have a set on order and will let you know if its worth the money

Thanks for the help so far.. Re the Carbon Fiber Dash.... I got it about 2 months ago and installed it myself.. It cost £250 inc VAT. I am pretty happy with it although there are a few points where it does not fit 100%. I will try and dig out the photos I took at installation but they are about 4mb each so need to shrink them a bit. The advantage of this dash over others that I have seen is that it covers the dash, the relevant bits of the center console and the sloped bits of the door handle. so it looks more complete than just an after market jobby. The main winge that I would say is that they said no glueing required but I have found that I had to remove several sections and glue it myself as it started to lift off in hot weather.

The Supe drive fine under normal conditions but this morning for the 3rd time in the last 3 weeks when I have hit kickdown, to leave some wannabe standing, the following happens. it drops a gear, the revs shoot up and i do not accellerate. If I take my foot off the power a bit it will go back into the previous gear and almost with a jolt you feel the power engage again. This is no a common thing, and most of the time it is fine, everything engages and i am not seen for dust but other times i a left rolling along hammering the revs. Any ideas... my first thought is clutch on the way out but there is no other obvious sings of slipping and it certainly does not do it all the time....

TBH I'm a big advocate of leaving the odo reading in km. Much less confusing and probably less likely to make a prospective buyer suspicious when you resell. [/b] True and I agree but as it has the km reading from before it is well over 100,000 and it is now ticking up in miles, (where is should be well down in double figures for miles I fear it will take explaining of why my paperwork says that it has been converted for miles and why I am saying that it is km, all they have to do is take it for a quick test drive and they could tell that it is adding miles. Which could result in.. for example, if they convinced themselves it was miles and not km then they might see 130,000 then instead of 85,000. suddenly my car is worth the same as push bike as it is showing 45,000 extra miles.
-
In the Import process they did a great job of changing everything so it shows MPH amd the trip and ODO tickup in miles hower they have not changed the reading which is obviously will look high if people think it is miles. How can I get it to read the correct milage, instead of the correct km? Thanks in advance
