  1. Is this full Budget? It also changes how it acts with a different manifold, so is this included wjth your £1800? Im guess ur wanting brand new aswell? Andy
  2. First question is whats your budget. This can vary what turbo choice you go for
  3. You are right. They probably arnt that difficult to make. The synchros are already being replicated and reproduced by synchrotech. To make the gears though, you want a brand new set, which have no wear so you know the size and tolerance. Making some off Second hand gears could be a recipe for a noisy box. I suppose its the cost and time to make say ‘50 Units’. How many people would be willing to buy them? And i suppose if a 1000 of each gear was made. The cost would be less but chances of people wanting them is slim now that other gearbox’s are more on offer. I have stripped mine now and everything seems to be bang on bar a small bit of wear on the 4th gear synchro which is mounted to the 4th gear itself.
  4. Morning gents, So as a quick update to put everyone in the frame- I have stripped my v160 box and i am checking my gears for wear (mainly synchro teeth). I have never dealt with synchro teeth before so i am not fully sure of whats ‘absolutley fine’ or ‘shagged’. Some of the teeth show what i would class as zero wear, yet the odd one seems to have slight wear. The only time i drove the car with this gearbox was home from when the car was purchased. (30 miles or so). It didnt seem amazingly smooth but there were no noises. Just seemed a bit agricultural and very precise. (If that makes sense) Also as a side note, does anyone have a pic of a B series (updated) v160 synchros. Here is a few pics of my synchro teeth. Please feel free to comment. (Gearbox has done 130k miles) The 3rd and 4th pics are the suspect gear / synchro which i am slightly worried about being worn.
  5. Do you have any pics? Also what inner diameter is the pipe? Cheers
  6. Looks like it has been done after it left the factory. Its too non-uniform to be done oem. It has stamps on the shaft from when it was made with what looks like a batch code etc. Will have been done before it was hardened.
  7. Is anyone aware of a gearbox refurbisher that scribes their initials onto the shafts in the gearbox? Mine has R.M scribed into the shaft with the number 586. Any one know what this is all about? Cheers Andy
  8. Marty, look at that. All the part numbers to go. Cheers matey! Will deffos be useful!
  9. I would rather strip it and find out that most of it is ok than leave it and find out its a hand grenade in a few months time. So far, everything looks pristine. Believe it or not, the oil which came out looked like it had just been poured out of the bottle, it was that clear. The consumable parts (seals, bearings etc) at a push can be re-manufactured. Its just how much you are willing to pay. I knew that the gears are unsourceable; so if there was an issue, i would have just split the box for spares.
  10. Evening all, I have started to strip down my v160 gearbox so that it can all be checked and worn parts replaced. Does anyone know of a full parts list for the gearbox? I have removed an internal seal which seems to be a special made seal. Nothing like i have seen before. Has anyone else had their v160 or v161 apart and managed to source this seal? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks Andy
  11. As much as i agree with you. The whole car is getting a restoration so it seems daft to leave the gearbox alone. Its 27 years old and has done over 100k miles, so its more preventative maintenance while everything is already in bits.
  12. Been in touch and he says that he doesnt have any and doesnt currently know where to source them
  13. Morning gents, I am stripping my v160 gearbox to check everything is ok, but i am also wanting to replace the synchros as a matter of course. Does anyone have any experience with synchro tech synchros. They do different grades, bronze/brass, steel/bronze, carbon, steel/carbon. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Andy
  14. Hey guys, Thanks for the replies. I was actually searching some more last night and came across this video on youtube. They test around a dozen coils. Definitely worth a watch to anyone interested! I like the idea of rhe r35 coils, but again its around £550 for the set including mounting brackets. Ill wait to see if anyone else has opinions on any of these coil setups.
  15. Hey guys, Ive been searching on here for comparisons or answers to the question. If you were to upgrade your coil packs from stock. Which ones would you use and why. I know the standard one are rated highly and will fulfil my power goals, i just dont want the extra wiring. My current situation is: I am going standalone ecu and i am replacing the stock engine bay harness. Because it is getting re-wired, i want to go to direct wiring from the ecu rather than the stock setup. There are a few options i have seen : Ign1a coils Ls1 (lq9) coils Audi r8 coils Does anyone have any experience with any of these setups? Or any others? Any info would be greatly appreciated. TIA! Andy
  16. Its worth checking with a bore mic to see if it has crushed the bore in. If it has then it all depends on by how much. Also if it looks to have any fracture marks then thats a sign that its done for
  17. Are you a man or mouse? [emoji57] [emoji1320]
  18. I took the full engine out on axle stands. The problem with just doing the auto box would be the weight and lifting it back up / aligning it. You would need the clearance height of the box plus maybe another 100-200mm for wiggle room. So the car would need a decent height. Probably near truck axle stand size
  19. Haahah [emoji23][emoji23] those US ones are a different breed. Must be the air over there
  20. Just to throw some fuel to the fire [emoji23]
