280bhp is the Japan Manufacturers gentlemans agreement that all their sports cars are 280bhp. You will find the Jspecs once dynoed are similar power to the uk equivalent and perform equally aswell.

Hello Tourniquet I dont think the TA would get the same training under any circumstance due to the time required, when it is done in drib and drabs, it get watered down and is not as intense. When I was serving the TA were seen as part time and were not used really for operational tours or if they were, were more admin and not frontline. I personally think the whole of the forces is being watered down, i feel this happened when they got rid of the individual depots. For my last 18 months I was a PTI in 2 Para, we use to run reception cadres for the guys that had just passed out. I was shocked how poor these were. I feel the MOD have applied pressure to let guys pass out who are not as good as they should be. With the current climate of regular guys leaving the forces and the MOD under pressure to recruit, i can only see this problem getting worse, regular soldiers who are not really up for the task and TA soldiers who almost certaintly are not. When i was serving 1989 - 1995, Toms had done usually done 5 or 6 years to get their first stripe and most full screws had served for 10 - 12 years. Correct me if i am wrong but I heard that alot of the soldiers today are at full screw/Sargent by 6 years. As for the 4 Para guys doing a different or less difficult P Company that the guys from the regualr battalion, I cant comment. When I did P Company it was 10 events over 5 days based in Aldershot and Brecon. However P Company was the end result, if you got that far, the majority could/should pass. It was the 6 months hard training leading up to P Company that was the real test. You had to contend through injuries from the persistent hard training, not being good enough in weapon drills/field craft etc, being back squadded, failing training exercises such as Advanced Wales. It was all of this that made the Parachute Regiment soldier elite, not just doing P Company Hope this helps mate

DaveSupTT As the originator of the post, dont be put off by joining the TA by mine or others comments mate. Likewise dont get caught up in all that macho rubbish about "You should deploy" if asked to either. Im my experience a TA soldier is not as well trained as a regular soldier and do not put yourself at risk. This is the regs job and I think it is a sad state of affairs for the goverment to be asking part timers to go to war. They should make the regular job more attractive, look after the regulars better and maybe they would'nt be leaving in their droves. With the current goverment, I would expect conscription next for all those 18 year olds who dont get the required grades for university.

Tourniquet - dont get me wrong mate, I applaud all the servicemen and woman, TA or regulars and I say if you want to join go ahead and join the TA. However the TA guys need to understand there is a big difference between the TA routine and the regs routine. My concern is that due to the goverment we will find a vast amount of servicemen serving in hostile environments who are not adequately trained. They already have enough to worry about with working many hours with out adequate sleep and insufficient equipment. When I was serving completing operational tours I needed to know that all the guys around me had done what i had done and i could rely on them through thick and thin. Not sure I could feel like this about a TA guy, i would have my reservations. He would need to prove himself but not sure being thrown in to a hostal environment is the best place to learn when lives are at risk, no room for error. In the regs you proff yourself through countless training exercises within your battalion. If you aint up to scatch, the other blokes in your platoon soon let you know and you either sort yourself out or you get moved. This method ensures the blokes you are with are on the top of their game, well this how it was in Para Reg.

sold mate, this is the one you sold to me - sorry

sorry folks - sold

To clarify, like I said some TA guys are good but the majority are well below standard. an example of the good are Chris Ryan (Bravo 2 Zero patrol member, and the one that got away) he was not a regular soldier he was TA, 23 SAS but passed regular selection and joined 22 - he was good. TA in the army for me is the goverment conning us, they are not not doing enough by looking after, offring good pay etc to attract men and woman into the forces. The TA are the same as specials and the PCSO, thay have a role but it is limited and if you were to ask the regulars, in my experience they would rather not serve alongside them.

I have just watched the P company video, funny thing, I served with a couple of the instructors back in the 90's. When I left the forces I was approached by the TA. In my experience as a regular soldier, the TA that we would get attached were not up to the task and these had passed P company and were considered well trained by TA standards. Dont get me wrong some were good and were asked to transfer into a regaular battalion but the most were very poor and I would of rather they were not with us. To be a good soldier you have to live it 24/7 not saturday and sundays. Anybody who wants to join the TA, ask yourself why? If you want a life in the forces, commit and join the regulars, if you want a hobby, buy a supra and mod it. For me the forces is not a hobby, treat it as such as you will come severly unstuck.

payent sent Rob, Cheers

Hi Guys The supplier has accepted that the turbo they sent me was wrong and has agreed to send me the correct turbo at no cost to myself. The original question was due to my gt67 not making anywhere near the power quoted or anything near to what power other guys are making on similar turbos. This raised my suspicion that the turbo was not the correct one. This has later been proven and now the issue is being resolved.
-
Hello mate, difficult to know if it is the wrong turbo or if there was just a problem with the turbo as they do not stamp them with any specs. The specialists said the A/R did not look big enough. I will compare them once I receive the new turbo. This should be here by the end of next week. I am hoping I have no more problems, really want to drive the car. I refuse to drive it with the existing turbo even though it is at 500bhp. I know it seems weird but driving it like that would only spoil the end project. Once the car is at the spec/power I planned then I will drive it.

sold pending payment

Hello mate Yes the problem definitly lies with the turbo, the manufacturer has said they will send the correct turbo over so hopefully there should be no further problems. I am awaiting the delivery of the turbo and as it has been 10 days I am hoping the garage should be receiving this very soon. Fitting and total remap again and then the car should be as it was meant to be. It is the little things like this that make you question whether big projects are worth it. Hopefully when I drive the car, the sensation will remove that doubt. I will keep you posted mate on the outcomes.

PRICE REDUCED TO £30 + P&P Hi Everyone I have a SAGA V5 EGT Gauge for sale, link to webpage below http://www.autodials.co.uk/ I purchased this from a member on here in January 08 for £70 + P&P and have never fitted it to my car. I am looking to go with Defi gauges now so this unit is for sale. Conditon is very good, the only thing missing is the Olive that is a part of the Sensor Probe fixing screw. The previous owner did not get this when he purchased the gauge but advised me that these can be purchased in most places but he used a circlip to secure the probe. Gauge lights up mainly white with the neddle being white, it has playback, record and warning features. Open for offers but looking in the region of £50 + P&P - Photos attached

Yes mate but I think we have exhausted all options, the turbo provided is not producing the power, all other possible causes have been dismissed, no leaks or problems, car has been mapped by an expert. The turbo has been run at 2 bar and the power is as stated, 180bhp off of the quoted figure. Simiular turbos to the one I should of got are making 580 - 600bhp at the flywheel at 1.4bar. The turbo i have is making no where near that.
-
Hi Wez I dont have the graphs as they are still with the Leon. The torque figure was high. The charge temperatures were very high so the turbo was working flat out at 2bar. The car made no more power at 2bar than it did at 1.4bar. This bhp fact, all the other possible causes being investigated and dismissed and the the specialists opinion have left us with no other option than the turbo is in correct. As stated the manufacturer of this well know turbo provider states 660 - 680RWHP at 32psi. We are a million miles from this. The problem is and can now only be the turbo, we were suppied the wrong turbo.
-
Hi dandan Here are some pictures of the turbo I have, the company do not stamp their turbos as they like to keep the spec under wraps. Turbo technics looked at the turbo and siad it would only be good for about 550bhp tops. We had it dynoed at 2 bar and only made 512bhp at the flywheel. The specs of the turbo that I know are as follows A/R 0.70 Compressor wheel - 67mm Th egut said the turbo was a similar spec to a GT 35/62 and would make 550bhp tops The specialists said the exhaust housing ws way to small and the turbo was choking - the sage continued, some one is at fault and it aint me, hopefully the parties involved will resolve this so i can get my car on the road.
