I have been reading the Forum and have noticed that members check the Turbo pipes etc when they get a drop of boost pressure. As this seems quite a regular occurence, I was hoping that someone can give me some advice to where exactly these pipes are situated so i can check them. I am not experiencing any problems but it would be good to know for future reference. If anyone has a picture they can post that would be great so there is no confusion

On the NZ Site, it recommends 40psi all round, it says this is better for even tyre wear. Recommended psi of 36 supposely wears the middle of the tyre out before the edges. I am running about 38psi all round on 19's, I thought this would be a happy medium, a little more air to help protect the wheels due to low profile tyres and terrible road conditions. What do the Government spend our Road Tax on, definitely not the roads, expensive parties (meetings they call them) and refurbs for the Houses of Parlament. I'm not bitter though!

Thanks everyone for the info, nothing to worry about then, great name, charcoal cannister. Some engineer was probably paid loads of money for coming up with that name. Why could'nt I think of something like that!

Hi everyone I am hoping that someone can inform me to what this is. I will try my best to describe it as best I can. If you standing facing the engine bay, on the right hand side (Passengers side) at the back of the engine bay. There is a black box with 3 hoses coming off it. The box is at the very back of the engine bay passed the Power Steering Tank and Trans Fluid dip sticksituated on the extreme right hand side (As you face the engine bay) What is this and what does it do. On occasions I have heard what sounds like water bubbling coming from this box. Is this meant to happen? Thanks for the help

Cant remember, what time is everyone meeting at South Mimms this saturday. I think it was 10am, is this correct?

Hello Evanshaw This happened to my J-Spec aswell, I think it is to do with the speed sensors aswell as cheap speedo conversions etc when they arrive in the uk. I contacted Thor Racing and Pete fitted one of his DSC Units, since then I have had no problems, I suggest you give him a bell he is based in Warwick. Cheers

Matt Unfortunately I did'nt remove the Active Spoiler and the person who did has gone away and cant be reached. I will try and explain the problem again. The active spoiler is attached to the car by 3 brackets that follow the shape of the bumper. However I am unsure if these brackets attach to the car first and then the spoiler to these or if the spoiler is attached directly to the car first and these brackets sit behind the lip of the spoiler so the bolts go through the brackets then the spoiler or if it is through the spoiler first then the brackets. With regards to th indicators, yes at the moment I have the original orange ones but these will go shortly, who provides these, my car is a 1994 J-Spec. Anyway when you remove the headlamp on the drivers side, you cannot gain access to the indicator itself as it is enclosed in a black shroud that is attached to the intercooler that directs cold air i Suppose. Before I put the mesh in to change the bulbs I would of took the indicator off by going through the ducting at he front I think. Is this right or wrong? Should I remove the original black plastic ducting that is attached to the SMIC and what the bumper (Indicator ducting) fits into. Cheers

I have just removed my front bumper to fit some mesh to the Bumper etc. Unfortunately a friend of mine removed the Active Spoiler and I just want to confirm that I put it back on correctly. I would be grateful if anyone can confirm that the method below is correct. * The fixing brackets for the spoiler fit to the underside of the car with the hinged side going against the fitting. * The active spoiler then fits against these barackets, the bolt then goes through the spoiler into the bracket and then into the underneath of the car. The reason why i think this is not right as I can now see a bit of the brackets when looking at the front of the car (spoiler being down) I was unsure if the fixing brackets go in the lip of the spoiler and then attach to the car going through the bracket first, then the spoiler, then into the car. This way the fixing bracket is hidden as it sits behind the top lip of the spoiler. Unfortunately I cant remember exactly how it came off so advice is needed. On a separate note when i fitted the mesh to the opening of the front spoiler that leads to the SMIC, I have noticed that I now cant gain access to the indicator if I need to change the bulb. Should I of removed the the black shroud that sits in the front of th intercooler or do I just cut the top of the shroud away to create an opening leading to the indicator. Thanks, The problem is when doing anything for the first time you have to learn as you go and often have to learn the hardway. I am hoping that I hav'ent screwed upo to bad as I dont fancy having to take the front bumper off again to rectify the problems if I have one.

John Thanks for the info, i will have to see if the missus and the kids fancy a day out. With regards to meeting at South Mimms, when we leave there are we going up or down the junctions to get to the M23. The reason why I ask is that I am unsure if I can gain access to the other side of the m25 when I turn into South Mimms. I will be coming from junction 21 of the M25 and I believe South Mimms is Junc 23. Depending on the route we are taking or if I can gain access to the other side of the M25 from Soth Mimms, it wont be a problem. Otherwise I may have to go upto Junction 24 and turn around. I hope you get the jist of what I am trying to say. Thanks

Carlos Refernce the air bag light, I believe this has to be reset separately. When I had my dash removed I had the same problem with the air bag light staying on. The way to fix it is put some wire down the diagnostic port in the engine bay (near to the oil measurig stick) I am not exactly sure how this reset it but this is what Leon from JPS did and it reset the air bag. Hope this helps, for more advice I would email Pete Betts at Thor as he knows his stuff. I believe to avoid this, dont tturn the ignition on when the front dash is off. Hope this helps

Reference the Bolney Meet on the 24th April. Is it a family friendly zone or is it a case of leave the missus and kids at home. To keep her sweet i thought it would be a good idaea to include her as she does tolerate my excessive spending on the Soop. The kids might enjoy aswell but I was unsure if kids could go and it was safe to do so. On a separate note, I live in Northampton, is anyone meeting up on the way so we can get a bit of a convoy going down I have never been before but I take it, it is the Bolney near Crawley. My route will be M1, M25, M23, does anyone fancy meeting up on the way or maybe we could arrange a mass meet up before we head down

I will be contacting epsdesign reference the aluminium mesh. Thanks for the info, is it fairly striaght forward to fit?
-
Terry Just out of interest, the free area I suppose applies to the size of the holes in the mesh. In your opinion what would be the minimum size that the holes could be without effecting the cooling?
-
Cheers for the advice Terry I live in the Northampton area, you dont know any suppliers around this way or anywhere that can supply this. cheers
-
Terry What do you mean by Free area of Mesh. I suppose your the man to ask reference meshing up the front taking into account your history in modding supras. It should'nt have any adverse effects on air flow to the radiator and Intercooler should it. I was hoping that the mesh would also help protect these from stones etc whilst also looking a bit better. Do you agree?
-
Hi everyone I was thinking about put some mesh in my front bumper to cover the large holes etc. I have a CW SMIC instead of a FMIC so I thought this would brighten up the front abit. However by doing this would I be noticeably restricting the airflow to the Radiator and the intercooler. Please give me some advice on this. Many thanks

What intercooler fits without removing the active spoiler?
Vaughany replied to Andrew's topic in mkiv Technical
Andrew, go for the Chris Wilson SMIC, I have just had mine fitted, I will be speaking to Chris ref water injection aswell in the near future -
Paul, you are obviously in favour of the units, so does a boost controller allow the turbos to work more effectively creating more and holding the boost throughout the gear change. For example, if my supe was running 1.2 bar without a boost controller it may create 200hp in 3rd gear (auto) where a boost controller would produce more hp at the same revs or the same hp at lower revs as a direct comparison, i.e in third gear aswell. (These figures were just examples just so I could understand the benefits) Cheers
-
Cheers for the advice on the Boost Controllers, for now i will foget it and just go with the all the cats out and a restrictor ring. Reference the FMIC, I have just bought a CW SMIC, These are an upgraded SMIC and at only £534 inc delivery is an absolute bargain. On talking to Chris, he advised me that this unit is an excellent piece of kit and together with water injection is far better than any FMIC. You also dont have the problems with blocking cold air to the radiator and loosing the active spoiler. I have had mine fitted and am very impressed

I am now planning the next stage of my mods. My supe has the following perfomance mods. Nurspec R exhaust system, HKS Induction kit, 2nd Cat removed, CW SMIC, Samco hoses for Intercooler and Coolant. Trust Racing plugs and a trl fuel cut defender for safety. The car runs at about 1.05 bar, I am now looking to remove the 1st cat and fit a restrictor ring to raise and hold the boost at 1.2 bar. My question is do I need to fit an electronic Boost Controller and if so what advantages does this give me. For example I am aware that a Boost Controller will allow me to set 4 levels of boost depending on which controller I purchase starting with say stock boost rising to 1.2 bar. What other advantages does it offer, if I am not planning to change the turbos etc yet, are electronic boost controllers required. It seems with a J-Spec you can achieve 1.2 bar of boost just by removing the cats so a boost controller is not required. Is this the case or does the boost controller offer other advantages such as holding the boost throughout the gear change etc which I believe would allow fastest acceleration etc throughout the gear change. Thanks for any help as I still trying to get to grips with the ideal way to achieve maximum performance.

thanks for the info regarding the hoses, does'nt seem that I have a problem then, thank God, the missus will be happy aswell. I will keep an eye on it though Cheers Sorry Leett, I have'nt got any pictures, did you want to see the hoses to see how bad the problem was or are you interested in getting some for your Supe
-
I have just changed my stock intercooler hoses for some Samco Hoses. When i changed the stock pipes i noticed a little smear of oil on the inside of the pipes. The car is a 1994 J-Spec and seems to drive excellent with no problems such as excessive turbo noise or smoke etc. Is this common or is the oil a sign that my turbos are on their way out. Like i said the oil amount was very small like a smear. I have'nt got the money to uprate my turbos yet and just spent £1000 on a CW SMIC, Heat shield and Intercooler/coolant hoses. If I have to buy new turbos aswell this month my missus will kill me.

Just a suggestion on deciding the car that will represent the Supras. Create a shortlist so all the contenders have an idea and can get prepared. Then if everyone gets there early enough, could'nt we have mini face off on the day to decide the entry. At least this way we can all see the cars looking at there best and the best overall Supra can then be picked. At least this way if we have a shortlist of 10 top supras there and the best one enters the comp. We still have 9 immaculate supras on display aswell to show all the other clubs how fantastic the Supe is. This would need some organising to make sure everyone gets there on time for the mini comp but just a suggestion.

Ateal Thanks, my mind is a little bit more at ease knowing that my Sup is not the only one missing the fuse. Not sure what it could be for but still very curious. Cheers

Patrick Thanks for the info, I will get the number and give them a bell.
