I think its obvious electric cars will come and then hydrogen a few years later when they crack the mass storage of that medium - the cars left which use petrol will almost certainly be the ones which are 'of interest' and I'd be amazed if Supras don't come into this category. I do understand what everyone is saying though, especially at the moment with a year of being forced indoors and many people having their lives turned upside down it's given us all time to think. I've also been very lucky in the last year in that I haven't lost my job and have actually earned far more money than normal - I sell video games - I'm aware many people haven't been so fortunate. I would say if you want to revive your love for your Supra, go and test drive anything you are thinking of replacing it with and if it 'floats your boat' it will help you decide to change but I imagine in most cases it would be a case of 'never meet your heroes' and it just wont stack up to your expectations. For me the Supra is one of the few cars that does, along with several BMWs I've owned and a couple of others. But it ain't a long list.

Hi All So I got my BPU Auto TT Supra MOT'd recently and both rear tyres are advisories for wear so I am thinking time for a new set of boots and a 4 wheel track/alignment but it has me thinking. At the time I bought the best tyres that would fit for stopping distance so have Pirelli 235/40/18s on the front and Falken 275/40/18s on the rear. I appreciate changing them for Sport Pilot 4's is the advice usually given and this is likely to give me the best option for grip in the spring and summer but is there any appreciable difference between sneaking a 285 on the back as oppose to the 275 and can this even be done on a Supe without camber? The price skyrockets at 285 40 in comparison and I just don't see it making any appreciable difference in grip but I'd be interested to see if anyone has gone down this path?

I'm on the other side of the coin, on my third Supra including one Mk III and I still love mine like the day I got my first one 10 years ago. I think we are all of the same kinda generation on here and probably went through the same types of cars, ie MR2s, GTOs, FTOs Preludes, and every other coupe we could afford at the time. With all that said and done the one thing I would say is during the 2 decades of driving there was NOTHING I could afford that could match the Supra for looks, and especially power and driving feel. I've had Jags and Beemers and my wife even has a 911 with a custom 3.9 upgrade and still nothing can touch my Supe. I drive mine mainly in the dry but sometimes in the wet too when I have to (wahey!) - and I've just never fallen out of love to be honest, even at the petrol station.... There's no doubt the value of Supras is going to go up, I wouldnt be at all surprised in 5-10 years for them to start hitting 30k minimum as more and more disappear. But also, the hydrogen and electric age is coming - imagine how nice it will be to still own a hairy chested petrol polluter when everyone is humming past silently......

Jesus wept thats done it! The bloody gear selector was a bit stuck! Thanks so much, starts first friggin' time now! I bow to greater minds than me.
-
Yeah it was oem - I've just stuck my big head out of the car when trying to turn it over and the click seems to be more audible inside the car not out so am wondering if there is no response whatsoever from the starter. I will ask my wife to turn it over when she gets home from work with my big head near the relay and starter and see what I can discern.
-
Do you think its more likely to be the starter motor relay, just been searching around for more info and these are apparently prone to failure and mine could be 27 years old? Toyota want 81 quid for one and they are 9 quid on ebay! Maybe I should bang a new one of these in and if not go for another starter motor?

Ok so day two. I fully charged both batteries over night, tried both and neither start it, I checked all wires coming from the battery, all are connected. Could it be a fuse? If so which would make it not even try and start? I literally get (other than the boost controllers rumble) a single click and no effort to turn the engine over in the slightest so I am guessing either the immobiliser has gone crazy (although it still doesnt start when i disconnect it behind the dash) or perhaps the starter motor has died? Do you get a single click when they die, or does it have a fuse which could have died perhaps? Also does anyone know how you get the forum to alert you when somebody answers your post, I dont know how to do it on the new format (which is very nice by the way).
-
Strangely enough last week when I switched over the battery the car did then start again too maybe it was just a coincidence and the SM was going anyway?
-
Battery is a week old as this happened last week and I thought battery too have tried fitting the old one which held a full charge and still nothing
-
Hi All So I went to my Supe this morning to take the lad to school and did the immobiliser fob like normal, went to turn the key and all there was to be heard was a tiny click and nothing, no whining to attempt to start, no other sound at all. Is this symptomatic of a snafoo'd starter motor? I only had a new one 4 years ago but maybe they dont last that long? I suspected the immobiliser and took the side of the dash off and disconnected it, but it didnt make any difference with or without it. 93JDM TT Auto BPU is my spec if needed. My 535D started first time and just laughed at the Supe in the corner like it has so many times before, I will make this car reliable if it kills me!
Thanks Rob I will show this to the mechanic and hopefully we will be able to jump this final hurdle! Just out of interest am I the only Supra owner out there whose installed a Gizzmo then? That was a spot of bad luck for me if so!
Just wanted to thank Rob and everyone for their help with BPU - this info, along with a specialist I've found who actually know about Supras for once have cracked it and I am now full BPU running through just a boost controller. Finally! Now just need to start all over again with a respray!
-
If only it were that easy, I was searching for hours before I came on here to ask all you friendly forum types
-
Hi Ric Sorry you've lost me on that one

Thanks Rob I will show this to the mechanic and hopefully we will be able to jump this final hurdle! Just out of interest am I the only Supra owner out there whose installed a Gizzmo then? That was a spot of bad luck for me if so!

I'm getting just under 1 bar on restrictor - removed all the non conventional vacuum lines etc and am just trying to get the 1.2 through the Gizzmo but cant find anything anywhere to even begin to line it up - Have I missed something here, does everyone who goes BPU with twins use a HKS? If so I can go back to this but its the first time it's come up so I am a bit baffled, I thought any good EBC would be fine?
-
Cheers but isnt this for a 3 point boost controller - has anyone achieved BPU with a standard 2 point controller like all but the HKS have or has everyone had HKS since the beginning of BPU? If I have to buy an HKS I will but I just assumed as most instructional threads on attaining BPU dont mention you need exclusively an HKS BC it must be possible with any competent BC to achieve the same? Does anyone have a gizzmo running BPU? Thanks in advance for any help I have my car at a garage waiting for advice
-
Just to clarify the vaccum lines are stock, and the Gizzmo has power but is as yet only waiting on the correct vacuum layout, any help would be much appreciated

Hi All I am at the final stages of BPU now and after many problems I just need help with my boost controller. I have a Gizzmo V4 OLED installed but after having all the vacuum lines put back to stock I need to know how you install them to the two turbos can anyone please help? I've been trying to get this car safely up to BPU for 3 and a half years and still not managed. My new mechanic says he needs a diagram or description of how to attach them as the two turbos are connected it is not clear, so can anyone please tell me how you get the Gizzmo to work up to 1.2bar total BPU? I thought it would be a case of just connecting it to the second turbo but he says as some of the pressure goes from the first turbo to the second that isnt the case. Does anyone know exactly what vacuum lines go where? As I say everything is now stock vacuum wise but all other elements (restrictor ring FCD etc etc) are installed. I've looked all over Google and there's nothing.
-
I have this - isnt this for a single turbo? I need to know the vacuum layout for twin turbo if you know it or if anyone else does? Unless I'm missing something
-
Hi All Ok so I now have a Gizzmo V4 OLED installed in the dash after many problems trying to get my car up to reliable BPU. Can someone tell me how the vacuum lines go from this to make it work (in normal twin mode not parallel or anything) I've got a friend helping me and we are struggling royally. Does anyone have a diagram of where the lines go from the head unit to both turbos and I will give it to him. He says its easy to set this up on a single turbo but he cant get it working on twins. I can add nothing but tea and ill timed humour to the party so can anyone send us a photo or instructions of any sort to help us?
-
Hi All So I am going to remove my two boost controller idea just to make sure I have longevity on the car really now I have spent so much on it, does anyone have a photo of a Supra engine bay with totally standard vacuum line layout or a schematic of the standard layout so I can get the Gizzmo BC wired up totally correctly. Mine has been messed about with so much before I got it and by several mechanics I have lost track of where it all goes now and the only other one I have access to is similarly modded and not standard. If anyone has a photo it would be really helpful.
