  1. Hi All SLowly but surely getting my BPU stuff together for the big install and received y HKS FCD today, what am I setting this at for the 1.2 bar of JDM BPU? Probably a stupid quesiton but just thought I would ask people who know infinitely more than me.
  2. Hi Tricky. Sorry not sure what I ignored but my apologies if I did. Just want to do the right thing and am in the actual process of buying all the BPU parts. I want to get the best BPU set up - that is my goal. On pipework, I was asking what size the pipework was to see if any of the aftermarket ones fitted without increasing the size. Most people are saying WB is the best option but you say Bar and plate isnt the way to go and WB is one of those. Dont meant o cause offence but I want to get it right and am taking every single research wise as far as I can before buying. I've got the entire decat and exhaust system sorted, I know the Greddy BC is the best, have the walbro FP and now its just down to the intercooler and plugs which should seal the deal
  3. Yes I agree cheaper isnt better absolutely but when you can get the full kit in stainless for less than half of the price of the other outlets it makes you think. A Toyota one would be about £1200 with duties so yes the non standards are a bargain. Not trying to cheap out but if they have the same power as one for half the price it just allows me to spend the money elsewhere on the car. At the moment though I am most taken with the whifbitz one which is curently £420. AC93 did you renew all the pipework as well as the WB one doesnt seem to come with any unlike others?
  4. What is the best third party stainless SMIC that fits though, I see you can get ones from all over but you can get new ones on ebay which are far and away cheaper and stainless, and say they fit the Supra, has anyone side mounted any of these and if so which one and what happened?
  5. What size is the pipework as standard? - - - Updated - - - Just to explain I am not at home near my Supra so cant measure it but have time to look into ordering one now
  6. Sorry again but who is CW? - - - Updated - - - Also what size is the pipe work on a normal one just so i can look for one that goes straight in?
  7. Excuse my ignorance but what is a GW SMIC?
  8. So how do I test the condition of mine, any ideas? it looks solid enough but thats no real indicator
  9. Hi All I know there's some cnfusion over full BPU and an intercooler, is there ANY gain over adding a FMIC when you are staying within the standard TT BPU max (which as we know cant go above 450hp). I have ordered almost everything now from various outlets (so much cheaper than buying it together!) and am down to the BC which has a gain and whether or not to get a FMIC or perhaps put a new standard SMIC on? What size (core etc) is the standard IC on a TT just for comparison? I dont mind fitting it if there is a good reason and I'm tempted anyway to give me new piping and a new IC in general but if it offers a performance ceiling the same as a SMIC this would be much easier to fit of course
  10. Hi All Exactly what type of plugs are required for BPU. I know Iridium but what model and is it 0.8mm gap? Just buying bits and want to check to make sure
  11. Oh yes, sorry, we all stick to the speed limit at all times Mk4Gaz and only ever go fast on 'track days' despite heavilly modding our cars. Yes, I think that covered it......
  12. And thanks for the concern Scooter I am a much more sage driver these days and only blast when I know its a good idea. My first Mk IV I took out in the rain the first day and slid out of a roundabout sideways. You dont forget that...... I've got a Beemer 535D twin T too which takes on all the winter has to offer for safety sakes!
  13. I guess I'm of that mentality though that I'd be sat there at 1.1 bar at the lihts and some Johnny 1.2 bar would pull up next to me and..... I feel like I would always be wondering what that extra .1 would be like for the sake of a few quid saved! I also note nobody is mentioning an AFR gauge on here, does nobody at all bother with that and is it just overkill?
  14. I know what you are saying and thanks for the kind offer to help too, and I can see where you are coming from Scooter, obviously a BC aint cheap and I could use that money on something else (Supe related) - But...... I want the BPU to be a transformation in one step, to take my car from 0.76 to 1.2 all the way up to the safe max and I am ok paying the thousand or so quid to do it, to be honest I bought a Supe that needed so much work doing and cost so much to get to where it is now its a drop in the ocean to unleash its full potential now, but all well worth it. Other than the BPU set up there will then just be the valve seals, air con piping and then interior and it will be pucka. My current exhaust is standard apart form a big muffler that seems to be welded on to the end so the jump in performance should be staggering and after so many bils where you just get 'peace of mind' instead of any notable increases in performance, handling etc it will be somewhat different. I assume the Greddy is what everybody goes for, anyone on here who has one of these and if so did they dash mount it or does it come on its own mount or box for bolting? I am going to get a new dashboard too and I dont want the hassle of mounting it twice which is why I am asking?
  15. I think to explain my situation would be more helpful - I live in lincolnshire and in my town only one garage will entertain even serviciing a Supe. It seems most garages in my area run a mile - but I could get a specialist to fit a BC and then put it intermittently at 0 effect (excuse me I dont know ow they work) to get a decent 1 bar and probs near 400 safe bhp to 1.2 at the tough of a button to get between 390 and 430 (according to people on here who run them, again, not my experience). Of course to save a few hundred and go for 1.1 bar would be great but how would I do this, is there a pre defined diameter on a 3 inch system or would I have to keep taking the catback off (which I assume is where the ring goes as most people recommend as far back as possible it seems?) and grinding another mm then reassembling and test running? And thanks again Scooter, you have been the most helpful person to me on this board, I have owned three Supras and periodically been on here and have never found anyone nicer over the years!
  16. Yes I've already got the plugs in and will install FCD along with a full 3 inch system out to 4 at the back but ant to make sure its a reliable car too so going to go full BPU with a Boost Controller and a FMIC to make sure its as good as it can be but fully controlled. So can anyone shed any light on the questions before I go out buying? Do I need a big hole in my dash for a BC or is it under bonnet and can it raise a BPU decat car with 1 bar restritor to 1.2 bar safely as others say?
  17. Hi Has anyone had the need to replace the manifold for stainless for BPU? These are available which promise more BHP if replaced but just wondered if it was necessary. Also can anyone confirm whether a full JDM BPU system with 1 bar restrictor ring can be taken to the safe 1.2bar with a boost controller? If they act on the turbo I can see how that would be and therefore the restrictor ring would make 1 bar with no BC manipulation but just wanted to confirm it. Also I take it the BCs are mounted in the dash or are they an under bonnet mount? I am going for a Greddy as these seem to be the best for a Supe.
  18. Yes I see and I totally agree, however for the money I reckon stick a 3 inch on in case I want to go even further in the future as for the money theres not much in it, I do totally accept Chris and your help though it all makes very good common sense. I was going to get a 1 bar ring from Whiffbitz but if Chris has a better option I'm happy to buy from you Chris? This is not all theoretical btw, I will be buying the whole kit in the next 2-3 weeks including a FMIC (I know you dont strictly need one but probably a good idea) and a Greddy boost controller just to make sure. As a final question in regards to the boost controller, lets say I put the standard 1 bar ring in, can I actually adjust boost with that ring in with the greddy to 1.2 without all the faff of disassembling the exhaust and altering it? I mean surely this is the function of them and I can then safely control it from within the car permanently at 1.2 or whatever? I know they are dear but I was always going to get one thinking this is their purpose in BPU?
  19. I already have a fully installed boost gauge in the car though will that not be the way forward to tweaking?
  20. So Chris you are saying there is no real benefit to 3 inch pipes on a JDm and I'm going to end up with the same 400hp ish mark with either?
  21. Yes I have a boost gauge already fitted but it seems that a very easy plug and play BPU on a JDM is to go 3 inch all through and 1 bar restrictor then? So do I need an adaptor to fit the 3 inch to the manifold? I've seen BPU kits available but if you just buy the parts separate its about half the price so I am just shopping around all at once. Assuming the above is the case and 3 inch with RR gets between 1 and 1.2 boost I take it you then use the Boost controller (which can only increase boost) to sneak it up to as near 1.2 as possible safelyworking with the restricotr ring? If not what is the Boost controllers role as if the RR puts a ceiling on the boost how can it possibly help?
  22. I'm just going to buy the full list of stuff together as a one-er and get it all fitted, I think this is the best way forward as all the pieces complement each other and I dont want Supe off the road any longer than necessary. Do you have a JDM then? It seems to be accepted that there's no power to be gained from 2.5 to 3 inch exhaust on JDMs as ours need restrictor rings but a full 3 inch system is what I initially wanted and the price difference isnt too bad. And finally surely the standard exhaust system is smaller by definition so do I need an adaptor to fit a 3inch onto the manifold of the car which I assume is the only original part of the exhaust staying with BPU? I'm guessing the manifold comes out at 2.5?
  23. Probably a silly question but as most people recommend a 2.5 inch exhaust for JDMs when going BPU because it has to be restricted anywaycan you then open out to a 3 inch catback? Is there a converter or whatever as there are very few 2.5 catback systems available for a Supe. Also does a catback exhaust remove one of the cats, or is it literally from the cats back so two separate decat ipes would be needed?
  24. Hi All Just been reading about the new emissions etc rules coming into force in the UK in May 18, does anyone know are Supras pre 96 still exempt from all but a standing idle emissions rating as if they apply to us I reckon most of us are going to fail and BPUs which are de-catted definitely will? I've looked all over and cant find any mention of whether vehicles of our age are included, and of course older vehicles cant be expected to live up to emissions controls which werent in force when the car was designed but it seems that they are doing this to diesels so they might do it to us too?
  25. Hi All A while ago I saw a chrome surround that goes round the auto gearstick in a Supe and now I cant find the damned thing and want one, does anyone know where they come from? Just working out what to do with my interior and I want this piece for contrast with the ring set. Is there any non standard controls for the AC etc on the market as well that anyone has come across?
