  1. Hi All Bit of a wierd one, I got the full stainless kits for the dashboard, wow its looking so good as I slowly fit it all including speedo, warning lights everything. however, one of the first (and easiest things I thought to fit was the stainless end for the cigarette lighter. Its clearly too small to fit my lighter. I'm no smoker but wanted it to complete the look. I got hold of PSI who said is your lighter the right one and it got me thinking. With this in mind, can anyone tell me how big their knob is (children, settle down please....) mine is 23mm in diameter and has the cigarette and smoke logo on the end. Anyone else had this issue with PSI kits?
  2. I can tell you a little story on this as I'm one of the maybe the few who have actually been caught for this. Admittedly in my case it was a bit different in that I had the 'genius idea' to attach my front number plate to my active Aero spoiler on my second Supra. Then you could just manually retract it with the override button and all front facing cameras were bamboozled. Now of course thats great until the day you become a moby and forget you've done it. Pulled over and was luckily let off with 14 days to reverse the 'modification' and then inspected afterwards with the warning notice. I felt lucky at this situation as I got chatting with my father in law afterwards who is a sergeant in the police and he said in these situations the car is illegal with no number plate or a plate that doesnt match the documents, of course insurance is void and you're looking at heading towards a driving ban. He said he dealt with loads of people trying to get away with this in the past and it always made them laugh at the police station. You see when a camera sees a car with either a non matching or missing plate speeding and cant automatically move forward with a fine or letter its then elevated to being investigated manually and becomes a much more serious affair, as anyone wanting to change plates is very likely up to criminal/terrorist whatever activities. he also laughed at me about doing this with a Supra as even 6 years ago he said 'we'd just look at the picture, identify the car and how many Supras do you think there are in a thirty mile radius of the camera, let alone ones that colour....' Good point. But the other thing he pointed out which I thought was equally valid was if a policeman spots a flipper or whatnot technically they arent illegal but they then have the right to stop your vehicle to check the number plates are mounted correctly and then fully inspect your vehicle, how many of us would pass that test with mods not registered on the insurance, db ratings, tyre tread and width, you can even get points for having your washer bottle empty! The truth is we all speed sometimes and people wanting to flip plates will be tempted, and I am sure I will get my ear bent for telling my story but as someone who got caught up to similar chicanery and narrowly escaped serious trouble I thought I should share my experience. I've also been caught with a radar detector too if anyone wants that experience....
  3. Absolutely, if you are going to drive a Supe every day for long distances the repair bills will be the main worry. I've got a BMW 535D as well and skip between the two, they're both crap on fuel. I find if you dont run a Supe regularly though it starts to have more issues so a second car isnt always a fine economy
  4. Yes I agree with some of the above mate, unfortunately UK law is set so whatever they perceive is 'owed' to the government gets the biggest slice of the pie, after that you will be contacted in due course but it wouldnt hurt to contact the administrators to make sure you're registered as a company going into liquidation for whatever reason often 'loses financial data' along the way.
  5. I've checked schematics for interior and electrical and cant find it featured anywhere, no part number, no company seems able to help. I sent Keron an email with a list of bits wanted but he never responded so I assume he didnt want to deal with me for whatever reason, which is fine of course but I dont even know him. So I'm stuck on ebay and they never come up for Mk IVs, only Mk III
  6. Hi All Does anyone know where I can get a dash clock for my 93 TT? They are apparently like hens teeth to find - I've been looking on ebay for as long as I have owned the car as mine has no electronics behind the dash, just the front panel.
  7. In a ridiculous triumph of common sense over technical artistry I have solved this alone. I simply got the best speedo App I could find, checked it was reliable with my beemer, then strapped it on the windscreen with the speedo still exposed and needle loose, got to a long straight at 30 and then tighten the needle by pushing it on. Hey presto! Perfect again at 30, 40 60, everything. Stupidly dangerous in a driving sense I know but the only way I could think of doing it. I recommend anyone in a similar pickle to take a 'co pilot' for the steering which would have helped hugely to be honest but thats what I did and hopefully when I check this morning it will all still be working. Managed to stop my cigarette lighter working but that will just be a loose wire or blown fuse I imagine. Stainless dials are so cool! Spinal Tap up to 220mph all the way as well!
  8. Hi all So I installed my speedo dials, carefully noting what the natural point of rest was and then reattaching the needle at what I thought was perfect, worked the needle over the 0 peg and turned on. Whilst it sits at 0 when not moving, its clearly over reading, 30 seems to be just over 40, 60 seems to be 75 or so. HELP! what the hell can i do now, do I need to buy a new speedo. So annoyed I followed the instructions on these dials to the letter
  9. Hi All I am after a drivers side top door seal/trim, but when i go on Amayama they say right hand and left hand, looking at schematics it seems this is from behind, hence right hand is driver, but then looking on the drawing there its left hand, does anyone know which one is right to order for drivers side on Amayama?
  10. Hi All Just wondered, I have some stainless back plates to have fitted to my cluster - does the glass part come off easilly to do this or is it sealed? Youtube shows you how to remove the whole cluster but I just need to get the glass part off to put these in then needles back on dont I?
  11. Thanks Scooter, I didnt realise you had to reprogram your dash to get blue I thought it was just a case of bulbs, might leave that then!
  12. Hi All I've started collecting interior upgrades for my Supra's dashboard in particular, going for the stainless contrast with standard black dashboard, I think thats the most classy thing you can do with it (not knocking anyone with more colourful tastes, its just my cup of tea). I've had to import some parts and also have one of the dials bespoke out of stainless steel as these are now becoming obsolete. ut to work with this I need to change all the dashboard lighting including the AC etc lighting to blue. Has anyone ever done this and what is the FULL list of bulbs needed? I see packs of T5s but I cant think the speedo etc has the same bulbs as the small blower settings swtiches. Also, I assume the lights for blower etc illuminating the switches when the headlights are on are separate bulbs to the activation bulbs above the switches? I just want everything blue. I'm bloody blue mad. One of my lines of switches doesnt light up at night, even though the green lights above them work so I guess I have my answer on separate bulbs but how many and what and where from any help would be appreciated. As a side question I see many people have light up temp gauges, mine doesnt do this and is soon to be stainless, is this an aftermarket upgrade?
  13. By the way I spent some of yesterday reading your awesome history thread Evin, just superb mate top marks! Does anyone else think the lights on the proto were actually better than what became production shape? Probably going to get mugged for saying that but its the only thing I always thought could be improved in terms of looks on a Supra, smaller lights. Plus I'm a sucker for pop ups which probably shows how out of touch I am with reality.
  14. Yes its not the tensioner in itself, thats still doing its job in a 'tensiony' way, its the bearing within which is allowing play on the rotation slightly, hence making the intermittent knocks. It's defo the problem as unloaded the sound totally disappears at all revs. Its unusual as it sounds like crank pulley I agree but had that all checked too just in case and no issue there. Its all good fun owning a Supe isnt it....
  15. Just to keep everyone in the loop the problem was the alternator tensioner which was worn out I have a new one on its way (£193 if anyone wants to know genuine) and this should make the knock knocks be at someone else's door for a change. Hopefully after that and my new oil pump fitted I can actually get some driving in!
  16. That was supposed to say results yae or nae stupid phone auto correcting....
  17. After much diagnosing the bearing has worn in the alternator pulley it seems so he's going to see if he can fix it and if not they're 180 plus vat for the whole enchilada. I'll update with results use or bar for anyone else with similar issues
  18. So heres a video of the knocking what do we think? Mechanic says I have a bearing which is slightly loose on the alternator pulley which he thinks is causing it but he's having another look today.
  19. Only lost a litre and its all been looked at again and everything dealt with so must assume its cambelt pulley related most likely?
  20. Is that the same as the front main seal or main crank seal as some call it?
  21. So in my ongoing torrent of problems in making my Supe up to speed whilst having the valve seals and everything else done that was needed I had my cambelt done of course. Back and forward it went and now I finally have it back and it is making a knocking noise, especially on idle, which to me indicates a slack cambelt, am I right on that? It is especially noticable on idle and wasnt there at all before I had the new cambelt done. I've recently gone BPU and when it came back with a new cambelt it was fine, but then my FMS went and needed a new cambelt and this is the one thats faulty so I am thinking defo needs re-tensioning or replacing? I can barely get one repair finished before it needs a new one this year, its been a massacre!
  22. So I got the pump (genuine Toyota) and it has no seals, is this normal, does the mechanic need any extras to fit it? I was expecting a load of rubber seals with it or something? Also do you have a pic of the drain hole I need to mod Tricky?
  23. Just as an update I thought to myself, why the fudge would I think 'its probably not the oil pump and even though its 25 years old it will be fine' when several people have had this issue and had the same signs as me. Even if it is fine its not going to be 100% after 25 years is it. So I've bought a new pump and its booked in to have it fitted on the 10th. Thanks guys once again for being the voice of reason.
  24. LOL yes true with the exception that Grandad is Hulk Hogan. Yes he's old but he was genetically built like a brick shithouse to begin with and enhanced with his 'training, prayers and vitamins'. And like him, the Supra and the 2JZ was over-engineered to take this kind of rag. We'll all pop seals now and again, blow pumps but at least we have Supras at then end of the day hats what I alwas say when I'm paying the latest repair bill anyway. If the engine was made by some other less prodigious car companies (Gimme a V, Gimme an A, Gimme a U....) it would be a new everything every time I imagine
  25. I guess you can never count your chickens (if you've ever tried counting chickens it is actually quite tricky). I'm not saying I wont do the pump, truth is I intend to keep this car for a long time so ultimately everything is going to get changed and eventually probably the whole engine. I've got a list of things I want to do to keep it healthy as long as my arm but I will give it a couple of weeks of VERY careful scrutiny after the mechanic has finished testing it with pressure devices and rev patterns etc to confirm its pukka now and gives me it back. Its handy to know one of the mechanics I spoke to has maintained a Supra for another owner in Mablethorpe from new till she sold it last year and has seen it all and he said the same on the pump not causing it but I agree that doesnt mean it hasnt. I like to rely on the forums good advice along with boots on the ground around my smoking car and just do what I can for the best.
