Currently in the process of hesitantly wrapping the dash in carbon, slightly unsure though as I've always considered it a bit tacky. Genuine carbon would be "permissable" but I think it's too shiney, wraps have a matte-ish effect which looks a lot nicer IMO. If it looks a bit dodgy I guess I'll have to paint it as it's currently in a terrible state.

I honestly don't know. I think 350 would be more than enough for a daily, but would it ruin resellabilty? I have no figures to go on as to what an NA-TT sells for but I can't imagine it's much. Bit of a shame as the W58 and TT combo could probably be the 'cheapest' route to a fast manual Supra (I'd personally take a swapped TT5 over a TT-Auto but can see why it'd scare people off). A TT swap is what, 4-5k? Add that to the 5.5k it's cost to get here already and that's a lot of fun for the money! Put bluntly, if this car was 350bhp with a W58 would I consider it "finished"? Yes. Decisions decisions....... Then this has already become one of the many things I don't want to splash on, only to have to replace if I stick a snail on it. That said, surely the .5" would only release 10-15 bhp max, that would hardly be worth spending another £1k on.

I suppose it's about time I start logging and updating my progress. Thanks again to everybody who offered input and answers to my thousands of questions before buying this car (Scooter, Hellboy, Mike2jz, j_jza80, Chris Wilson, Annabella, Shippers and a couple more) it was really appreciated. So a month ago I picked up a very low mileage (will never know if it's legitimate) '96 NA5. It had a few problems but the owner let me have it for a price that acknowledged it would immediately need some expensive work done. Cosmetically it's exactly what I wanted, subtle but not too subtle. The first immediate problem was a loud rattling noise that occurred under load, after taking it to Adam at M-Tech/Longlife Westbury he (and Scooter on here) diagnosed it as an exhaust leak so I had a good excuse to buy a full stainless system. I opted to leave the first cat in place due to noise concerns and went with a 2.5" single pipe. She also underwent a Dyno (220hp if I remember), full service, compression test, suspension adjustment (it was way too low), new rocker cover gasket and various little bits and bobs. So after 3 long weeks I picked her up and drove her across the country. Apart from a million rattles which I've started ironing out I'm very pleased. It's not as quick as I'd hoped but there's plenty of time for that, the previous owner's paint-job is orangey in parts, the interior could do with some paint/refreshing but other than that very happy! I'm hesitant to pour too much money into it as the "NA-TT or buy a different Supra" argument seems heavily weighted towards the latter, but hopefully this build should be a long journey of small improvements anybody could make. It takes a lot of the fun out of improving a car knowing you'll be selling it in 9 months so for the time being it'll be nice to clean her up and learn a lot in the process. Either way, I adore how it looks and this feels like a great first step into Supra ownership. Current List Alloy Refurb Sound system install (there currently isn't one) HID Conversion (done) Dash carbon wrap (don't really have somewhere I can paint and the current state is dreadful) Paint correction detail Side repeater change (done) Sound deadening (in progress) LS400 Brake conversion (sourcing parts) Clutch replacement as current one is slipping, might be a good time to put a Stage 3 in for the future. Steering wheel (It has some Momo wheel but I like the Celica wheel and really should have an airbag), gotta source the adapter first though. Turbo (?) Undecided, I paid so little for this and will be doing so much of the minor work myself, I'll need to do a lot of thinking about which route I go down, but I definitely won't be satisfied with this being NA for more than a year. Any/all input on the turbo subject would be appreciated. Would the 2.5" exhaust I just fitted need ripping out for a 3" one? Anyway, here she is!

Help on buying a supra and transfering my parts
Wonga Spar replied to T14PPA's topic in mkiv Technical
Swear there's a rolling shell from a TT6 on fleabay for £1,500? Found it: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toyota-Supra-Shell-Very-Clean-No-Rust-Tt6-Shell-V5-Present/172395707085?_trksid=p2047675.c100013.m1986&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D38661%26meid%3Dfb0ab63b07b84c41920d0f6d2db61c34%26pid%3D100013%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D182329086565 -
Hi fellas, Don't suppose anybody has any further info on how much this ended up foing for? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1993-Toyota-Supra-twin-turbo/282253412291?_trksid=p5411.c100170.m2943&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140131123831%26meid%3D2d0fb597f0574cef80c6ad9d96cbe34d%26pid%3D100170%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D282253412291 I'm sure I can't have been the only one that asked him Edit: He got back to me, sold for £12k to a lovely man from France who then couldn't gather the money.

Agreed, the price of TT6's is invariably strapped to NA's. The problem is objectively a TT6 supra for £18k is still a ton of car for the money, however £6k for an N/A is barely any car for the money. It'll be interesting to see how elastic this price difference will get, but as long as you can take a stock NA and stick things to it until it's 600bhp the price can't stretch that far, yet nobody is going to pay much more than £6k for an NA supra....

I was looking for this clip for ages, that guy lived and looks infinitely worse than this did. Very sad.
-
That ain't fair. This is a thread about political discussion, not sure what you were hoping to find that's amusing in here.
-
If you genuinely interpreted what I said as "well I'll have to be violent next time I want to say something", holy hell mate, this is exactly why people struggle to discuss this stuff... It was very obviously a satirical comment about matey-boy's apparent offense to the phrase "not my president". Edit: Removed rest of comment as I really need to stop getting into these here!
-
How do you suggest people protest, mate? Facebook posts? Comments section on e-newspapers? Writing in toilet cubicles? Just need to know incase in the future I need to voice an opinion in a way that's cool w/ you. Making a statement using actual statements is obviously off the cards now.
-
Agreed, seems on the money. Much easier said than done though. Debating with people who at least consider they might be misinformed is incredibly easy/rewarding, debating with people who're certain they're right is impossible (that goes for both sides). Additionally, doing this online is exponentially harder, it's incredibly easy to weave and weasel around with language until your point stands. Go and watch interviews with voters if you want to see how quickly people crumble when the other 70% of how humans communicate is thrown into play. I don't wanna keep returning to the education thing, but things like this solidify why the school environment with teachers/lecturers is so important, it's meant to challenge you, broaden your perspective and force you to reconsider your outlooks. Maybe I'm wrong, but it's where I saw most of my friends change and most of my opinions shift anyway. That said, engaging with people that share your viewpoint, and those people alone, helps nothing. You put 100 SJW's in a room together and the only thing they'll leave feeling is more justified in their outrage. The same thing occurs on the opposite end of the spectrum (see voting habits of rural areas). Engaging with people you don't share views with helps nothing.

Aww man c'mon, I really wasn't looking to get into all this. Do I really need a disclaimer after every point I make that says "I AM NOT TALKING SMACK ABOUT THE RIGHT"? You must know you drew a conclusion there from something that I didn't really say, or even imply (intentionally anyway). Sorry, I'll rephrase- I'd rather have my angry protesters shouting and stamping their feet than shooting people or feeling a new-found justification for violence. The way you phrased your question is problematic in itself, as there haven't really been much publicised violence in the UK recently at all. The few one-off events the media jump on (like Joe Cox) wouldn't really be fair for me to use either, as it'd be highly hypocritical of me to suggest her murder represent a larger violent trend within the far-right, and simultaneously preach that we shouldn't turn away refugees for reasons of national safety because of a few isolated incidents. I'm genuinely surprised you mentioned the momentum/anti-semitism/"a few meetings thing". Most of the outrage towards this has come from lefty news outlets, and oh yeah, the right just elected Mr.Trump. Please, let's not go there, if you're going to get outraged by things like this, at least be consistent in your outrage. The hate crime spike since Brexit is well documented, but I'll assume you don't wipe the right with the same sized brush you appear to wipe the left with. Being really honest, I don't even think either party is particularly prone to violence, if they were I'm fairly sure one of the US candidates would have been assassinated by now. I'm intrigued by your suggestion that the left have taken on a 'new form' of nationalism, I haven't read that before and I genuinely like what you're saying. But until they start preaching hate (see previous disclaimer), or somebody goes on a shooting-spree protesting for feminism, representation of minorities, planned parenthood or climate change however, I ain't concerned. I really don't want to end up pissing off another bunch of members for having this conversation..

You can use "educated" however loosely you choose, mate. Some people think education means common sense, or in-depth knowledge on a particular subject, or a basic understanding on a wide range of topics, some people even define 'educated' as somebody who says things they agree with. You can debate that until you're blue in the face. What you can't really debate is that you won't get far academically if you're incapable of considering a wide variety of viewpoints, analysing and discussing their merits, then drawing your own conclusions before articulating it all. That means something, especially in politics. I'm just as annoyed by people screaming and stamping their feet because things don't go their way just as much as you are. Their behaviour (among other things) is how we got here, not only do they push rational people who agree with them away, they solidify the opposition's beliefs that the left are a bunch of raving PC babies who're impossible to reason with. That said, do you not consider for a second that the reason you're seeing so many of these people is because there's been 2 huge decisions made recently that both went in favour of the right? You're obviously not going to see anger/sadness expressed from the side that won are you? At least the liberal-types aren't renown for their violence when things don't go their way... Anyway, what do I know.

I just said this boat's about to get wild. Trump was elected primarily on the basis of turbulence and shake-up, you said it yourself, people have the power- and last night they flexed their muscles to remind the who's-who of that. It's just a shame it had to come to this. I ain't even mad, Brexit was one thing but the DNC has been disgracing itself for way too long now (and that's coming from a liberal). This is a thread about election opinions, I think I gave a pretty neutral and fair one. Didn't ask for your tirade of attack. On the subject of "learning lessons from the media's mistakes" though, coming together and dropping the left/right mutual hatred and to stop fuelling the flames is probably the most important lesson we should be taking from the last year. So if this is brought on by my rant about Brexit, I'm sorry, and apologised for it at the time. Edit: I think I even saw j_jza80 say something similar, things are already going bat-poo-crazy if we're singing off the same sheet. Preach.

One day we'll figure out a way of expressing our disgust with the political climate without the martyrdom approach. Until then, strap yourselves in and grab that sweet, sweet popcorn. This ride's about to get topsy-turvey and it's gonna be a helluva show.

It's going to be a single pipe, is that going to give the neighbours hell? New update, the manifold is being replaced too. If somebody had to suggest an optimal exhaust setup with the potential for a TT swap in the future, with noise levels in mind, what would it involve? So far I think 2.5 decat might be the best option, but I'm an idiot at the best of times. Any suggestions on manifolds while they're swapping it out? Maybe delete heat-shield delete and get a nice-n'-pretty manifold?
-
While I'd heard about how loud an NA with double decats could be, I was informed a small (2.5") custom system with double decat could have the noise managed, and that a 3" system on an NA would cause back-pressure. If this isn't the case I might have to get them on the phone ASAP as noise limiting was a major selling point of a custom exhaust. However there's a good probability this will have a GTE thrown at it next year so if people reckon I'd be better getting a single-cat 3" system that won't need replacing if it gets swapped, feel free to point me in a smarter direction. If a 2.5" decat wouldn't be too restrictive on a TT then I won't worry too much about it until it's happened.

for sale Black - tt - auto - great car.
Wonga Spar replied to herbiemercman's topic in Supra Classifieds
Sad circumstances of sale, I hope it finds a good home. -
The dyno is complimentary since I'm spending a hefty chunk of money. It's also a black car and I'm unsold on facelift headlights on black Supras. They're also crazzzyyyyy money!
-
Thanks man, solid advice. Spark plugs are included, I should have specified. I'll do some more reading up on the brakes, they look great though. The Celica wheel was my go-to choice as I drive one at the moment and the seats/wheel are fantastic. Have enquired about the adaptor but might have to buy straight from Toyota.

Hi Fellas, So the Supra has been taken to a performance shop and is about to be indulged on the big-time. I'd love to hear some input/suggestions about what else to throw at her while she's in good hands. Current shopping list: Full custom exhaust replacement. Full service. Cambelt change. Rocker cover gasket. Dyno. Alloy refurb. Suspension refurb/adjustment. Would anybody make any additional recommendations if they'd just picked up a '95 NA/5 with low mileage? Considering LS300 brake upgrade, HID conversion (the current headlight visibility is INCREDIBLY bad), different seats (holy moly are they currently uncomfortable), steering wheel change (I kinda dig airbags). Would love to hear some thoughts!

Alright lads the jury's in. Crack in the exhaust just under the first cat. Getting a full exhaust system (with no cats) fitted from Longlife. Should have the problem fixed and other than that the car is apparently in great condition!

Article 50 can't be triggered before a parliamentary vote??
Wonga Spar replied to Chris Wilson's topic in Off Topic
This isn't really aimed at you Annabelle, your comment about work being "beneath them now" just rubbed me up wrong as about 6 other people have played that same stupid "back in my day we worked hard" card. -

Sorry but you're so far off the mark I can't even dignify it. 3 years ago it cost £3,000 a year in tuition fees, it's now £9,000. Of course we got jobs, those who didn't have wealthy backgrounds anyway, that was a whole different can of worms. Especially in Cornwall, having 2,000 students in your area wanting the bottom-of-the-barrel jobs, I'd love to see how you guys responded to that!
