Parked near Aller Brake, looked stunningly clean!

If the silicon is just there to keep the crap out, the mechanic (once again) was just making it up as he went along? On the new wishbone there's a TON of play on the ball joint, not sure about the set on the car.
-
Was worried somebody would say that.... I had a full custom exhaust fitted by M-Tech (including downpipe), should that not have cured it?
-
Ah thanks! Looks like a fantastic build and credit to the owner!

Is anybody familiar with this car? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toyota-Supra-MK4-Widebody-F1BOMB-2/283116667493?hash=item41eb118265:g:H~UAAOSw~91be~pK I see a lot of people talking about NA-T hurting the resale value, yet a few NA-TT and NA-T conversions have come-and-gone recently at what appears to be strong prices. In some cases the converted Supras seem to be commanding near the exact value of the car+conversion, surely this removes any resale concerns for people considering converting? There's another NA-T example here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1995-Toyota-supra-NA-T-PRICE-REDUCED/202404207552?hash=item2f203b1bc0:g:IkIAAOSwNxlbdISZ (with some bodywork damage and a few niggles) for 1/3 of the price, but frankly I think this is slightly undervalued. Even at £10,000 though it hardly puts off potential converters for fear of losing resale! I personally have a sneaking suspicion that the "OEM Clean Collectable" resale values only really applies to factory TT's, as realistically any buyer for this market would have no interest in NA's. There might be a market for clean NA's, but I really think the appeal of a £12,000 400bhp 5-speed Supra is independent of this, appealing to a completely different buyer. What are your reckons on resale values on converted Supras?

Sorry, another problem query! Bit of a weird one for any Supra-Sherlocks who fancy a brain tickler. I get a bizarre clicking coming from the engine bay, have done since I bought the car. - It's not a knock, or a rattle, it sounds EXACTLY like this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuzW50pnXCk - It only occurs when under load, and is not rev-dependent. - Generally seems louder when it's cold, but this could be me (or oil temp related). - The timing between each "click" is completely consistent, but gets slightly louder the harder the throttle is pushed (regardless of speed). - The easiest way to recreate the sound is to cruise at 40mph, put it into 4th and press hard on the pedal. - I have zero way of accurately locating the source of the sound, as it's incredibly hard to place audibly, and only occurs while driving! - It cannot be heard whatsoever when car is parked and engine idling/revving, again, it's the depth of the pedal press that causes it! My permanent admiration and gratitude to anybody that can nail the cause! Thanks!!

As usual, I'll preface by saying I don't exactly know what question I'm trying to ask- but here goes. Took Supra for alignment, they finished, drove home and car pulled from side to side at high speeds (before alignment it was driving beautifully but wearing the inside of the tyres slightly faster than outside). Took it back to them, they pointed to the silicon (seal?) above the bushing on the rear upper arm (pictured). They were able to play with the silicon and literally make it crumble, citing this as the reason the alignment was "correct" yet the car drove like shit. They said I needed a new rear upper arm. Bought (used) rear upper arm, with the exact same crumbling silicon situation. Can't find any reference to this silicon, or what exactly I'd need to replace in order to fix. Some people say just get new bushings? As is often the case when I try to fix problems, I buy 6 of the wrong things and ask for the wrong thing from the mechanic, they do the work, and nothing gets fixed- really trying to avoid this happening again! Removed all the silicon (pictured) and the rubber bushing looks fine? Would somebody kindly tell me what this is, what's gone wrong and what I need to ask for in order to get it fixed? Thanks!!

I think most people were heavily anticipating the B58, which certainly doesn't come as a dissappointment assuming there's been some good tinkering from Toyota. The constant references from Toyota about premium models to come in the future strongly suggests the S58 will be coming as an option, as BMW haven't quite finished with it and it certainly won't appear in a Toyota before the M3. Seems very likely we could see a manual if the BMW cars earmarked for the S58 are also offered in Manual, perhaps somebody else can weigh in on that. I've heard a big mixed bag about B58 tuning capabilities, would love to hear more about them if somebody here knows the deal. Something about big tuning potential but layout means making good power is completely/deliberately shut down by BMW? Also can't say it looks like an engine a 'weekend mechanic' could fiddle with... I'm borderline useless with a wrench but even to me the 2JZ just looks so welcoming to toy with. Fingers crossed though!

Great story about collecting the engine, glad it's all worked out so well! Looking better and better! -
I've kinda thought for a while it seemed fairly likely we'd get a B58 engine, followed by an S58 variant perhaps in the following year post 2019 M3 release? The Z4 will have the B48 and B58, as BMW made it clear they wanted a 4 cylinder option. Gotta admit I didn't think we'd see that in the Supra, as others mentioned an I6 NA seemed more likely, now seems it will have the same (albeit tweaked/fiddled with). Gotta admit I'm slighttttly disappointed to hear about this, why even bother with a 4 cylinder? I truly don't understand who would buy that car, it seems almost counterproductive given the GT86 is in a similar space! Toyota have mentioned a few times there will be higher power versions still to come, kinda makes sense as the 470~hp S58 is still being finalised and BMW wouldn't allow the first iteration of it to sit in a Toyota. I mean there's no way in hell BMW, kings of "use this engine in all of our models for 5 years" are gunna develop a fresh engine just for the collaboration. What else is gunna be in it if not the B58?

As title suggests, if anybody has any knocking around from an old NA-T conversation I'd love to take them off your hands. Preferably somewhat new-ish! Many thanks!

Gazoo Racing A90 Supra private event video from Friday night
Wonga Spar replied to Pete's topic in Supra Chat
Thanks for sharing that Pete, vids like this are great for people who couldn't attend! I can't tell if I really dislike the proportions or not. Perhaps it's just in pictures (less so in video) but I cant shake the impression it looks slightly squished and vertical. Did it "feel" that way in person? Side profile however looks 10/10 imo! -
Got to be the Yanks driving prices up on the Mk4 Wordlwide

Reckon there will be much value in clean/stock NA's? Or can I turbo the tits out of mine without remorse for resale value? -
What do we reckon the chances are of an engine bay shot? Can't wait for some hill-climb vids!

Pretty new to all this but genuine question; is it just a long, long chain of very bad luck, or is taking a Supra to a "general" mechanic just a terrible idea? Of the 10-15 bits of work I've taken the car to a garage for, seemingly 50% of them have been done to a piss-poor standard, or I've found problems later on that I end up paying twice to fix. Surely, surely this can't be the norm, and perhaps it's just an old platform they might not be familiar with? Does everybody experience this until they either learn to do it themselves or find a good mechanic? Sorry for the rant, it's really disheartening saving for something and following advice/spending the dollar only to feel constantly walked over when I get the car home and XYZ is still not fixed or a whole new problem has sprung up.

Just for conversation's sake, this thread is my go-to when looking for interior inspiration Painfully pretty, modernised OEM look. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?348595-Black-Supra-(Classy-Interior)

Man.... this is too awesome. Would love to know a little bit more about your experience sourcing/purchasing/transporting the engine! What happened in the 4 month gap? Is the engine still in the living room? -
I have very limited experience but currently use the Chris Wilson NA-TT Clutch in my NA and it feels fantastic.
-
Oh come on.... I'm going to be paying 400 a month for fuel. Of course I'm going to be concerned, but I'm sure as shit not parting with it.
-
Fair points, Sam. I swear I've read a few times that the Jap engines were intended for cleaner fuel so UK premium was a must, irrespective of compression?

for sale Whifbitz NA-T kit BNIB and Greddy ECU

Reckon Whiftbitz would still fit this? AFAIK they don't fit used parts! -
Some really, really insightful help here guys. Thanks for going easy on me too, I know a thread about maximising economy from a Supra is going to furrow some brows! The commute is almost all motorway/dual carriageway. The second car option would definitely be the optimal financial choice, but I'm allocated 1 car parking spot and a 10 minute walk to a second car would get boring fast. I bought a little Civic last year and I know this is the exception but the bloody thing just hemorrhaged problems, I love spoiling the Supra when it comes to maintenance but a few 400 quid bills on the "reliable" daily leaves a very sour taste in the mouth. Plus 0 NCB on a second car and all the tax/insurance associated with a second vehicle very quickly eats into savings, plus the misery of going from dailying a Supra to a 1,000 quid diesel. Meh.... The MPG monitoring app seems nice, but if you really want to get an accurate figure you need to make your driving/journeys consistent for the whole tank, a weekend blast or an hour in traffic can really skew results. I don't need to know my average MPG, I need to know what I could achieve in theory with a lot of discipline! If 28mpg is attainable with sensible driving on my commute then that's good enough for me, but definitely going to investigate the LPG conversion further. Not to mention the cost of premium is 1.40+ at the moment!
-
Hard to tell if driving behaviour has much benefit though without being able to get a readout. Running odemeter/fuel bills is a piss-poor way of measuring mpg.
-
I should have been more clear would something like this fit to the Supra? https://frsport.com/autometer-9105-gauge-fuel-economy-2-rpm-mph-inst-avg-mpg-digital-obdii-ecome?currency=GBP&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI9qbPpdbE2wIVlvdRCh3msQe1EAkYBCABEgLu7vD_BwE Unfortunately buying a second car would mean the Supra would barely get used enough to justify owning it, and that's just not an option. Would rather bleed £300 a month on fuel than part ways with it. But paying £1,500 to get an ECU with some map options for MPG would pay for itself very quickly (although that's probably not a thing).
-
I've just blown my entire NA-T fund on a mortgage deposit and unfortunately my new commute to work is a 50 mile round trip. MPG is now king, is there anything I can do/buy/install that would dramatically help MPG? No suggestion is too outlandish, I'm even thinking fitting an ECU and getting an MPG focused map might be an answer, would love any insights on this. Has anybody fitted an MPG gauge before? There seems to be a few available but I'm slightly dubious of their effectiveness. Any and all help with this would be massively appreciated, I really don't want to have to buy a second 'sensible' car!
