  1. Up until about three months ago I would have said the same. However, when I looked over a very low mileage DB9 in detail I was very suprised at the seemingly poor material choices and corrosion. Don't get me wrong - they look lovely, sound nice, the drive was smooth (if not particularly fast) and the interior looked great but there was so much corroded aluminium on the thing it spoilt my previous perceptions. Wheels, centre caps, under bonnet bracing and framework, engine related covers and panels etc...it put me right off and I wouldn't dream of buying one if I lived in this country due to the moisture and seemingly inherent corrosion issues. Maybe I was looking at a bad one? I would probably be leaning towards an R8 V10 (over the 997TT and R35) but I have no idea if the cost is comparable.
  2. Paul Whiffin suppied a full set of rings for me (seat and locker) for each damper. Mine were corroded on to the point where the threads were pretty much non existent. With the damper body cleaned up the new rings adjust fine.
  3. I am of course referring to wastegate plumbing....nothing sexual
  4. I'd never thought of that before...sounds like something off an Ali G episode. Mine is loud enough when flowing through the wategate and that's with it recirculated....I don't think I could live with a screamer.
  5. Not sure how much effort or any particular look you are after, but what about these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOYOTA-SUPRA-DL-SIDESKIRTS-SIDE-SKIRTS-body-kit-bodykit_W0QQitemZ360140376569QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item53da0a09f9 They're not to my taste but may be the right base shape to tie into the flat bottom? Edit: This item looks like it contains the same skirts so gives a better view of them. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Toyota-Supra-DL-Bodykit-F-R-Bumpers-Skirts_W0QQitemZ290422961510QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item439e8eb566
  6. Thanks for the spin today mate....loving the noise and the grip levels Mean machine! Thanks for the map tweak today as well. The mid range on mine feels great with the valve open, plus it sounds like a real Supra now
  7. What did you change to J? And was it the NGK's you went back to?
  8. Jez at FIC has some big injectors now which are similar to your last/existing set. I think he said 1600 and 2200
  9. Good luck with it - I hope it all works out great for you mate
  10. OK guys, I am considering starting on a custom brake setup and have spent a bit of time of measurements/fitments etc but it's hard to commit to anything or make headwat without actual parts in front of me. I don't want to take my car off the road for three months while I work on this so I'm wondering if I should have a dummy setup for test fitting and development. I have spare suspension arms so now I'm thinking I should buy a complete front hub assemby and use that along with these arm to evaluate clearance etc. Does anyone have anything suitable? Cheers Dan p.s. I will also need something similar for the rear. (I'm not sure if it matters but my car is a 1996 facelift TT with bigger brakes from the factory)
  11. At a 90mph cruise in 6th I am seeing no higher than 720C. 14.6-14.8AFR closed loop 0.81 housing on 67DBB 3 row intercooler This is from Defi thermocouple probe in rear runner of exhaust manifold Solaris probe is in front runner ( I could interrogate that for additional temps if you want?) Cast manifold (all exhaust parts are ceramic coated)
  12. I have a Greddy plenum and Q45 throttle body to fit to my car but I am missing a few of the brackets for things like the fusebox and the power steering reservoir. I know I am also missing the short length or wiring for the fuse box relocation too. I didn't know the kit came with these parts at the time so it was a slight oversight on my part Ideally what I would like to do is fabricate the brackets before I start the job to save on downtime and hassle so if you have a kit sat around waiting to be fitted, please drop me a pm or post here as I'd really like some help regarding the brackets (up close photos etc) Many thanks in advance Dan
  13. Lee was able to squeeze my car in on Good Friday and I'm very grateful - thanks Lee. It was a fair drive over there from Gloucester so it was very nice to arrive to a sausage sandwich and a cup of tea Lee fitted a new water pump, cam belt tensioner and damper for me. I wasn't able to do these jobs due to a shoulder injury so it was nice to find someone with the same attitude to working on cars as me.......... my mind was at rest regarding the quality of the work. Thanks again Lee
  14. It dumps out down near the diff sort of area - slightly to the offside. I did run it for a while without this downturned tip on but had a few concerms about heat and flames causing issues on the rubber doughnut and inner shaft boots as the valve itself points fairly close to the doughnut. I toyed with the idea of extending the whole thing right to the back but figured I'd try the lightweight option first before I do anything more complex I'll try to get a pic of it on the car over the weekend. Regarding the exhaust flow....yes, I reckon there may be some issues with this setup when flowing through the 3" section due to the turbulence from the shut valve. However the curved piece of pipe between the 1st and 2nd silencers is 4" diameter and this is where I have tapped off to the valve so there's plenty room and flow area. It certainly feels no different on the road The other option was to Tee the bypass valve off the 3" section to keep the 3" nice and free flowing - a bit like this: However, plumbing it that way (where I had space) would compromise the flow through the dumped exit which is the exact opposite of what I wanted. The way I have it keeps the dumped option the least restrictive and most direct. I can live with a small compromise on the quiet setting I suppose the real answer will come from the rolling road. I'm looking forward to seeing the curves with the valve open and closed to see how both compare to the normal 3" option I used to have. Fingers crossed!
  15. I got the outlet pipe for the valve finished and fitted it today.... I also added an extra exhaust mounting point and wrapped a few parts of the system in an attempt to remove a slight bit of tinnyness in the sound - I stopped well shy of the backbox as I had some concerns about clearance to the subframe...now that is's all back on it looks like I could have wrapped the rest too. Typical I have some more work to do on the breather system and then it'll be back to the rolling road once Mr G can spare some time.
  16. DP and MP have always been 4" and with recirculated wastegate. Last rolling road session on that setup (569bhp) was with the 3" exhaust which has loads of bends, three silencers and areas where it goes down to 2.875" ....it couldn't really look more restrictive. The 4" exhaust I have on now is a modified version of this 3". Basically I replaced the first 3" silencer with a big 4" silencer and added an electric butterfly valve right after it. When that valve opens I have 4" from the turbo back, with one straight through 4" silencer dumping straight out with no need to flow through the 3" section.
