  1. I may have missed this but what happened to the 3G discs? Were they UK spec size and something happened to them affecting performance?

    OIL spill

Are you sure that isn't 17,000psi?

    OIL spill

A point the media are missing (or perhaps unaware of) is the "oil" coming out of the well is in the region of 80% water so the actual "oil" volumes can be considered as 20% of those published to start with.
  4. Bloody hell - I'm literally just about to fork out for a set of floating discs for my big brake setup and you go and post this up!
  5. If he declares it to his insurers on a modification report form and shows photos - surely that would suffice?
  6. Maybe someone levered against it getting the front pulley off? If you can get a couple of really good close up shots of it the initiation point may be visible and that would give an idea of how it got loaded (if at all).
  7. Yes. Makes sense if they are from a vvti car. Are you open to offers on the two working ones?
  8. Nice motor - shame I don't have room for another. Good luck with the sale.
  9. There's a real simple online trig calculator here http://www.visualtrig.com/ Not sure if the Desktop version is any good...
  10. Thanks Aji. Is your's a 100% track car or does it get used on the road as well? Would you say they'd be ok on the road with cold braking etc? Any massive noise increase over other pads you've used?
  11. I'm trying to narrow down pad choice for my custom Alcon setup - 6pot monoblock up front and 4pot monoblock at the rear. No chance of using stock discs or UK shaped pads in this instance. Unfortunately PFC only supply their race 01 compound for those calipers so it looks like they are out of the running as that may be a little too severe for me. Carbotech have said they will make a custom set of pads in the XP8 compound for ~£450 so I'm trying to get a bit of general feedback on that compound before I jump I'll do a bit of reading on Hawk pads, thanks - I see them mentioned on SF a fair bit....
  12. AJI - How do you find the disc wear with the XP8 pads?
  13. Front pads are in the region of £220 and rears approx £180 for Performace Friction in their "01" competition compound. Apparently they are relatively dust and noisy as this is the competition compound. Have you ever used these Wes (or anyone else)? On road or track? Oh yeah - I could get PFC front discs as well as they do a direct replacement for the 356mm AP floating rotor. I'm looking into it as an option but they are not a company I know a great deal about so I am not sure if they are a sensible alternative to the AP's I was planning to go for.
  14. Splendid PM'd you ref. phone number and address for collection mate. Ideal time would be this evening if that works for you
  15. In contrast, I think Ryan was running into reasonable power losses at ~550bhp with both OEM and aftermarket elements in the stock box. No charcol cannister here
  16. This is how and where the bypass valve dumps out from the exhaust. 4" downpipe, 4" midpipe and one 4" straight through silencer and then out to fresh air....that's it when the valve is open. It really does sound awesome as you can hear some very subtle and interesting sounding noises as the boost just starts to build....a bit like the combination of a deep glugging sound and a quiet whistling - very unusual. It also has a lovely raspy growl to it when flat out which doesn't sound like a Supra at all - more like something from Nascar The cast manifold may well be contributing there as well
  17. Cheers fellas - thanks for the comments I got the rubber trim from Minimail 01989 720111 - it is used for the bonnet seal on 1997 and later Minis The heatshield stuff is here http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Motorsport/Car_Preparation/Heat_Shielding_&_Protection/Nimbus_GII_Heat_Shield/1471/1883 and here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HEAT-SHIELD-G2-HEAT-BARRIER-MATERIAL-615mm-x600mm-aprox-/310216451183?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item483a57646f It's very easy to work with and I made up that shield for the clutch fluid area using cardboard as a template....it was a long job to get it perfect
  18. That may be so. However, the piston and disc sizes (and pad height) I'm working with work out to approx 17% greater braking torque than a UK brake setup with the same friction factor. I'm not going to be short on stopping power even with a normal road type pad. The difficulty for me is finding an OEM type pad compound for aftermarket motorsport calipers...hence me steering to something regarded as a fast road compound.
  19. Cheers guys I don't really fancy the idea of a super dusty pad or corroded alloys too much but my main aim is to find something that is kind to the discs as they are the pricey part! Maybe I should try some of the AP pads. I'm waiting for a price on AP discs from Paul Whiffin so I'll ask him about pads too. He sells Porterfield as well if I remember rightly... I know there are definitely Perf Friction pads available...or at least that they have the right pad shape for the calipers (their pad shape number is 7876) so I'll drop their UK guys an email and see what they say.
  20. Here are a few general engine bay shots for the photo lovers I haven't got anything too recent but this is almost identical to how things are now barring the filter heatshield and a bit of hose tidying here and there.... Apologies to the clean freaks and detailers as this hadn't been cleaned at the time so it's not up there with the show and shine winners but I think it still looks pretty neat and tidy and the sunshine was obviously helping with the pics!
  21. This is pretty much how the air intake area looks right now although the round seal around the air filter shield is a much deeper profile so it seals tight around the turbo inlet pipe...
  22. Thank you...it's been a long road and I'm very happy with it all now although there's a lot still on the horizon! I originally intended to modify a stock airbox to work with the GT35R I was planning to fit but for some reason...when I went with the 67DBB I went off the idea of modifying the stock airbox. I may well go back to it but I do remember Ryan did some work with it on his single and it did strangle power (but he may have still only had the two stock feeds to it). Right now I have a shield fitted which seals up against the bonnet which does a pretty good job of keeping hot air from being drawn into the filter. I have no recent photos but I'll post up some older ones which show it with a different seal fitted....and without any dedicated cold air feeds other than the obvious gaping void under the headlight Cheers matey, very much appreciated :)
  23. Does anyone know how kind (or un-kind) these are to discs during fast road and occasional track usage? They will be on AP slotted discs. I'm considering buying a set for a pair of Alcon six pot calipers (pad shape is Ferodo FRP3081) and they come in at about £170 per set. Does that sound reasonable? Calipers here: http://www.alcon.co.uk/Catalog/11.pdf
