  1. i had a very similar problem this evening, felt like a blip in the 2nd turbo coming on line. i thought it's probably plugs and was planning to change them anyway. i have exhaust, 2nd cat gone, dsbc, etc, 1.1bar boost. What plugs are recommeded, anyone have a suitable NGK number? sorry to mention something not related to the thread but Alex, you have a pm from me.
  2. The way i see it there are two options: 1. The gauge is wrong, boost is as indicated by the dsbc and i have no real problems and have obviously gotten used to the performance of the car ans it no longer feels as fast. 2. The gauge is correct and for some reason, boost won't get above 0.6bar with the dsbc in place. In this case either there is a problem with the dsbc(failed pressure transducer or similar) or something else has occured such as a leak. Come on people, help me out, what do you think i should try/check next?
  3. i dont think it can be a knacked turbo, i was driving in the day with the bleed valve in, did the dsbc in the evening and went out testing/setting up that same night. I can't think where a leak could appear from in that space of time but i will triple check. I think no.1 is making about o.5 bar and then this rises to 0.55-0.6 when no.2 comes online. But...........why would the dsbc give a different reading to the gauge. e.g. a gauge peak hold of 0.55 and dsbc displays peak of 0.86 for example. Surely if there was a leak then they'll both read low? I thought at first the dsbc was reading a real quick spike which the hks gauge could not pick up. However the gauge won't go above 0.6 at all even giving it WOT in any gear for any length of time, whereas the dsbc may read 0.95bar.
  4. Hi Guys, after a bit of advice. Previously running 1.00 - 1.05 bar with a bleed valve until i connected the DSBC and took off the bleed valve. Now, regardless of settings on the DSBC the boost gauge won't read above 0.55-0.60 on the peak hold. Yet the DSBC can hit its limit of 1.05 or 1.10 bar and knock the boost back below this. The car does seem to be a little slower as if it's not makng boost above 0.6bar. So i think it is not making any boost above the 0.6bar and the dsbc is malfunctioning and reading too high and cutting boost when really it's not actually making any decent boost. Boost builds to 0.5 bar, then drops sloghtly before rising slightly again to the 0.55-0.60 bar. So i think the bleed off to no. 2 is working ok but the boost is just not very high. As far as i can see there are no leaks anywhere and everything is blanked off and connected correctly. The boost gauge and DSBC take their pressure feeds from the same place. What do you think guys, any ideas???
  5. did it my accident when seting the dsbc up. gain was too high and with limiter set to say 0.9bar, there'd be a really quick spike to 0.95 or similar and then reduced to 0.6 ish. the hks boost gauge would not read a peak hold above 0.6 bar and i thought it was knackered but as far as i can work out it just couldn't keep track of the quick boost spike. i know this is not right, using thye limiter to control boost but just something i stumbled across. now running gain of 9 and ratios of 38, 43, 47, 47 i think. gives a range of 0.6-1.1 in this hot weather any opinions on any of this??
  6. on a slightly different note, with my dsbc controller fitted i can reduce the boost down to 0.55-0.6bar, by playing around with the gain and limit settings
  7. ah right i see. in that case they were probably not fitted with any of the mine's then, unless that was taken care of during the remap cheers john anyone else got any more info on the Mine's ecu??
  8. damn, that's a shame. - you got my hopes up! do you think it's worth dropping in a set of uk specs for future safety margin? will the ecu be ok with this, do you think, after a little time to relearn? i may find out the cost from toyota of a set just out of interest if i can find the part no.'s editted: not forgetting the resistor pack aswell !! more money!
  9. yeh been looking for a while, only really found stuff about worries with the rev limiter, nothing i thought was overly interesting or useful. i wanted to find out what the real differences were as far as performance and reliability is concerned..........also working out my route of upgrades at the moment it looks like: cw replacement pipe and restrictor ring (within 3 weeks) better plugs at service (as above) fuel pump and regulator btw turbos are jap spec with steel internals
  10. and...grey coloured injectors!!
  11. i have trial exh, big cat replacement pipe, 1st cat in till i see CW, dump valve, dsbc, t.timer, and the ecu. gonna go out and look at the injectors now.....
  12. what sort of spec is your car john? hybrids and front mount? how do you back off the timing with the stock or mine's ecu, is it a job for another piggyback or can someone do it in the ecu? any idea on the injector theory?
  13. Hey all, Just wondered who has this ecu fitted and what people's opinions are of them. Is there a fuel cut or rev limit at all? Is there any way to tell if larger injectors were fitted along with ecu? If so, any idea on sizes/bhp limits etc? If the fuel map is calibrated to 1.1bar, what's happens if boost goes above this (perhaps 1.15-1.2bar) -no extra fuel? -Surely this situation is far worse with stock ecu's as the step up to 1.2 from the "safe" 1.0 bar is greater? Who's got one and what do you think of it?
  14. anyone want to share their dsbc settings and different turbo/boost specs etc?
  15. Just a quickie, I just wondered what a Mines ecu was as i've seen it listed in some peoples signatures and didn't know what it is. Also seen pics of someones ecu showing fuel cut defencer position and wondered what some of the straggly looking wires were, but no major worry as i don't have the pic to hand. Posted fairly recent regarding fuel cut stuff. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
  16. ok gavin, thanks. so the clicking noises are all ok? i'll look into moving the solenoid pack a bit closer. what sort of gain/ratio settings do you run for different boost levels?
  17. Hi all, I fitted the dsbc, just sorting out a decent position inside the car. Under full throttle (first noticed in higher gears, but actually in all gears i think) i can hear what i think is the solenoids flickering away to themselves. They are mounted near the OS shock tower on the side nearest the passenger compartment. Is this normal and should i presume this is all ok???
  18. i have a clifford cat 1 approved alarm and a greddy t.timer. what is the problem with this? or am i missing something obvious
  19. thanks james and gavin, i must admit i didn't look properly at mkiv.com as i got bogged down reading through the set up stuff else where thanks again all
  20. aha, thanks john. no need to compress the spring then?? not 100% if thetein is same as stock installation wise....hope so
  21. does anyone know where i should connect the pipes from the solenoid pack? please help?? ps cheers for that site gavin very very useful for actual operation
  22. apparently one chap genuinely thought it was too fast and subsequently wanted an auto instead, another couldn't get a decent insurance quote for centre of london. all in all he waited about 5 weeks for me to decide!! seriously nice chap. i think he wanted to sell it to me as i showed a lot of genuine interest, a fair bit of knowledge and he wanted it to go to a good home.
  23. Hi all, I've searched for this and looked in the specific setting section but not found exactly what i'm after. The previous owner had the DSBC installed but disconnected the display/controls and the solenoids and fitted a bleed valve as his tuners didn't like the ebc. All the parts are still in place just not connected. The display works fine when connected, i now need to plumb in the solenoids and begin some testing. What i need to know is, where do the "in" and "out" pipes go to from the solenoid. Can anyone show me a photo or describe the location to me. The solenoids have pipe on which is fairly long, so i'm guessing that they head for the actuator on the front turbo. Please help anyone if you can........thanks
  24. cheers eyefi, thanks a lot. saving the pages now on my mega cr@p dial up connection! if you didn't already know i've just bought my supe after about a month of discussion and haggling. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10517
