its mad the way 4 weeks can disappear. anyway, I made an ring to insert in the pulley gap to be able to bolt my bar sturdily to the pulley so hopefully the bolts wont shear when re-tightening. next problem: What as everyone done to tighten to the torque needed lol. I have been to a couple of local garages and non have a torque wrench which goes that high. Just 150 foot pounds(like my own). even tried hire shops but only found one with 300 n-m so still abit short. Dammed if I am spending £100+ on a new bar just for one bolt. where have you sourced you bars from??
-
Yes I agree, 2 m8 bolts is a very poor way to of done it considering the stresses involved. I have always used the cranking/breaker bar way when not been able to do it the way you should. So its 324 nm what those bolts have to hold against when tightening back, thats a lot. AL Massey Just had another look at the pulley and it appears that a legged pulley might work as the edges of the rear of pulley are accessible, is it those pulleys you were referring to. I actually thought that rear section was recessed into the block, I should have looked closer before packing in on discovering the broken bolts lol. But still ,I would prefer to save money by fabbing one up if it don't pull off when I work on it next. thanks for the input so far guys.
-
My homemade one does and I don't feel like spending money when I can make it. But as a querry have you got a link to the kind you are referring to as I only know the ones that bolt in holes or ones which require a lip to pull against.
-
Yes this what I had in mind, was gonna bolt to pieces of angle to my bar then bolt through that into the hole I am drilling in the side of the pulley, just hope that it works. Will keep posting as it goes but ain't sure when will work on it next.
-
Ain't sure how to multi quote so just replying generally. Puller won't work unless I drill the 2 holes needed plus I am wondering if the bolts snapped from bar holding crank while pulley bolt was being undone or if it was from a pulley remover which would mean the pulley bolt must be seized pretty good. Unfortunately due to my insurance and were the car needs to be kept while not being used, I can not jack it up or gain access to it from below which is also hindering my preferred removal. Pulley bolt first. As any one on here used a breaker bar locked against the floor method on the 2jz, would be my last resort method but curious? Never had an auto before so might be a dum Q ,also not at home so cant check yet. Can you use first or second to lock the crank with an auto?? Also anyone got the torque setting for the crank pulley as I have not got any kind of manual yet. Being has I have got to drill holes either way, I am going to attempt to drill through the side at each end and insert a solid bar for leverage to undo the crank bolt and hopefully it will slide off.if not will adapt my homemade bar to fit and see how it goes lol

Wanted to think on it first before removing rad and doing that as I have not got one of them fancy 90degree drill accessories.thought a couples of ways, just gotta see if they work.
-
To be honest, yes I am starting to think that , was more likely a garage than owner, the amount of bodgies I have seen by so called proffessionals never seizes to amaze me from family n friends cars.

Following on from this: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?332497-good-ride-out-then-not-so-good-lol thought I would tackle this today after recieving my new one. Started stripping parts down to get at offending item. Rad cap was in this state but unknowing to me ,worse to come. visible melting marks were the outer ring must have spun into. then found this awaiting me when I went to bolt my home made bar into, initial thought was broken bolts from a previous removal attempt from previous owner/s. But when took a piccy and zoomed in it actually looks like the holes have been welded up. Why would someone do this?? Anyway this as complicated matters and decided to pack in and thick on it for abit lol. it always amazes me what you find bodged by previous work as a new owner :banghead:

taken on board thanks. was thinking of going wide arch ridox but love the look and shape of the std supe.choices choices:banghead:

cheers for that, that's handy that I ordered a roller last week then lol. I am stuck as what to do as my current wheels are 17's which I think look to small but the ones on it when I got car were 20's which seemed a bit big. Just can not decide on 18's or 19's at moment.
-
that is a very nice looking mota, black and white are my fave colours. Once funds allow I will be ditching my bomex f/lip to make it look more oem as think it is one of the best looks. If you don't mind me asking, what size and offsets are those wheels as that is next on my list and that stance looks just right.
-
yeh, i should do that really as all my cars are 20+years old lol.

Sun was out yesterday so thought would wash the car and have a good ride out to bridgnorth to clear some cobwebs. All was good to there then on return journey noticed the rev counter start to play up and thought thats odd, quite alot further as the roads back are long I put the indicator on and it was erratic to say the least, a bit further and started to hear a bit of squeal and thought , better have a look under the bonnet, were i spotted a nice big circular ring sitting by the rad. At first thought it was the crank pulley but belt etc seemed fine and still attached and running, could see the grooves on pulley so wondered where the hell would it of come off from ,thinking i just could not see the offending p/s - aircon pulley etc( not really tinkered under bonnet yet).then looked at crank again and thought it looked not quite right then realized could only see what seemed to be a solid ring(no damper). Then it clicked, the belt had worn grooves into the rubber damper after the outer ring fell off. Whats the odds of that happening I thought lol. luckily no other damage seems to of been done and i managed to limp home the 12 miles back with no electric as it basically killed the battery which meant no indicators or hazards. Even though i pulled over every no and again to let following traffic past was getting various hand gestures, as obviously they just assumed was pulling over for no reason without signalling etc. oh well the joys of older cars, but other than that, LOVED IT:cool:

must admit, was a tad worried to see how this would turn out when first saw how you were doing the holes in the engine bay but has I kept reading and you took note from various comments/recommendations from others, I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing this transformation and you have done a grand job buddy. your car looks stunning and you should be proud mate. great job.

rant Why can't people be careful with their cars doors!
syco replied to krisgowing's topic in Off Topic
this is what i mean, I don't understand the mentality of these people, its like something in there head is telling them they must park by another car. I occassionally have to pick my mrs up from tesco's (work), and i do the same as you. but still get numpty's park close, to the point they struggle to get out there car. I asked the one once, why so close and why next to me when there was a million spaces every. They just looked at me with a gone out look lol and scurried off. -

arrrrgh this has got to be one of those things that get me so mad:cry: . I park miles away from other cars but when you go back out to your car there is still some muppet ussually parked next to it and even worse they park close to it aswell, even though there are no other cars by it. what the f@ck is that about,it hurts my head even thinking about it. Also it is not easy denting a panel just from lighlty hitting it,itried it with some old panels once and it actually takes a decent amount of effort which makes it seem like they could not even be bothered to be careful. sorry rant over and feel gutted for you. -
yes, seems that way. unless i put my hi beam on, can not tell they are even on, they are totally naff. but the light sequences all work in order, just cant tell when on road till use hi beam. When you say not dipped, do you mean the light pattern is facing upwards hence you adjusted them to face down towards road? To be honest even when lit up against the wall the light was still poor till hi beam selected.
-
ok cheers, worth a look for £40 as they don't seem worth turning on at mo:( easy mistake to make but am used to the stalk as same on my mr2, plus i double checked as was puzzling me.thought i was missing something simple.
-
had a couple of rides in the dark now and unless I put hi beam on, can not tell they are hardly on, even in country lanes. Are supra lights not very good as std or does the plastic discolouring really make the light omitted that poor, as mine are quite yellowish. On the first ride i actually got out to see if they were working.but all seems well other than the poor light. when they are on hi that seems to be on par with normal on my other cars. thanks

Hi, I am near wolverhampton

thanks all, yes that pretty much sums it up. already got the turbo in the cupboard. Not sure how long the process will take, only use to take months when younger but family and responsibilities mean i don't get to play with the toys often

Thanks, the previous owner did say that members had come to view it previously but not wheither he was one. I did pay more for it than wanted as let my heart buy it instead of my head lol, but at same time it was close by and they are becoming hard to get hold of so that was also a big deciding factor. But i dont mind a bit of graft as i got what i wanted I did take a pic not long after but have already taken the wheels off and put some proper jdm ones on but think they might be a tad on the small side, still getting use to them at moment.

Just thought i would say hi, Have been an infrequent visitor for years as have always wanted a supra. Have just recently acquired my dream car, well half kind of as would of liked an aero manual turbo in white and managed to get a aero auto NA in silver . Will probably be pestering the knowlegable in the future when weather picks up. From what i would have liked to what i got will give you a clue on my plans all being well. simon
