  1. Thanks mate, I was considering these guys, at the moment Whifbitz would be the most likely for me. First things first, get that boost controller ordered!
  2. I do believe I found the source of the problem. We were looking at the right area, but I don't think the FPR is the actual problem, but rather the EFI pipe leading from the FPR to the rail. It was cracked pretty badly. At first, I thought maybe it just looks worse for the wear, but after I gave it the slightest of squeezes, fuel sprayed everywhere. So now with a new pipe on there, I am expecting no more issues! Thanks for all the advice guys, goes to show if there is some issue in this area with holding fuel pressure, then it can cause any number of intermittent issues. Always check the pipes closely I guess...
  3. 6spd mate Yeah I noticed the love of higher octane (predicted it would anyway..) Had to put half a tank in the day I bought it to drive south, since that filled on BP ultimate/Shell V Power Nitro whatever its now called. Much better. I live about 5 minutes from santapod so the idea is to get it there soon. Also a bit of fun coming up later this month on a trackday but that's more to learn the handling traits of the car in a safe(er) environment.
  4. He was a long time ago, he stopped using the car so much a few years back and slowly stopped using the forum he said. Just got a text back from him! Key point: the restrictor ring was fitted after the dyno sessions. Therefore, I assume it ran around 1.2bar for those readouts. So now... definitely time to get a boost controller on there
  5. That's interesting to hear, and makes me now want to know exactly what's going on even more. As I say, I have some dyno readouts showing just over 390bhp, so that is the minimum impression I am under. Therefore, taking into account your experiences, I am going to ask for even more detail as to the modifications done to the engine. It definitely peaks at 0.9bar, it seemingly has stock turbo setup, full decat, stock engine including head, FMIC, Apexi 4 inch intake (not a change I would have made at this level but hey), Blitz BOV, 'up-rated' FPR but from what I can see, stock rail/injectors. It does have HKS adjustable timing pulleys and the matching belt, but can't see that having such an impact on power output. Good job I got along with the previous owner fairly well after buying it, I can still ask for more info!
  6. That's what I am thinking, hence I want to get it dynoed myself. I can believe around 390, but only because that is what the dyno readout I have says. No proof of any 420 right now.
  7. Quick update, so no one thinks I have abandoned this thread after finding a solution or something... I have not yet found the solution - is the short answer. But only because the car has not given me the problem since.... so will be keeping an eye out for this issue showing up, especially as the weather gets warmer, then if it shows again, I'll change the FPR and report back here the results. Thanks for the advice thus far!
  8. Gents, Any suggestions for a good place to take the Supra for a good tune up and possibly fitting of a decent Boost Controller near Northamptonshire? Close to Liverpool could also be considered. Ideally I am thinking dyno too so I can get an up to date idea of the state of things currently and post boost controller. On a side note, the previous owner told me the car last made 420bhp when put on a dyno. Its full BPU (bar the boost controller) including FMIC, but currently at peak 0.9bar, not sure if I fully believe this number... I do have a previous dyno readout of the car and it shows 390bhp, so seeing as the previous owner could not find the one showing 420, want to see for myself! Engine does feel good and strong, and in fact I have a dyno readout of when it was standard, yet over 10 years old, and it read just over 320bhp. So its good and strong, just curious on that 420bhp figure and if it proves true, what will it put down at 1.2bar.... Dave
  9. Thanks for the advice guys. If the advice is to go with an OEM FPR thats what I am happy to do. I do not know the reason for the aftermarket one being fitted to the car, and to be honest have never fitted an aftermarket one to any of my previous cars either, so any tips are welcome. However, before I splash the cash on an OEM one from Toyota, is there anyone who would advise going with a better aftermarket one in preparation for a fuel rail and injector kit? I don't plan on purchasing or fitting for a while yet, however, I do plan on moving the power up over the next few years and if I can future proof as I go along I am happy to do so. Thanks for the advice so far guys, and don't kill any discussion on this point on account of me, as it is all insightful and useful info for both me and anyone else who might run across this thread. Dave
  10. It does smell like it runs rich at times during idle. Also, whether or not this is related I am not sure, it idles at around 1100rpm (not missing - running smooth). No idea on the AFRs at the moment. Any recommendations on the FPR? I'd like to future proof, and seeing as the previous owner did inform me it can make 'strange noises' sometimes, it was one of the things I planned on replacing anyway. My thought is replace it with a good one and it may solve this problem too.
  11. This is an intriguing comment, as the previous owner did tell me sometimes the FPR makes a strange noise (can't say i have heard it yet). So potentially it could be as simple as a faulty FPR, especially as its non standard. The mods I currently know off that may be related to this (need to do some more digging to find anything else and exact makes/models): 1) Walbro 255lph fuel pump 2) HKS F Con piggy back ECU 3) uprated FPR (not sure on the model or make at the moment) Injectors and fuel rail are standard, from what i understand the ignition system is standard, whilst it has the usual full de-cat and Blitz Nur Spec R exhaust with HKS cam pulleys and belt.
  12. When it fired with the 'misfire' it definitely was running as though it dropped a cylinder, and sounded like a scooby. Did not really have any trouble firing up at this point (2nd turn of the key - no need to hold the throttle open), just ran lumpy. The second time around, I had to hold the throttle open to get it to fire, but then ran ok (no dropped cylinders). - - - Updated - - - I haven't checked for fault codes just yet, but no warning lights etc on the car. Will be next port of call if I don't find an easy, first time fix.
  13. Gents, As perfectly as my new toy runs 99.9% of the time, I was warned by the previous owner sometimes it will have a misfire when starting when warm. Today I got my first taste of this... Been out all day enjoying the car on this sunny Bank holiday, mixture of mountain / B roads, motorway cruising and an unfortunate traffic jam in the hot sun. Didn't miss a beat. But, couple hours after getting back and the car cooling, go to start it up, and it won't start first turn of the key, second turn it fired with a misfire. Left it another couple of hours, go back out to start it up again, temp gauge reading just above cold now, and again won't start. Second turn, starts with some trouble (had to hold the throttle open) but once running, not missing a beat again. Took for a drive, pulled like a train as always. Strange, anyone got any suggestions for possibly heat soak related misfire / starting trouble? Car has new spark plugs and coil pack clips. Not looked at the packs themselves yet, so I guess next step. Curious if anyone has any experience of heat related issues. Car is BPU with HKS F Con, so curious if this could be the source of the problem. Cheers Dave
  14. Are these still available? I need to tidy up this area of my interior
  15. Seeing as I have only just bought the Supra, I know 2 choices I would have gone for at the price of my Supra had I gone another way: 1) R32 GTr Or 2) RX7 FD3S Then the if the question is '30 to 40k to spend', then the way I see it: 1) R35 GTr at 30k or just over (obviously a 2008 import) Or 2) R34 GTr Nismo / V Spec at 35k or slightly above But this is all living in my Jap favouring style, if I sit down for more than 5 minutes to think of all the cars I want at different prices, then I would be typing here all day....
  16. Thanks guys Kind of undecided... originally wanted standard bumpers with rear spats and maybe carbon diffuser/splitters. But growing to really like the Bomex front now!
  17. Hi All, Thought I would join the forum after years of looking in from the outside after finally fulfilling the dream of owning my first Supra. I've researched for many, many years, and after living in Japan for the last 6 months, I finally had enough saved for a proper toy. After driving a modified R32 GTR around Fuji Speedway, I was leaning towards one of those as I could only find auto TT's for similar price (not bashing the auto box, but as its primarily a weekend toy and I plan the odd track day, wanted a manual). Anyway, I have some cosmetic work to do to get exactly as I want, but can't fault it mechanically - just awesome... A few quick picks of my latest addition to my fleet - TT6 BPU:
