Prep. is the key. Use a plastic primer and even halfords do a petrol resistant lacquer now. Dont use normal lacquer, first sniff of petrol and it runs like a bugger!

I had an interesting chat with a copper who tried to nick me at Box Hill with a forward facing camera van whilst gently riding my bike past him:D He said I was doing 90 in a 50, so I said prove it. He couldnt:D Probably have to stick a full size plate over our visors next!
