This is what i purpose to do. Although mine will be welded rather than bolted on and my harnesses will actually be attached to it! My bucket seats are genuine recaro seats from an Evo, i doubt they would collapse but in a scenario where the impact was so hard that they did collapse i think my chances of survival would be pretty bleak anyway with a typical seatbelt.

My car is not daily driven, its used maybe afew times during the summer months when the weather is nice. Mostly to go to shows etc so the harnesses getting in the way of daily driving duties isnt an issue. What is a concern is them doing more damage than good in an accident so obviously i want them mounted correctly. Mounting a harness bar across the loop of my cage at shoulder height is fairly straightforward though
-
Thats a very good read thank you. Im surprised that they even entertain the idea of a bolt in harness bar though tbh
-
My cage is bolt in. I have come to the conclusion though that my best option is to remove the cage and weld the harness bar to it and while the cage is out im going to weld some reinforcement plates into the floor pan
-
I actually think its the complete other way around. If you put a supra shell over a prius floor pan with prius running gear to me that is still a prius just with a supra 'bodykit'
-
Well yeah, how can it not be? Lol. Anything and everything is reversible. You could super glue Citroën saxo bumpers to it but the log book would still say Toyota Supra.

I have a pair of recaros and takata harnesses in my car but want some advice about harness mounting locations. When i first installed the harnesses i mounted them into the boot on little eye bolts into existing holes but they were small and i really didnt trust them so soon removed them and mounted them into the existing rear seat belt mounting positions because i knew these were suitable to withstand the force of a potential accident however they arnt at equal distances or angles to one another and therefore i figured in a serious accident this might cause my harnesses to jolt me one way or the other and possibly damage my back. So i bought a harness bar, the main bar is very solid but the little legs that come off it are piss poor and i cant mount it properly anyway because of my cage. My idea which i am expecting to get slated for (and if thats the case i wont do it) is to buy a solid steel rear strut brace. Non adjustable and certainly not made from cheap alloy. Then attach them to that? Bad idea? Any other solutions? My only other thought would be to weld the main part of the harness bar to the cage.

So my understanding is: You suspect the headgasket has gone but are not 100% Are you losing coolant? Any milky residue on oil cap or oily film inside expansion tank? Are you getting heat through the heaters? Particularly when the car starts to over heat? How old is the rad cap? This is the cheapest and easiest thing to replace first. Have you had a sniff test done? Are there any cold points in the radiator when the engine is upto temp? Have you tried testing the thermostat by placing it in boiling water to see if it opens?

Harleys new progress blog from the start. My Na 5

These arrived yesterday, Whifbitz pulley set in anodised purple. I also received an email from driftworks where i ordered my nardi steering wheel from saying that its on order from Italy and will be with me in a couple of weeks.. the more i thought about it the more i realised how utterly pointless it was. I wasn't going to use it it the car as i didnt think a wood rim wheel would look good and besides i really like the oem wheel, so i cancelled the order and bought a brand new carbon blade TRD wing instead! -

So i got some stuff done yesterday.. Out with the old, in with the new Got my gauge cluster fitted too. Still need to run the sensor wires though and fit a sandwich plate. Will do that when i service it next in a couple of months Also spent a couple of hours using my new wax. SwissWax best of show, not particularly cheap at £60 for a tiny little pot but in my eyes it was money well spent. Been wanting a nice hard wax for a while but alway been concerned that they are too greasy. This stuff works flawlessly though. -
Supra parked up over winter (condensation problems!)

Search 'car capsule' on google. Im buying one for next winter -
I could well be wrong here and so someone may well say otherwise but I've read afew times that alot of people, particularly in the US it seems prefer the stock cams. The vast majority of aftermarket cams are adjustable which obviously has its advantages but also means that when putting large amounts of power through them could result in them slipping. The stock cams are solid and so eliminates the chance of that happening. I know 2JZ engines are non interference engines but at a guess id presume that with large enough cams you could possibly change that

So, afew small updates. I haven't actually done much other than spend money i havnt got on parts i dont need but that never bothered me before so why should i let it get in the way now? My purchases: A brand new oem manual gear surround and associated ash tray. I really, really didn't need this as there was nothing wrong with mine but it was advertised as "the last one in stock" and im quite the impulse buyer. Nevertheless brand new oem stuff is always cool. A genuine Nardi deep dish steering wheel. Wooden rim with black spokes. Will probably look shit in a supra but iv always loved the look of this wheel and so bought it anyway.. when i come to terms with it looking shit in a supra I'll probably just put it on the mantle piece, it'll look good there. (It hasnt actually arrived yet so you'll have to make do with this image) Brand new oem facelift tail lights. These were a panic purchase. I discovered they have recently been discontinued and so naturally i bought a pair straight away so to avoid fighting over the last few sets and paying anymore than the current prices (a couple years ago these were £140, but now, today, you'll have to cough up nearly double that) So thats it for the time being. I'll be getting the lights fitted tomorrow along with the manual gear surround so i will update again after that! -
Been offered a mkiv UK 2jz manual BUT with 240k miles looking for advice
HarleyFDMD replied to a topic in Supra Chat
Iv never really seen the appeal of having a UK spec car tbh.. aside from the bigger brakes theres not really anything else that would interest me. I quite like the thought of having a true JDM car. And also that once apon a time my car was maybe delivering tofu up a Japanese mountain by a man whos name i cant pronounce. -
Well fuck me. We spoke about your NA T build at Trax... 2015! I remember you saying you had afew grands worth of kit sitting in your bedroom that you were going to fit in (and i quote) "afew weeks" lol Glad to see its finally coming together mate

HarleyFDMD replied to a topic in Supra Chat
That was my intial thought but its not down to having the correct tools or equipment. Its the simple fact that getrag/toyota no longer produce the gears or syncros anymore. They have all been discontinued (to my knowledge) Therefore it doesn't matter how good of a gearbox specialist you are, if you havnt got the parts you havnt got the parts. Theres a chap called Arnout who seems to have the last of the stock. From what iv read he appears to still have all the gears and bits in stock but there will inevitably come a time where he runs out and then what? No doubt the V160s and V161s are bloody good and bloody durable but nothings indestructible, all of them will in time break. Having one thats never been driven particularly hard and has never seen more than stock power is obviously in your favour, but it having 260k on it is most certainly not. Who knows, maybe getrag will re commission the production of parts and everyone will be saved -

My biggest concern about a TT6 with that mileage would be the gearbox -
