Harleys new progress blog from the start. My Na 5
HarleyFDMD replied to HarleyFDMD's topic in mkiv Supra Projects
I have also bought a used drivers side head light which this evening i have had in the oven to separate and then make into a 'headlight intake' I did try doing it without separating it initially but there's no way it would have come out to an acceptable standard as all the debris from cutting the back of the housing falls into the headlight. Tomorrow i need to find somewhere that sells 120mm OD pipe! -

Yesterday i began stripping a few bits off the car. I like my engine bay but i dont love it and I cant quite put my finger on what it is that i dont like. Certainly some of the red accents (which weren't intentional) i will be changing, so I've bought some black silicone end caps to cover the top mounts, the oil filler cap will be either painted black or polished, the red battery wires will be wrapped in black tape and my whifbitz anti roll bar will also be painted black.. so that should get rid of all the red! I've also got rid of the gold heat reflective tape off the strut tower and im in the process of removing the lower boost pipe that comes off the bottom of the turbo because thats also going to go black. I have removed the intake pipe and strut brace and will also remove the intake manifold boost pipe and will be send them off to have re made in titanium. Some of the purple accents im going to replace with polished parts instead, like the pulleys and radiator brackets. Hopefully this will tone the colours down a little bit and tie everything in better. -

Couldn't wait till the weekend to do the bonnet prop.. Got it polished up and then burnt the bends to get that nice gold/purple/blue colour. I must say, im pretty bloody happy with it. For such an insignificant component i think it now looks mega. Photos dont really do it much justice tbh. -

Its been a minute so just figured I'd give this thread a bump. No progress as such, got a few plans in mind though. Still need to drop the gearbox and send it to Paul Cheshire.. just time and lots of money though especially as i want the billet centre casing. Billet rear diff casing is definitely a must so that will likely happen soon. Titanium bonnet prop recently purchased from Pete im looking forward to getting this polished and re burnt over the weekend. Head light intake, you know where people drill a huge hole through the head light.. i fancy giving that a go, but not on my brand new headlights lol.. need to find a good used one. Possibly a set of Blitz side skirts, carbon TRD bonnet and go back to the TRD wing, although im not 100% sure on that yet. Also.. underglow.. maybe.. dont shoot me. I've done the clean oem look for a couple of years now, i now have the itch for a bit of rice -
Big Supes' UK-Spec - The Story So Far

What power are you hoping for with 6870? I guess the stock engine will be the limiting factor. I still find it crazy that these engines will cope with 700bhp stock even after 30 years -

Ok, well I'd definitely buy that from you! -
I have a pair in reasonably good condition. They aren't mint. The leather has wrinkled a little bit across the tops of them

Mines at 1.6 bar too Probably just me being a pussy, but it took me a few days to actually dare pin the throttle until red line lol -
Love a fast and furious build! Looking forward to seeing more of this

A rubber wheel on a drill will easily remove tiger seal from paintwork. You need to cut the majority off with a razor blade and then use the rubber wheel to remove the remainder. Only use the rubber wheel against metal though. Dont use it on the bumpers or else you'll melt the plastic. The dent in that lower quarter isn't too bad. However it does look like its been rusting from the inside out (pretty common nowadays) this is a bigger problem. Great work though! -

Soooo.. have you managed to get out in it yet on a nice dry warm day? I bet you're absolutely loving it. Your car made similar numbers to mine. Trust me it doesn't get boring! -

Got a few jobs done today that I've been meaning to finish. Firstly got my transmission mount swapped out for a TRD one i bought from Chris Parry (thanks Chris).. tbh im sure im going to keep it yet though! Its considerably harder and creates quite a lot more noise through the transmission which im not exactly loving lol so might end up buying a new oem one.. I'll see if i can learn to accept it first. Then i gave my diff a fresh oil change. Been driving the car pretty hard and been doing loads of launches and burnouts so thought it would be wise to check/replace the oil. Fortunately everything seems absolutely fine. Oil came out nice and clean. and then finally i pretty much finished the jacking point i started to make on the rear drivers side. Forgot to get pictures of it after I'd smoothed the welds and epoxy'd it but I'll get some next time. -

Fresh oil change done recently. Also ordered some new diff oil too and bought a TRD gearbox mount so I'll likely get that done on Saturday. Still need to finish my jacking points too! -

To add to my already very colourful engine bay, i bought some titanium coloured mikalor clamps.. keeping with the titanium/purple theme. I'd already bought some a few weeks back but hadn't bought enough in the correct sizes. But I've now replaced all of the regular jubilee clips.. Im sure my engine bay is considered a bit marmite by people.. i fully appreciate its not the typical all polished, or all black engine bay that most people tend to do (because either of those options do look mega!) I just fancied doing something really in your face! -

Unfortunately i didn't get as long as I'd have liked working on the car this evening. I got the inner side of the sill reinforced and got the outer side reinforcement plate made but not welded on. The outer side will probably need to be double layered to bring it level with the inner as the floor either side of the sill doesn't actually sit at the same height. Meaning it'll be 6mm thick on the outer edge. Hopefully get that done tomorrow. In the meantime i gave it a thick coat of Jenolite to sit in overnight. As for 'Hockey pucks', i decided to weld 2 together.. making them 20mm Just need to get it smoothed out now. -

Next job for me is to sort out my sills. I know this is a typical problem for many supra owners. The sills end up flattened due to poor jacking over the years and mine were no exception. I haven't jacked my car up on the sills in years because they haven't been especially healthy. I use the box section as seen in previous photos I've posted. However sorting out the sills has always been something I've wanted to do (just other things previously took priority) The drivers side rear sill is the worst, it had actually been pushed upwards into the box section. So not only did it need straightening but it also needed pulling out. I bought a slide hammer and a body work pulling clamp. This did a really good job of pulling the sill straight and downwards. I completely forgot to take any photos afterwards though! Just straightening the sills was never going to be enough though, although the clamp and slide hammer did a good job, it wasn't perfect. Also at this point the sill is still weak, jacking on it again would just flatten it again and i dont want to keep jacking on the box section. So i bought some 3mm sheet steel and some 10mm steel 'hockey puks' to reinforce the area and then make a proper jacking point on the sill. I made a good start this evening but again forgot to take any photos. I'll try and get it finished Monday evening now i think. Then will have to do the other 3 corners!
