Okay so the car is a 1999 TT VVTI.
Few months ago I was driving to work when I came to a stop at the bottom of the slip road and the car cut out. Started again straight away and drove to work about half a mile away.
After my shift finished the car wouldn't start. Initially checked the spark plugs made sure they weren't wet, checked the fuel pump all was okay. Jumped the car and it started but was only running on 4 cylinders. Took the leads off and the car kept running, checked the voltage on the battery and found the alternator wasn't charging it.
Now the alternator has been refurbished, brand new battery fitted and the car still won't start at all. Double checked fuelling and getting a spark from each lead from the coil packs. It sounds like it's trying it's best and spluttering away, bit of black smoke coming from exhaust showing burning fuel (the car was running very rich initially)
Anyone had this problem before or any ideas of what else to check to rule out? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
