My Supra - Progress so far, next steps and build thread
mharvey replied to Peter P's topic in mkiv Supra Projects
WOW! I'm seriously jealous You definitely don't have to do the summersaulting I do with mine to get in and out of the door haha. Congrats mate, it really does look brilliant! -
Part 41 - Painted The Supra went to the bodyshop for repairs and paintwork, due to take 3 weeks...it took almost 3 months That being said she is at least finally back home. She looks better than she did, that's for sure haha. If I'm honest it's not the 10/10 paint-job I know the chap is capable of BUT I'm fairly happy. During the strip down you can see the lovely SRD under-trays I had fitted along with their intercooler and all the hard-pipes they did to fit it. I had the bodyshop return all the lower plastics to OEM finish black. They had been colour coded during the previous paint-job but I wasn't a huge fan. I'm much happier now however a few clips ended up broken and even some of the mounting points. £70 of Toyota clips later and a bit of Araldite and I managed to repair them quite tidily. The bodyshop reckoned they could make a tidy repair of my old fiberglass splitter but I felt it was time for a change and fancies moving away from rigid fiberglass ones. I think the new RMM style one looks great and ties in with the newly black plastics. It is a bit lower and already catches heading up my drive but it flexes so shouldn't be too much of an issue. I think the most pressing thing I need to do now is get some protection on the paintwork and the rest of the car desperately needs machine polishing (however everyone wants circa £500). I need to let the paints breathe for a few weeks supposedly anyway.

If someone has two, I'll take the other one haha

Got the stereo cage, still need the A-Pillar trims if anybody has one

Congrats, well done to all involved in making it happen

Harleys new progress blog from the start. My Na 5
mharvey replied to HarleyFDMD's topic in mkiv Supra Projects
If it helps mate, I found my old order; It was 2018 when I ordered but was only £29.99 then. Custom Brake Hose Fitting One Swivel Male - M10 x 1.00 Fitting One Angle 90° Fitting Two Swivel Male - M10 x 1.00 Fitting Two Angle 90° Support One Single Bolt Locator Support Two Rubber Grommet Length 150cm I seem to recall (with a rusty 4 year old memory) that whilst I needed the 90° for the master side, a straight would have been better at the slave? It certainly worked with 2 x 90’s but I can’t remember the orientation of the slave so have a quick look what you thinks best. -

Great progress mate. As for the line, HEL do custom ones for a very reasonable price. I also went from the master all the way to the slave (and you can even pick purple haha) I ordered 2 (the first too short) so measure twice but it was then spot one. -
Mine will be painted and should look the part by then but for me (and I'd imagine others are in the same boat); it's the cost of the weekend. Being required to be present all weekend means having to take up the hotel and eating out at a (not unsubstantial) cost. If you're local and/or don't have to take time off work though it's a great opportunity to show your car at what's probably one of the UK's most prestigious events.

MANY ECU's FAILING - ANY CLUB MEMBERS KNOW WHY?
mharvey replied to herbiemercman's topic in mkiv Technical
If you read my post mate, the SYVECS is a lot more money and considering the rest of your spec, it might be slight overkill (though depends on long term goals) I recommended the Link G4 plug and play. It's a standalone ECU and the link stuff has great support. It's also very well priced. Plus it's effectively plug and play (although you will need/want some other sensors and inputs) SRD are very familiar with fitting them and mapping them and I can certainly recommend them. Likewise Whifbitz stock them so I'm sure they can map one but I've not had any personal experience. -
MANY ECU's FAILING - ANY CLUB MEMBERS KNOW WHY?
mharvey replied to herbiemercman's topic in mkiv Technical
Herbie, that may have been the case a long time ago but there are certainly much cheaper options. A syvecs ECU will probably set you back nigh on that but you have options. But something like the Link g4 is plug and play, so no need to change wiring harness etc. It works perfectly with the NA harness and whilst you’d undoubtedly benefit from a few extra sensors it won’t cost you £6k. As a fellow NA-T owner I think you’d be well worth going stand-alone ECU both for the future proofing, diagnostics and to save you (as mentioned above, wasting money on countless stock and aged ECU’s) Speak to SRD, they supplied my Link. They’re like £1.5k. There will be fitting, mapping and some wiring for extra sensors but I’m sure you’ll get a very nice chunk of change from £6k -
I hear you mate, like I say, theres a carbon boot on the car right now...and I regret it. It doesn't fit quite as well as stock (although it is fairly good for an aftermarket part) and it makes a racket as I travel down the road. It might be lighter but on a road car that just means that it moves about more, creaks and the sound insulation properties are not a patch on a stock one. If you like Carbon I'll happily swap boots with you haha

Patience...I think it's just stubbornness or pig headedness at this stage haha. Thanks all the same Rider ! It has been said Thanks man ! It's been a long road but the engine bay is definitely the best bet. One day I want to spray the bay etc to really set it off. Thanks for reading ! Love the stock wing so that's a no and as for the carbon bonnet it's a no from me too. I have a carbon boot and ideally want to swap back to a stock one. It's cool and with the weave showing through i's a great talking point but it creaks a little and what not. Thanks for the suggestions though mate and for taking the time to read

Part 40 - Broke her...in a different way... I thought I'd keep updating this thread. As per the title, she's broken again but not in keeping with the rest of this thread... As anyone who's followed will know, getting the car running properly has, at times most of the time, seemed unachievable...UNTIL it went to SRD that is. I'm not one to 'fanboy' and blow smoke up anyone's proverbial but honestly I couldn't be happier so far. The car has been running flawlessly since Mike's wiring fix. As a result I've made a list of bits I want to tidy up / upgrade and planned to slowly chip away at them with no particular rush; This broken light in the boot has always bothered me, it was just never high on the list of priorities. I'd upgraded the sidelights to facelift ones some 7 years ago but never retrofitted the 3rd bolt meaning a 'sag' that bugged me so much, but again, getting the car running had previously been the priority. Looks much better, I even fitted orange bulbs back in which give a slight glow and looks much better in my opinion. It's not just me that's been enjoying the car either, despite it being pretty damn loud; this little guy seems to find it quite comforting and it's one of the few places he actually bloody calms down I've been so pleased with the car that I treated it to a new pressure washer, snow foam cannon etc and gave it some long awaited loving. I've been keeping it nice and clean but using it regularly too. Then every night it gets tucked up safe and sound in the garage....or so I thought. - See this is where it all went wrong. Tucked away safely, when, one random weekday my other half gets awoken by an ALMIGHTY crashing sound. She feared someone was breaking in to the garage and checked outside to find all was quiet and peaceful. - Fast forward to the weekend where it was a good friends wedding and I decided to take the Supra as the weather was glorious. I opened the garage to discover; So this rather heavy and rather full cupboard decided to take a break from hanging on the wall. It had been up 12 months and just decided enough was enough. Unfortunately the Supra didn't sufficiently break it's fall and the poor cupboard ended up broken... It did a significant amount of damage to the wing and bonnet of the Supra too, photo's don't do it justice as there are multiple creases in the bonnet. As you can just about see here, the crease at the top is the worst but there are a number of creases and dents lower down. So I'll leave it there for now. I'm already making headway with sorting this disaster out and will hopefully be able to report back in the next couple of weeks but I really do think my ownership of this car is cursed sometimes. Onwards and upwards eh...I've come too far to do anything else.

Awesome, I love an RSP. Glad to see it's finally getting some love and attention. Look forward to the updates Good luck!!!

I'll come to this on the Saturday ! I will book tickets in the next few days. I assume I'll need 2 x Adult 'Saturday Only' vehicle display for driver and passenger, even though I'm only displaying 1 car . Then I'll be squashing the 2 kids in the back of the supra too so will get a couple of child tickets

I absolutely love my Supra despite having ultimately never had trouble free motoring with it. After circa 8 years I'm finally there. Running 800hp through a v161 and it's fantastic and works as it should!! SO WHY do I keep considering selling it?!?! I think the one thing holding me back is knowing that compared to what it's cost and compared to what I'd want next, I'd get very little for it. I think the other thing holding me back is that any of the replacements I want will inevitably depreciate where as at least with the Supra I'm unlikely to lose more than I already have

Had my gearbox built by Paul, he showed me through every step and the after-sale support has been spot on. I've also spoken to him about the underside of mine. Another recommendation for sure
-
I have the wheels with the same ET. I can't help on the UK although I'm sure I researched at the time and read they would fit. I'm not sure how LS400's or the K-Sport's compare but I've had both and can confirm that both fit under with no issue
-
This looks absolutely ridiculous If I find a large sum of money under a rock somewhere I want to make mine look like this now....and to think I was content with Red haha

I recently bought some new kit myself (for a new Nilfisk admittedly) but the principle is the same and the kit can be bought with adaptors for whichever pressure washer. I bought; A Pro-Kleen snow foam lance Then used Autoglym Polar Blast for a snow foam (I bought Polar wash by accident first time, don't do that) It went on really thick, I was impressed! I then ended up buying a 'stubby gun'. https://www.slimsdetailing.co.uk/products/stubby-trigger-gun-nozzle-kit I doubt it makes a difference to the snow foam however it makes it much easier to use as I found it all a bit cumbersome with the bottle on the standard gun so to speak It really is a nice thing whether snow-foaming or just using the various jets. Good for cleaning in arches and underside too.
