  1. I'm still having a knocking noise problem with my 98 VVTi tiptronic TT. I've had the engine and gearbox out, swapped the engine and reused the existing gearbox and torque converter. When first pulling away it makes a horrible racket. (Video clip here) Once moving it drives fine. It seems to be a bit worse if pulling away and turning at the same time, eg at a juction. Things that may or may not be relevant: Before the blown engine was removed the car was towed about half a mile at low speed, no more than 30mph. The propshaft was removed and refitted without marking the relative rotational position to the gearbox and rear axle, so it's most likely not back on it the same position. Is that important? Gearbox oil has been replaced. All nuts, bolts and engine/gearbox mounts are secure. Thanks for any help.

In a nutshell, yeah. I know it's temping to save a few quid but honestly tyres isn't the best area to skimp on. Evil handling heavy tyres with piss poor wet performance could end up costing you a lot. [/lecture]

A lot of these cheaper make tyres are made by firms that are owned by major companies. Sava is owned by Continental. That's not saying Ceat is made by Pirelli in the Pirelli factory, just that the Pirelli company owns a large share of the Ceat company. These kind of tyres are invariably made of lower quality rubber and will not last anywhere near as long as a premium make. Also they're often much heavier and generally lower tech than a premium tyre.
  4. Shouldn't that be 245/45/16 on the rear?

    How expensive?

    That'll be the price
  6. Something one of the teachers wrote, loosely based on Cluedo. It was pretty good actually, considering it was done by a load of 10 year olds.
  7. I wish. I've been to my daughter's school play (Two hours!) then for a meal, then a quick pint in the pub before closing time. Came home - no beer in! I'm sat here drinking neat tonic water at the mo. It's the only cold drink in the house besides milk. What you been up to tonight then Sabrina?
  8. Lovedean! I'm walking distance from there, in Cowplain. Do you know the Spotted Cow pub? My house is just behind there. Edit, You're talking about Lovedean in Hampshire, right?
  9. It doesn't, does it? I never wear a seltbelt so I wouldn't know but I've never heard(read) it mentioned before.
  10. Is it to do with the "Somebody hasn't got their seatbelt on" red flashing warning light by the Odometer?
  11. That's amazing! How did you guess his "95 RZ TT" with a clutch was a six speed? Any tips for lottery tomorrow, oh Mystic Martin? Simon Apparently uprated clutches and/or lightened flywheels often make a rattle when the the clutch pedal is down. Mine does it too. I was told it's something to do with 'push' type clutches rather than the stock pull type ones (or was it the other way around?) Anyway, that and a lightened flywheel, which causes the gearbox to rattle, make for a noisy old drivetrain.
  12. One out of six ain't bad.
  13. http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZtrac-artQQhtZ-1 Oh dear. It's seems like his other auctions have been removed! What a shame.
  14. See post number 15 in this very thread.
  15. I was considering taking my car for a day's mapping at Trac-Art but I think I'll take it somewhere else now that I've seen what a bunch of con-men they are. Still, it's only about a grands worth of business they've lost. I hope they enjoy the £15 they stole from our friend.

  19. Who is the penalty taker for the Argies?
  20. Good call 0-0 is 8.6 on Betfair. That's low, it's usually like 10.0 for nil nil Might have a tenner on that myself.
  21. I'm betting on Germany. Home advantage counts for so much in the big competitions.
