Sounds like the viscous fan may have seized. You should be able to spin the fan fairly freely by hand when the engine is turned off. If you can't the coupling has seized (not uncommon). This makes the car idle rough and wastes fuel. When the engine is ticking over you should be able to gradually slow the fan to a stop with your fingers. If you try it but it cuts your fingers off then it's definitely seized There are no serviceable part inside the coupling. A new visous coupling is 226 +vat -- well it was that much two years ago when I needed one. The car ran much better after I replaced the coupling though.

What do you mean by "the numbers aren't adding up"? You've found both the fuse boxes right? On the inside of each fuse boxes cover is a diagram (kinda) saying what eash fuse is for. There isn't an Air Con fuse iirc but there is a relay for magnetic clutch on the AC compressor. Why are you looking for these fuses? What problem do you have?

No, what is it? Hard to say, seems like it's external (not inside the box) I thought it was from the front of the propshaft at first but it looks like it's fitted correctly and I don't think a propshaft would go bad just from not being used for a while. I did try that but couldn't reproduce the fault/noise.
