  1. It's good here, isn't it ! Thanks Scotty.
  2. Will do, John. Jem's laptop cost me £508 so it's worth a shot. I hope they come with decent instructions and don't need special tools.
  3. That looks like just the thing! Thank you.
  4. My Jemma has broken her laptop screen - well, obviously she didn't break it, it was just like that when she opened the laptop lid today. The glass is cracked right across and the screen has large blank/black areas. It's a Dell 'Studio 1555', about 2 months old, so parts shouldn't be a problem, I guess. Anyone know if these have to go back to Dell for a new screen or can a regular PC repair shop get these parts? Any idea on ballpark price? Thanks
  5. By an old fart like you?
  6. Lots of us longer-standing members have already bagged our real names as our forum IDs*, so not everyone can have their actual name. "Cliff" is still available though. It's the ones like AxeMurderer666 or HadesBeast or somesuch rock'ard moniker that make me wonder. *Not that Jake is my real name, 'tis just a nickname 'cos my surname is Jacobs.
  7. I dunno about them being sound deadening but you can certainly remove them safely without upsetting the suspension at all. Take one off and you'll see what I mean. (Edit: Oops, Just realised you already have) I'm not sure you'll notice any benefit from a reat strut brace, to be honest, but that's not your question.
  8. will do mate. Why Transport 55? You're #56 aintcha ?
  9. Oooo that's nasty mate, glad you're ok. I've just shown the pics to all the guys on the Bridge; JD, Guy, Martin G, Salty, etc
  10. True, true. Many of the Scotch are the biggest racists you'll ever meet. Doesn't stop thousands of them coming down here to work and live. While still banging on about how lovely Scotland is and how patriotic they are, of course.
  11. If there is, Col, it ain't from my taffy grandad. Apparently the leek-muncher knocked-up my grandma during the war and then pissed off back to the valleys denying everything after he got the 'happy news'. Bloody Taffs, they come over here, steal our jobs, shag our women. We should send them all back home. etc.
  12. That's a sore point. I recently discovered that my maternal grandfather was ... welsh! Seriously, it was quite a shock. Let us never speak of it again.
  13. 36 times? He could film it all night and not get the right number.
  14. Perhaps he would refuse to go and then sue the Army because it's against his religeon to kill people. The police are the worst for swinging the lead though. Some of things they have extended sick periods off work for are amazing.
  15.  Sure you have. Seeing as you've been offered over 25k for yours but don't want to sell it, why don't you put the prospective buyer onto this car, which has been for sale for months at less than 14K? Unless you're a complete fantasist of course.
  16. You're right, that is an OE facelift spat, definitely not Veilside.
  17. TDR's (ex)car is a bit unusual because it is an auto with a high-stall torque converter, so it gets off the line much quicker and therefore gets into its stride earlier which means it makes a better ¼mile top speed and time than its power would otherwise achieve. ------------------- As for the rest of the thread; we've been here before... Scene One: Dyno Operator gives his satisfied customer an optimistic flywheel power figure. Scene Two: Customer starts quoting this figure to all and sundry, but now claims it as rwhp (making the original inflated-a-bit figure truly ridiculous.) Scene Three: Forum bunfight ensues. If it has the stock 440cc injectors and FPR, Billy Bhoy's car cannot make 447hp@Flywheel. It is physically impossible for a 6 cylinder turbo engine to make more than 415hp with this fuelling setup because 440cc/min injectors cannot flow enough fuel to make >415hp. Of course, people always believe that their car is "a good'un" and/or that it was mysteriously tweaked to some unknown spec by a previous owner - which is apparently why it can bend the laws of physics and is able to extract significantly more power from the injected fuel than is mathematically possible. But Hey, who cares? Just enjoy the car and its power. It's been running this setup for several years without an issue. So it seems to be running OK. ------------------- ps, IMO ¼ miles times are not a good indicator of power but ¼ top speed is. (I believe TDR and many others agree). Good ¼ times are very dependant on the 60' times, the top speed less so.
  18. But you aren't legal on the road if you aren't displaying a valid tax disc.

    Timing belt

60k miles or 5 years, whichever is first.
  20. Blimey that's a stretch. Fwiw I think they're all tall tales but I wouldn't say any of them were impossible.

    Timing belt

Only that it might leave you stranded somewhere. Oh, also when the belt breaks the engine will stop (duh) which will mean no Power Steering; this might prove interesting if it happened approaching highspeed bend. Just change it, you tightwad!
  22. Is it a WRT54GR ? They are shit! I've also got a WRT54GR and it drives me mad. I have to reboot the damn thing about once an hour or my (20meg) broadband slows down so much that web pages take ages to load. Be careful to get exactly the right firmware if you're going to attempt to upgrade it. There are two different versions of the WRT54GR - you don;t want to flash it with the wrong one or you might brick your router. I tried to flash mine anyway cos if I cant fix the fucking thing I'm going to defenestrate it. Sadly the flashing failed to do anything. Ignore all the above if yours isn't a WRT54GR !
  23. Detector Vans are a myth. Always have been. Nope, the TV has to be powered solely by its own internal battery/batteries. They don't miss a trick, do they! Still, why should students get away with not paying when the rest of have to? What's this got to do with cars anyway?
