Why are the new ones water-cooled then Dave? Is it just the centre cartridge that's cooled? I presume that's where the bearings are on a DBB, is it?

Well, a single turbo gets mega hot. It's not sited as low as the stockers and it doesn't have the same heat shielding as the stockers. It's nearer the bonnet and other important items like the throttle cable, brake fluid reservoir, etc. The heat from a single can blister the paint on your bonnet.

Cool. The guide I'm reading at the moment says you have to disable Instant Rewind before doing this swap. I didn't do that, I just unplugged the Sky+ box. Do you think it matters?

The HDD is my Sky+ box has started making a horrible noise. It's the poxy little one that can only store about 20 hours of programs so I thought I might as well have a bash at upgrading it to a newer and bigger one. Anyone here done this already? I'm sure there's How To guides on the net for this but thought I'd ask here for real life experiences too.

The map for the sequential system is very different to what you'd want for a single. Mapping a piggyback around the area where the stock second turbo comes on-line to make it suit a single turbo is what I was referring to.

The problem with piggybacks is that they are constantly fighting the stock map. With a good stand-alone you're starting anew. If you can get the stand-alone mapped right it will be better than a piggyback - but getting it to that stage is not cheap. Neither is buying a good standalone. I have the Motec M600 but the ECU and associated sensors etc will cost you over 2k just for the hardware. It's not a cheap game this.

You're wrong on both counts there matey. He says "Two Jay Zee" not "Two Jay Zee Eee" and there's loads of aerotop TTs 6sp NAs with the Getrag do exist. They're not common but were made.
