Owned the 3 MPS (Mk 1) and currently own the Focus (Facelift Mk 2).
The MPS is a decent car, well spec'd for the price (Bose sound system is great). It's quick enough for what it is but like most stock turbo car's it runs out higher up the rev range.
What i didn't like about it was the crashy ride and the handling in general. The faults about them are well known about - turbo seals are prone to go, VVTi actuators etc.
It has loads of space and a massive boot and is ideal for moving stuff or animals.
I have the focus just now and would recommend it over the MPS in pretty much every department as an every day car. MPG wise, on the commute I averaged 32mpg in the Mazda and approximately 27-30mpg in the Focus - mixture of Motorway, A and B roads.
