    I thought the heater hoses are all part of the main water system?

    Ive been thinking that if coolants not getting to the thermostat then its not going to open to let the coolant through the rest of the engine. Is it possible to take one of the heater hoses off and poor water in from the top to enable it to come into contact with the thermostat?

    I have this same problem. Dont fancy putting the cat on just for an MOT. Will it definately not pass without one?

    Ok mate thanks for your help much appreciated. I will test the stat tomorrow and have another ago at filling the system.

    Yeah I was just thinking if I test it and it pops open then it still can work. But I meant if I get a new stat do they usually come with gaskets?

    Ok i'll try this sounds like it could work. Do I need to replace any gaskets?

    Yeah ive been running the engine and its getting hot but the rad is full so I cant put any more in. Can I take the top rad hose off the rad and poor water in from this side?

    Yeah its a brand new srd rad. The heaters in the car are cold. Didnt look at the temp gauge in car i'll have a look next time mate.

    Also I forgot but I removed the electrical plug from the small aux fan as its constantly on for some reason. That shouldnt effect the stat should it?

    It should open if the engines getting hot is what I thought. Also I opened the rad cap when I saw the steam start coming out the overflow and as you can imagine I got a hot water founting! But the water wernt boiling just hotish. Dunno if this helps

    Can the thermostat get stuck closed? As I havent had water in the system for about 3 months.

    Having problems bleeding the radiator mate I just cant seem to get water in the engine. Tried everything and no joy

    Right so I just jacked the front end up about 20cm and started the car with all the heating on, rad cap off and squeezing the hell out of the pipes but nothing. Bottom rad pipe still cold but alot of steam coming out the top of the radiator after a few minutes. Top water neck and water pump are too hot to touch.

    Thanks guys, i'll let it cool and drain out and fill slowly with the front jacked up. Do I need the engine running when filling? Also I have no overflow bottle at the moment just the overflow pipe coming off the rad.

    Can I just jack the front up a few inches? I just read another method to put the heater on in the car to hot and full and squeeze the 2 pipes going to the matrix. Would this work?

    I took the radiator out completely and just let the coolant run out.

    Its like there is no coolant in the bottom rad hose what so ever like it just stops at the bottom rad outlet....
