  1. Oh really, that makes me very tempted to upgrade my N/A's brakes to UK spec, Can you go to a Toyota dealer to do that? And sorry to derail the thread slightly, if I'm just doing General road use and occasional track days is it worth going for a Brembo brake kit over a UK spec Supra set of brakes?

Ah well I might go and take a drive over to halfords and have a look for a good ratchet set and torque wrench
  6. cheer's buddy Any specific makes of tools I should be looking out for? From my limited knowledge, I know snap on tools are some of the best (and most expensive?) :| Also if I want to do work under the car work, is it best to get a ramp, or just use Axel stands?

Right so now I'm starting to look at what sort of tools I need to work on my Supra, I know I need some sort of Engine crane, so at some point soon I can drop the engine and replace the core plugs on the car. But I'm wondering what else I need. I'm guessing a good ratchet set and torque wrench is a must, and also some sort of ramp to raise the car up, or is it best to just go with Axel stands all round? So could someone recommend me some essential and good quality, but reasonably price tools so I can start looking after my car myself, rather having to take it to the garage everytime something goes wrong or theres something I want done to the car, thanks for any help in advanced.
  8. Ah really? Hmmm interesting, so its right on the front of the engine behind everything basically yeah? I shall try and look at that at some point, really I'm just hoping the rad weld will hold until I have the time and money to buy the tools I need to drop the engine and then do the job properly.

Unfortunately this is my problem, which have stated in the thread already, but EVERYONE has seemingly missed, I did indeed read, take in and understand exactly what everyone has been saying, that taking the engine out and replacing them all is the best thing to do, unfortunately, I've just had the clutch done and have only just purchased the car, and do not have the facilities or the skill to do such a job. I would happily accept help from you tubbytwo if you want to help me change the core plugs and drop the engine? But unfortunately I don't have the facilities to do this.
  10. Little update *wipes brow* I purchased some rad weld, ran it through the system yesterday and it's done it's job, thank god! But I will be getting that one replaced at some point soon, also does anyone know of possibly a guide on how to get the top section of the engine so I can get to the core plugs, and how many there are? I could see three on the passengers side of the engine. Or if not how much would it cost for a garage to do it? Although that to me would be a last resort.

Ok if a new set of core plugs is recommended, you can't really get to them particularly easily, and I'm no mechanic, along with I have no access to a lift to get the engine out of the car, plus with something like that I wouldn't even know where to start, does anybody know someone in the essex area who could do such a job for me? I have a local garage that could probably do it, but I suspect it will cost an arm and a leg. Speaking of which does anyone know how much it would cost including labour to have all the plugs replaced? Also from what I know, radweld is designed to find any cracks or holes in the cooling system and seal them, instead of possibly blocking up the rad or something like that. and cheers for all the help so far chaps, much appreciated

Right simple question I know, but basically after having my clutch go and finally repaired yesterday and all working well, I've just had the car piss anti freeze all over the work carpark, think I've found the issue appears to be coming from the core plug closest to the front of the engine, a friend of mine said its possible for this to be fixed with some radweld? Anyone else got any other suggestions? Or would radweld be the best thing?

  14. Right so I got around to taking the top cover for the cambelt off and from what I can see and with my limited knowledge the cambelt looks in good nick. thought I would post a couple of pictures, so other people could give me there opinions as well

Thanks mate, the guy I purchased it from said it has been done, I'm just wondering if when I say cambelt he maybe thinks I mean the auxilary belt, but I will check the belt tomorrow, and go from there, shall let you guys know what I find out, I think I might actually post a picture on here as well, to get your expert opinion
  17. How would I know if my engine is Non VVTi? Also just so I'm doubly sure, could someone show me a picture of the top cam belt cover, and also how should I go about taking it off? Many thanks for all your help so far everyone
  18. Cheers for the advice so far guys, the whole lot on the receipt I have for the timing belt was £120 I think ex VAT does that sound about right? Think I will have a look under top cam belt cover tomorrow, what should I be looking for to tell if the belts on its last legs?
  19. Ok I've just realized, is the top cam belt cover, the bit with toyota 3000 at the front of the engine? I would have edited my last post and put this in, but didn't want someone to miss this
  20. Oh that's interesting, ok excuse my noobness here, but how can it be non interface? I understand the concept, but surely you have to have the valves near the pistions? and again apologies for the noobness but which part is the top cambelt cover? Also I was quoted from my local garage (which I have the work booked in for this monday coming) quoted me around £300 which is £80 for the cambelt kit £150 for labour + VAT. Does that sound about right? And thanks very much for the quick post

Hi again everyone After my other thread detailing the woes I have had with my N/A supra's Clutch (basically needs a new one) I'm now also thinking replacing the cambelt on the car, as I'm not totally sure if its ever been done, I have a receipt for the timing belt, but I'm assuming on this they mean the auxiliary belt? As the belt was £43 and labour came to just £70 so far the car has done a mixture of Km and Miles and reads 82,000 miles. Hence why I am slightly cacking myself if the cambelt hasn't been done, I know its relatively cheap to by N/A engines if the cambelt did go, but I have no idea who I could get to fit a new engine, as I doubt I could do it myself unfortunately unless there's some sort of guide. So basically... HELP!

Ok cheers boys, I shall indeed go with an Toyota Clutch then, cheers for the advice Nic, and yeah I know now it wasn't me spinning the wheels, just that over revving sound you get when the clutch slips made me think it could be, and maybe I didn't think clutch because I was in denial D: doubt I could do it actually spin the wheels in 3rd and 4th actually with an N/A supra. Thanks Noz, should get it sorted soon, shall let you guys know how it goes Thanks very much for your help

Yeah I am thinking about a better one from whifbitzperformance tuning, I had a quote from a local garage they said £505 inc parts and labour, but I'm guessing thats for a bog standard OEM/Toyota Clutch. As the clutch was about £300 and labour around £200. Yeah it was slipping in at least 3rd and 4th, as I was going down the motorway and it started slipping, although I stupidly thought it was the wheel's spinning (it was very wet when I was driving ) just wish I had realized that the slipping was the clutch going. I thought it was the Clutch, but thanks for the confirmation Noz

Hi guys, joined the forum's a little while ago on advice of a friend before I purchased a Supra, and just over two weeks ago I got one. this one to be precise - had it little over a week when I was driving home from taking a friend for a ride in it and bam completely lost drive, just the engine spinning like it was in neutral when I put my foot down, and for the couple of days previous I had a weird feeling whenever I was putting the car into gear, so I'm assuming the clutch has gone, (but I'm no expert) as far as I can see there's no hydraulic fluid leak, and now the car is sitting on my drive, I can put my foot down on the clutch now and it doesn't feel the same as it did before, not completely soft, but not as solid as before, and I can put the car into gear while the engine is running and nothing, so just wonder what all you knowledgeable people think it might be? Obviously I know the best way to find out is to take the gearbox off and look at it, but alas I am unable to do that, I'm also not really clued up enough to be able to do something like that. So I thought I'd ask on here before I go spending £400 or so on a new clutch, also if I'm not doing anything to the engine, would it be a waste going for a slightly uprated competition clutch? Even if I'm just thinking of getting the clutch to last a bit longer?
