  1. Cheapest TT near me is over 5k, my car was only 2k, would I really spend 3k on installing the GTE? :O
  2. The full list of included parts is on the ebay listing, I just mentioned the main ones, my bad lol, I'm pretty sure it includes everything needed though, it was just more of a question of the engine being legit? And decent, does £1400 sound cheap for a working GTE? "/
  3. OK! The time has come for me to finally turbo my sup. After some research on the intertwebbb, it seems I have 2 main options 1. Buy a NA-T turbo kit, which is VERY expensive (£5000+) ouch 2. Buy a used 2JZ GTE engine and swap it for my GE engine I never really gave the 2nd option much thought because I thought that the GTE engine would be really expensive, but I was on ebay and had a look at GTE's for sale and the prices were rather cheap :O I seen quite alot of GTE's with 25k - 35k miles on them with the ECU, full wiring looms etc going for just above $2000 (£1400ish) which is alot cheaper than the turbo kits etc But as with alot of things this seems to good to be true... im waiting to find out the catch about why they are so cheap? Or is that really the price for the working engine. Obviously the engine would need to be installed into my car, which is fine - a trusted and experienced mechanic would know what he is doing, and I would have the cash for the labour etc. So does anyone have any insight to this? Would this be a sensible way to go turbo? (twin turbo infact! haha) btw... This is the engine I was looking at, the feedback looks good, and the engines come with a 30 day warranty which is...a Little peace of mind I guess http://www.ebay.com/itm/JDM-Toyota-Aristo-2JZ-GTE-Engine-Auto-Transmission-2JZGTE-Supra-ECU-Igniter-/251037494446?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a73002cae&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/2JZ-GTE-DOHC-Twin-Turbo-Engine-only-Toyota-Aristo-94-/190423812182?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c5624c856&vxp=mtr
  4. i purchased an alternator from ebay and it came in the post yesterday - i took it upto the garage and it wasnt compatable, the connector on the new one had three pins in the socket with a kind-of triangle allignment - however the alternator that i need uses a socket with 3 pins parallel to each other i am in the process of returning the un-compatable alternator but im frustrated that i'm going to have to wait even longer to get my baby back :[ i was going to buy this used one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1997-SUPRA-MK4-MARK-4-N-A-ALTERNATOR-GENERATORR-/370563649963?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item56475091ab but i wasnt sure if: 1. - it would be compatible, or 2. wether its genuinly working... is there any where else (ideally a company that specialises in imported cars) that will have the exact alternator i need? help is greatly appreciated, (p.s - appologies for my bad spelling haha)
  5. my car is an automatic, it is a non turbo i'll try and have a look when i can, cheers for the info guys (y)
  6. my car is currently at the garage so i cant have a look at my earth points just now, but i will - thanks for the info if it helps any more, my car does make a strange noise when starting from cold but it disapears when the engine temperature is normal... sort of like a whining noise, ball bearing maybe? a rattling noise whem i turn my steering wheel aswel - although i think this is a seperate problem with the power steering pump
  7. I was driving along one night, and out of no-where - my battery light, cat light, and my hazzard light in the tachomter gauge came on. i wasnt sure what was causing the problem but i had a feeling it was somthing to do with the power due to the battery light i ignored the light as i had to do some small journeys in the car, and on my way to a friends house, a car flashed me, and i didnt recognise the car, so i knew somthing wasnt right... it was then that i noticed my headlights were not on, so i pulled over and tried to turn them on but they were just flickering off and on, then my radio kept turning on and off, and my fan stopped blowing, this was when i knew the car was losing power. i turned my car off and tried to start it but the car just "ticked" (the battery was obviously dead by this point), so i had to tow the car back home... i charged my car's battery overnight and it started fine, i drove it to a garage and they tested the voltage of the battery and the garage said my alternator was broken. however - after having a look on the forum - it appears the previous owner of my car had a brand-new alternator fitted just 2 years ago, which puzzles me as to why the alternator has broken already? could it be something else? the belts? the battery? the garage tested my alternator and told me that the alternator did not look that old - and that possibly - due to the car being an import - that the replacement alternator wasnt giving out a high enough output (telling me that imported supras use an alternator with a higher output) they also qouted me £240 excluding VAT for a new alternator, which i think is a little expensive - the genuine toyota alternator is £170 inluding VAT really dont know what to do , hlep me out forum!
  8. well that doesnt sound re-assuring so i might give that £30 unit a miss, lol ive just had a look behind the dashboard from the footwell and i can see the speed converter, its a "SpeedM8" and it is connected to a number of wires :[ cringe im not too confident in mucking about with these cables myself, not sure if they are soldered in, plugged in, or even where they run to, so i think im just going to take it to a garage that specialises in that kind of stuff :[ hello over-priced labour! meh
  9. so my speed converter is fried! :[ owel, i'll probably just go for one of the £30 ones off of ebay, or should i avoid them? thanks for all the info btw real helpfull!
  10. OK I never got a chance to look for the fusebox lastnight but my OD light is now flashing so it has to be the speedo cable that everyone is talking about, my mileage isn't going up which is a little worrying... Are the KPH to MPH converter kits expensive?
  11. Did You get yours fixed? I'll have a look at the interior fusebox tonight, hopefully a simple fuse will fix things fingers crossed anyway haha
  12. Thanks Dave - I'll look after her don't you worry!
  13. I started my car this morning, it was very frosty, the car started fine and then I seen a spark coming from the drivers footwell, then I smelt burning, after driving I noticed my speedo was not working Is it possible it could be a fuse? Because my supra has been converted from KPH to MPH so it probably is the speedo converter, but I don't want to take my dash apart haha
  14. Thanks for the welcome guys (& girl lol ) I'll keep yous all updated with any changes to suki etc anyone recomend something I can check out in the meantime?
