  1. As per picture, I am sure I understand how the buttons are meant to work however my AC doesn't seem to be blowing cold despite the shop saying it's blowing freezing for them when they run it. So I'll just rattle off what I think is what and if I'm wrong someone stop me( I should have done this at the garage..). Pink - Temperature selection and fan speed Green - All fans/AC OFF Red - AC on/off Blue - air flow directional control Yellow - defrost options Orange - cabin circulation or draw-in from external vents When I turn AC on, the white box labelled "Auto" has the green LED above the fan icon come on and the fan speed dial goes to "Hi" setting. Is this intended? I can manually turn the fan speed down, and the AC green LED stays on, but at whatever fan speed, it doesn't seem to get cold to any noticeable point. Also, the orange box..I always assumed with vehicles that if you prefer the temperature outside the cabin, then you have the air draw in from outside. When you like the temperature and want it to remain constant, you switch to cabin circulation. ? Are Supra AC units particularly poor at reducing temperature quickly or? Maybe I'm a bit spoiled but, more than a minute is taking too long to get at least some drop in temperature.
  2. Yes the brakes would be hot, but they are not overly hot - not racing/track hot. But since I've only been driving it a few miles a day, I don't think the brakes get used enough to start smoking or seem so hot it's obvious. Bodilx, you now that could be wishbone related. You're sure it's from the rear only? And it happens when applying the brake?
  3. It's hard to say if the 'ssss ssss' sound comes from the rear or the front. I'm trying to get others to drive it around so I can hear from outside the car too. I'm almost resigned to the idea that it might be large pads but, I like your idea as someone outside of the forums mentioned that parking break shoes might be the culprit to some degree. Also I previously mentioned a knock, pop sound and how it could be wishbone bushings. That's probably what I experience when doing three point turns but the brake popping happens when I'm slowing down from a moderate 20 miles an hour, and lightly hold the brake pedal in a fixed position till the car stops. From the front to the rear of the vehicle I can hear a pop, pop, pop almost in a very even tone. Unfortunately when I took it to the mechanics and drove one of them around, it NEVER happened(except when I left the house on the way to the mechanics..go figure). This popping thing has become my obsession now. ;/ Time for a second opinion.
  4. Yes, I am hoping it's not a stuck caliper. Now the popping noise when applying the brake at lower speeds or creeping forward is getting more frequent and more audible. Someone told me it was the bushings down underneath but I don't know. Think I might take it elsewhere for a second opinion if it comes to that.
  5. I don't think 'anti-squeal' shims were fitted, but it's definitely reduced the screech. The brakes I thought were 2pot. I haven't had it off here at my place, and I haven't been under it at the shop to see what exactly is going on. I thought it might be caliper related, but none of the wheels have felt noticeably warm nor do I get any burning smell. I'll keep an eye and nose out while I test my pad theory. Should I decide to give up and just replace them, what's a UK assembly cost these days?
  6. Hi gentleman, Just to point out, I think there may be some misunderstanding here. I am not after the vanity mirror/sun visors on the roof of the cockpit(internally). Maybe saying 'sun visor' was the wrong thing. I'm actually looking for things like this : http://www.drmventurestrading.co.uk/ekmps/shops/drmventures/images/metallic-foil-car-sun-visor-assorted-colours--641-p.jpg http://img.alibaba.com/img/pb/075/374/372/372374075_959.jpg But more specifically for MKIV, rather than a generic one that's too small. Holly
  7. Hi gentleman, thank you. When I have a chance to get under it, or take it in, I will mention this to them. I am hoping it's just a new thick/oversized pad rubbing and will wear itself down in a few weeks. Holly
  8. I've had some brake work done on a 95 TT recently for the purpose of fixing a screech at low speeds(was a shimming issue, had to machine it down after new pads were replaced), it still has an odd sound that seems brake related[EDIT after testing again, most assuredly sounds like the brakes]. This is going to be a hard sound to describe. Imagine a rock grinding wheel(old style, not a modern machine) for sharpening blades that goes in a circular motion and as the wheel goes around against the blade, or a sprinkler system, or the effect noise you hear when they advertise Santa's sleigh bells (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibnJVjw27OQ) but not so POPPY and not as fast; It's more of a slow "sssss sssss sssss" sound, but not as fast as if you'd blown a head gasket. But in short, the "ssss sssss" sound is like if something metal or similar to metal was spinning, and another metal piece was just barely rubbing up against the rotating metal piece. It's most noticeable when driving by a wall where the sound reverberates. And until today I hadn't heard any difference when applying the brakes. Unfortunately now when applying the brakes at any moderate speed or higher(20+) the sound becomes even more pronounced and obvious. The shop keeps telling me they can't hear it, even when they go on a 'test drive.' Brakes 'feel' fine, and respond ok for JDM. It's probably the pads, possibly because they are new but what worries me is the thought that the sound means maybe the pad IS really stuck or worse, the disc is damaged in someway and slowly grinding away whenever the vehicle is in motion. Probably not a MKIV specific issue, but thoughts are welcome. Note: I have a set of 17" non factory wheels which seem to be in appropriate balance and fitted properly. However I suppose it's possible there's an offset issue, maybe inside of wheel is hitting control arm? I don't have the option to look and take care of this stuff myself anymore, so a lot of it is guess work for now. Thanks, Holly
  9. Ok will do that if necessary. Didn't think you could still get accessories through a dealer for such an old vehicle.
  10. Hello, I have yet to hear back from Keron and assuming that route does not work, I looked into sourcing from Toyota. I am having trouble identifying an actual website where I can order(or at least find an address to mail away/catalogue) for the product. Did you mean a Toyota spares and parts dealer or Toyata themselves? Please advise.
  11. Where I can get a windshield sun visor(fold away type) specifically to fit the width of a Supra?

    best insurer

Unfortunately performance vehicle insuring has three demons: A)Bad and lacking databases. You'll quote on a MKIV Supra and they give you a price for a Supra with a 2995cc engine. Guess they thought you wanted an MKIII. B)The lack of experience by their reps and under-writers. They ask you if the Supra is a "FI or SZ". I guess they mean fuel injected. Apparently they think some MKIV were not fuel injected, and additionally can only be SZ - not RZ or GZ turbos. C)The overall bane of insurance companies which is inconsistency. You quote the same identical thing to ten different insurers. Two give wildly varying prices. Three of them won't cover it. Four want an absurd cost you wouldn't pay for a Ferrari Enzo. And the last one doesn't know what a Supra is. The best insurer is the one that looks at your situation and offers a comprehensive package at an affordable (relative, but obviously some prices are ludicrous) cost. But because of the three given examples above, achieving that is a long and ardous process. My advice..move to America. Yank insurers don't expect you to give your left nut just to have a nice weekend car.
  13. I can't tell you a price, but I can tell you that all you need to advertise for the purpose of trying to MAKE a sale is : Minimum : 1995/Reg Twin Turbo Six speed 69,500 miles Tax/MOT Optional but should help make it more appropriately appealing: Fully Serviced UK front brakes Full respray Genuine side skirts and spats (a.k.a. OEM?) 18 inch wheels HKS exhaust Anything else is optional but not necessary, and depending on the type of buyer, might be something you want to stress less and only mention for the purposes of being honest. I.e. talk about them later, don't try and carry on about a HKS air filter, that doesn't impress. Remember too many modifications can be a turn off. Don't drag it out and risk losing a sale because you feel it's 'worth more.' I've built and worked on cars that coulda shoulda woulda sold for 100k but we ended up only getting half that money. Sometimes that's how it goes with custom and performance vehicles - you'll rarely get back what you put into it. If you really need the money, take the bulk value and walk away.
  14. I hear you on that. If you're in towns, it's all the little Citroens or some other God awful car with a fart can on the back that tail gate you with their camera phone stuck out the window. If it's on motor ways or country roads, it's a thirty-something dad trying to relive glory days by passing you in his Mercedes.
  15. Just have to say been a long time lurker, finally signed up as I had gotten a hold of a Supra, and figured I'd start posting sooner or later. Getting a Supra came with the usual challenge of finding the right one, being sold by the right person. A lot of the so called 'premium' Supra car lots in the UK (I won't mention names) are a bunch of jokers and they are the time wasters. But the biggest obstacle was insurance. Despite having driven in the States for fifteen years, with a full no claims record and not once pulled over by the police or been in an automobile incident, English insurance companies treated me like an Essex teenage boy racer with a lead foot. A lot of insurance companies won't cover an automobile with the status that the Supra has(similar for RX7, Skyine, 300ZX Fairlady etc.) unless you have four or five years UK license; some won't do it till nine. This is where brokers like Adrian Flux(who are also shady in their own way)come in handy, because they have a premium list of the insurers who will cover performance cars with the least hassle. And this is all well and good, IF you meet certain requirements, one of which being over twenty-five and/or having a full UK license for XX numbers of years - which is no different than the generic insurance companies I was referring to above. What the premium insurers give you though, is the ability to modify (or purchase a pre modified vehicle) your car with as minimum hassle as possible. So for someone such as myself, I had to spend countless hours finding an insurance company, who would at least give some recognition to my driving record in the States, and put that towards the three years I had with a full UK license. A found a handful out of out of eighty or more companies who would consider SZ Supras(which was useless to me), and only one would cover me on TT Supras. On the latter company, the premiums weren't bad, the excess was kinda ridiculous, but it was a compromise since no one else would cooperate. The major downside though was modifications. Even if the car had a set of 18" wheels, or a bomex front bumper it was declined. I can say with complete certainty, that I have no idea if Sky would be any good for someone with normal circumstances, but for me, they were one of the many who turned me away. A massive hole burning in my pocket, almost £20,000 to spend on a car, and I was banging my head against the wall because of a-hole insurers. Big massive thanks to AVIVA, who gave me a chance and now I am a happy owner. I challenge Sky to assess my past situation and pass comment on what they think they could do to set themselves apart for drivers who migrated from other countries - because that's a huge untapped part of the market that no one is picking up on. P.S. Big laugh at Admiral who wanted £4,500 annualy for a SZ.
