  1. No, it's definitely something that spins.
  2. Hi all, First of all I'd like to say that this isn't a for sale thread! After a lot of heart-ache and money I finally got royally fed up with my Supra last week and chopped it in for an Impreza (yes, I know!) Anyway, the trader I part-ex'd it for has put it up on eBay for 2k! If anyone's after a cheap Supra that's after a bit of work, read on: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230689795500&category=18290&_trksid=p5197.c0.m619 I bought the Supra in May from member on here. It was cheap, had little in the way of service history and ran like a bag of spanners, but I wanted a wanted a bit of a project and I thought it was worth a punt. Since I bought it I did the following: Brand new Bilstein Yellows with Chris Wilson fast road springs 17" TT Alloys Toyo T-Sport rear tyres (Pirellis on the front still in pretty good condition) New clutch Replaced damaged front caliper However, and this is why I got so fed up with it.... There is a wobble/vibration that I haven't been able to cure. As I said, the car ran terribly when I bought it, and a full service (plugs, dizzy, leads, sparks, oil, filter) helped it run better, but something is still out of balance. It happens dependent on engine speed, so nothing to do with the prop shaft etc. I thought it could be an out of balance flywheel, but when the clutch was replaced a couple of weeks ago I paid to haver the flywheel skimmed on both sides and balanced. I also had the cam pulley checked for balance. However, when I put it all back together the wobble was still there - James at ToyotaGT did loads of work trying to work out what's wrong and concluded that, whatever it is, it's engine related. There's nothing else it could be. So, it still runs fine apart from this wobble, which I imagine at some point will get worse. This is why I got fed up and got rid, I lost interest completely and can't be bothered to chase the problem any further or pay to put a replacement engine in. However, I thought I'd post it up here in case anyone wants a well-sorted shell with some very tasty bits, either to put a replacement NA engine or maybe for a TT conversion. Other than the engine issue it's an excellent Supra. As I said, I'm in no way affiliated with the trader, I just thought this could be useful to someone I'm happy to answer any questions anyone has about the car
  3. I use mine everyday for a 40-odd mile round trip to work. Not much traffic mind, it's all fast A-roads with the occasional stretch of dual-carriageway so it does get driven rather hard! I do look after it though, it's a bit of a project as it was in a state whan I bought it. New susension, wheels and tyres have helped a treat and it's a lovely car to drive everyday. It also gets a wash and a wax every couple of weeks at least so it's generally pretty spangly, although parking under trees doesn't rerally help that
  4. Haha, yep me too. Peaslake village fair is the place to be I've been roped into helping my old man out on the beer tent. A tragedy, of course...
  5. Ah, ok that looks like the culprit then. It started happening as soon as the wheels were changed over, and my old tyres were evenly worn and gave no problems. It's not so bad as to be undriveable, it's just kind of annoying at the moment. I'll replace the front tyres and see ho I go from there
  6. Well, geo set-up is fine and the tyre pressures are fine. I've recently had new shocks and springs fitted, and the garage checked the subframes and all other suspension components at the same time, so that's ruled out. The only thing I can think is that the front tyres on the new wheels are fairly worn on the inside edge, suggesting the car they came off had a pretty dodgy geo setting itself - I'm going to replace them fairly soon anyway but they're still legal so I wasnt in such a hurry. Could this be the cause of my tramlining?
  7. I recentely replaced my aftermarket 18s with some stock TT 17s running 235 profile tyres on the front. I had the tracking checked and adjusted at the same time, but ever since the front end has felt a bit twitchy. It's like, on a straight road with the occasional surface defect, the front wheels are fighting each other and the car's all over the road. I'm guessing the garage has cocked up the tracking, so it's in at the moment being re-checked. Is there anything else that could be causing it though? I assume TT 17s should be fine on an NA?
  8. The v6 is a popular conversion on these, and it's really rather good. As far as I know there's not a lot of difference in weight between the two engines.
  9. Can anyone recommend a good wax or protective spray for convertibles? My girlfriend's car tends to get sapped/crapped on quite a lot where it's parked. I protect the paintwork with regular washing and waxing, but not sure about the roof! Any recommendations? Cheers!
  10. Forgot to add - there's 20 wheelnuts I'll throw in as well
  11. Hi all, I've just put some stock wheels on my Sup, so these wheels are up for sale. They're all 18" 8J ET35. Tyres are Maxxis MA-V1 all with plenty of tread. 225/40/18 front and 245/40/18 on the rear. The wheels are all straight and true, but there are some kerbing marks - they could do with a refurb if you wanted them perfect. I'm looking for £175, but open to offers. Pickup only please from Wallingford, OX10. If you want to organise a wheel courier that's fine, but pickup will have to be evening/weekend due to my work hours. Please pm with any questions Plenty of pics for you: Front tread: Rear tread:
  12. Any idea how much you'd want for a flywheel? I have no idea what the going rate is...
  13. Not unless it's had an engine transplant... That's an NA engine lid /Nerd
  14. Cool, that's what I was thinking. Thanks dude!
  15. I'm due to pick up a set of 17" wheels with tyres next week, and they're going to have to go in the Supra. Question is, will they go in easily enough or will I have to take the passenger seat out? Cheers!
  16. Talk to the chaps at Northway Porsche near Reading, they really know their stuff. Don't know how far away you are (sorry, can't see location on my phone) they have a very nice boxter S for sale. Don't expect a shiny sales patter, but they really know their stuff and have an excellent reputation in Porsche circles
  17. ...and here it was in former glory: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2941980.htm
  18. Well, it's a write-off You can't really tell from the pictures, but the engine has been pushed backwards and sideways, the front chassis member is twisted, the steering column was pushed back 4 inces, as was the driver's door. Not only that, but it was pushed sideways into the kerb so all the suspension on the other side is damaged as well. Turns out it was caused by a woman in an Astra who lost control coming down a hill in the wet - cue massive tank-slapper which pushed her onto the wrong side of the road.
  19. Yep, it's the 4.2. Apparently, whichever fluid is all over the car is from the Mazza, which, given that it's a Ferrari engine, isn't going to be cheap I imagine he'll be shopping for a replacement fairly soon...
  20. My work-mate just sent me a pic of his car... apparently some woman lost control in the wet and hit him, screwing up his arm and wrist in the process. I've been in this car several times, it really is (was) quite something!
  21. Mine came to about £890ish including VAT for standard (not re-valved) Bilsteins and Chris' NA springs. I guess it sounds like a fair amount to spend on a car that's maybe worth £3k, but it's more than worth it IMO. I've tried to do cheap suspension 'upgrades' to cars in the past and have always been disappointed (I almost ruined my old MR2 with a set of Jamex springs - it looked great but rode terribly!) My thoughts with my Supra are very much 'do it once, do it right,' and it's certainly paid off here
  22. I just wanted to say a massive thank you to CW for sorting me out with a set of yellow Billies and his own springs for my NA. I ordered these a couple of weeks ago from Chris and it all turned up two days later. It was all fitted by a local friendly garage (Haynes car care in Wallingford - very good if anyone's nearby). As well as fitting the new shocks and springs, I've had all of the subframe bolts re-torqued. This alone made a massive difference - I was getting a whole cacophony of clonks and bangs before which I had put down to knackered droplinks perhaps, but with everything tightened up and the new bits in place the suspension is beautifully tight and knock-free. Chris also helped Haynes with the setting up of the ride-height, so the car is now beautifully poised and rides/handles so much better than on the old tired setup. So, many thanks to CW who lived up to his reputation and bent over backwards to be as helpful as possible, and remember to check those subframes people! It now feels like I have a totally different car
