if this was the case, after a run you'd be able to see if the collant level was down by looking into the radiator (obviously after it had cooled), is that right???
-
i had to drain some of my coolant last week to get to my radiator fan, i refilled the liquid into the coolant bottle, but then when the engine was ticking over for a while it overheated, (i think i know why it overheated, the intake was blocked with the car cover, yes i know im stupid!), i lost a fair bit of coolant coz it boiled over! anyhow after letting everything cool down i added some more coolant to the filler bottle and let the engine run again, it seemed to be getting hot so i turned it off and after it had cooled checked my radiator, it wasnt full to the top, is it possible theres a block between my filler bottle and the radiator? if so can i just fill the radiator from its cap rather than filling the coolant filler bottle???

chris, my question was is your SMIC much better than stock, if so do you have any figures on it? my stock SMIC is in A1 condition, as you'd expect on a 97 facelift thats only been in the UK 6 months, the question was more along the lines of, 'is your SMIC designed as a replacement for old SMIC or an alternative for a FMIC?' and if it is do you have any idea how good your SMIC is compaired to some of the popular FMICs? just interested coz i'd like to upgrade intercooler at sum point and if this is an option it'd have the bonus of being a little more insurance friendly which is allways nice...
-
so would this SMIC stand up to reasonable boost from hybrid turbos does anyone think? just out of interest, coz it'd be nice if you could get the sort of power that hybrids/decent intercooler provide with a good chance that you could get away with not putting them on your insurance. ...Not that i'd ever think of not declairing anything on my insurance of course!!! does anyone have anymore info on this SMIC then? or has anyone else had it fitted?
-
think it mentions earlier in the thread that you'd need a different ECU megatart, and turbos and lots of other stuff, putting a UK engine in a jap car sounds like a major job, much much much cheaper to find a jap one.

C4 the lights take alot longer than 5 minutes in the oven, the trick is to keep the temp low and take them out every 5 minutes to work the cover a little looser every time, the glue they use on em is like cement but it gives eventually!!!

Possibly the most un-technical, technical question ever!!!

they did, sort of clips, but not like the ones between the headlight under the rubber, same as the ones holding the rear bumper in place down the sides, couldnt find any way to get them out, even brute force dosent seem to work, ive got both bumpers off now, but they shure as hell wont be going on again! lol theyre in a bit of a state, but they were totally busted anyway so no biggie, the damage under the bumpers, hmmm, rear looks ok, the crash bar thing is bent from the impact, but none seems to have gone beyond it, front not so good, the very left of the alu impact bar has taken some impact, its either been pushed back onto the metal frame (the one that runs right along the car) or its pushed it back a bit, if it has it could mean trouble!!! oh n the front middle underside plagi protector thing is busted too, ill need a new one prob... still could be worse... think ill get full instructions before i attempt to do anything with the fan, infact maybe ill just leave it till dudesvs's man comes to have a look, probably safer! still, a good days bodywork stripping! im quite chuffed wi me'self considering i can barely change a wheel! lol -

nah not between the headlights under the rubber strip, ive got those out allready, its the ones allmost directly below them, in the air intake bit, think im gonna get sum plyers n get em out cave man style! (if they dont come out when you pull... PULL HARDER! lol) -

dont think they are the clips, the ones im on about dont have a philips type indentation on them like the ones on top of the front bumper upper retainer, if you look at the blitz intercooler instillation with the diagrams of how to remove the front bumper, the clips im on about are in 3) removing the front bumper assembly, second pic down, the line next to the pic reads, 1. refer to the diagram on the left to remove the 6 clips abd remove the front bumper lower retainer... theyre the blumin things, set in like concrete they are, i can see my front crash bar martin! its got some minor damage on the very left, but any damage to it would mean it has to be replaced wouldnt it??? at least it looks like its taken all the force, nothing else looks out of place/dented. -
Im in the process of removing my front bumper, ive done all the hard bits, and shes allmost off, but... i cant get the clips that attach the bumper to the crash bar thingie on the upper part of the air intake bit, anyone know how to get them out? theres 6 of the buggers, they wont pull out or screw out, its obviously something really simple... any ideas? (and dont laugh!)

dont suppose anyone has the part number for the motor fan blade on a 97 jspec TT facelift handy, do they??? (just the fan blade not the whole unit)
-
related targa question, n if its been asked before then im just cr*p with the search. (but i did check! ) Did they ever make a facelift TT targa? coz on JIC it says they stoped making targas in 95, but they have a 97 facelift green NA targa on their site, contradiction or what... but still, a TT facelift even in auto, (i like autos n im pretty shure i'd be in a wheelchair now without the ol kickdown on my auto supe) that'd be nice... but do they exist???
-
went to see martin last night, we had a good ol play in the rain, and everything seems to be working hunkey dorey now, - infact its pretty likely that it was working all along i was just being paranoid. doh! so next step is gettin sum wheels with an offset big enough to fit some UK breaks behind, then ill be able to stop and turn as well as go!!! Anyone know of anyone that has a set they want rid of by any chance??? Otherwise, end of thread i suppose... (i like happy endings! )

yeah reccon you could be right terminator, software seems likely, should know more after ive visited martin tonight...

OUCH!!! just been out round a few roundabouts with the std TC dissabled, its a little wet here n i was trying to loose the back end, i totally suceeded, she came out a beut! n the force of correcting her sent my head into the side of the car good n fast! now i have a head ache! its the last time i listen to you guys! lol, just kiddin, my conclusion though is that the RLTC deffo isnt working as it should, it wouldnt let me loose my back end no matter how hard i tried if it was working would it? (it was set to wet). (oh n the roundabout was empty n i had a good lane and a half of room to correct so the chances of doing any halm to the supe or anyone apart from my poor head were minimal so dont worry!!!) Im gonna get martin to hook his lap top up to it tomorrow night and see whats going on, we were having a few problems with the link up when we did the settings so it could be related to that. oh n i hope no one readin this would be put off of martins installs, i watched him at work for the last 5 hour or so of the install and i was more than happy, im totally confident that any problems are down to a glitch, a facelift thing, me just being paranoid/pushing the RLTC too far, or the actual unit, im positive martins install was top notch!!!
-
yup she was workin ok last night, could feel it cutting in pretty obviously, but it was much dryer last night, however, i was still getting the std TC kicking in occasionally this morn, so turned RLTC off, there seemed to be less traction there, then turned her back on again, n there didnt seem to be any difference still v little traction, oh im confused, ill try doing some cornering with the std TC off and RLTC on 'wet' at dinner time, i just bloody hope i dont crash! lol Can you change the RLTC say from wet to 10% anytime? or do you have to turn the engine off or anything? as its when i start to fiddle with it that i seem to get the problems, - not that i make a habbit of fiddling with my nob!
-
ok got RLTC installed yesterday by martin, (thanx mate!) problem is im pretty shure its forgotten its settings so isnt working, it worked fine after fitting on the way home, but ive had the std traction and snow mode kickin in thismornin, the question, whats the easyest way to tell if its working??? i was thinkin a wide space, switch to wet and attempt to doughnut? am i along the right lines??? (i realise poping to martins and getting him to check on his lap top would be easyest, but cant do that tonight) anyone???
-
nice 1 simon:thumbs: , if i get one ill be usin that thread, so follow the thread and it'll be all hooked up, even to the handbreak??? (i wont be doing it myself thank god, but better ask just so i know, ) oh, n is there no point in buyin one of these harnesses then? im pretty shure i know sum1 clued up enough to be able to wire it anyway! And what did you use to mount the controlls in your dash??? (looks smart by the way!) ...so many questions.
-
so pete did you read it? (the flyer for the chip modification thingie) what did you reccon? it all sounded good to me!
-
bugger, yeah i got facelift, oh well timer isnt that much of a priority at present anyway, i want RL traction control first, (before i kill myself! ) just tempted by a cheap timer on ebay, if antone wants it just do a search with the title of this thread, postage might be a pain coz its from japan, but its only small so shouldnt be too bad.
-
oooo! ive just got the leaflet about the chip, i cant post it because im not supposed to have it, but if anyones interested drop me a PM and ill forward it on,
-
is hooking the timer up to the handbreak a difficult job then??? or will it just do this from the normal wiring???
-
well, superchip who are supposedly going to reliese this product dont have an official statement on it yet, and i quote "no can do unfortunately, it's not released yet and the info / link that we've got isn't allowed to be generally released..." my mate probably got the news from the focus forum, not shure if the link will be on there, but they seem to be a bit tight with it! but like i said before he's a pretty relyable chap, when i get anything more ill post it up!
-
yeah seems pretty, high tech, the fella that i was talking to it about, (not sum bloke in a pub, a fairly clued up fella, so there could be truth in it), has left, but as soon as i can get hold of a link or anymore ill post it, should be in the mornin, oh and thanx for the reply terry, i was starting to think everyone was ignoring me, no replys on my turbo timer thread, then a while before any on this,

anyone know if the com port (for the ECU) on the jap supra (97) is OBD2, coz if it is theres the possibility of gettin hold of a really cool chip (from superchip) that is self programmable, so you can have super settings for racing, econo settings for... (umm, if youre giving granny a lift home), and still be able to return to normal settings for MOTs/insurance inspections (nice since the insurance mark up on superchips is usually sky high), and you can get it to shut down with a code, so extra sercurity, sounds pretty good if it could work on a supe....
