  1. Had an epic garage and loft clear out this weekend and found this - what appears to be the original Japanese Supra owner's manual. Anyone else got / seen one?
  2. Pretty sure the last one I specced was M20 x something. Maybe 1.5? Will check the drawing tomorrow. Don't really care, just surprised, that's all! :-)
  3. What about the oil film thicknesses on the main a big end bearings? Granted these are mainly driven by bearing geometry, but having decent oil can't hurt. If the OPs car was a stocker I'd be the first to say stop wasting money and stick to the manufacturer's schedule with a decent semi-synth, but since he's gone single turbo he can rip that up and do whatever he wants - there will only be anecdotal evidence to support it anyway.
  4. The standard thread isn't imperial, surely?
  5. You can buy heat shield material from Demon Tweeks but its not cheap, and you have to form it yourself which might mean it ends up looking rubbish. Out of interest have you priced up a genuine replacement part from Toyota?
  6. I hope so. The original Monsters was brilliant and deserves to be left as a stand alone piece of work.
  7. OK, the second warning light on the right that you mention will be the warning light specifically to say your brake fluid is low. I'm a bit confused as to why you even had to start a thread? Your car was already telling you what was wrong. If you don't have an owners manual or something else to tell you what the warning lights mean I'd recommend getting one. Anyway, glad you got it sorted out.
  8. Its the oil filter that he's changed for K&N, not the air filter
  9. The first clue might be to tell us which warning light is coming on? Yes, it does sound like brake fluid level symptoms, but IIRC that should light two different warning lamps, and the OP hasn't disturbed the brake system, he's disturbed the lubrication system.
  10. With utmost respect that sounds like cobblers from the Aeroquip guy. If all pump fuel now had sufficient ethanol in it to rot out standard fuel lines in two years then nearly all the cars on the road today will soon be falling apart.
  11. IIRC the standard Toyota one is even cheaper and has the same guarantee. It's all discussed in the battery thread.

    Fuel consumption

If fuel economy is an issue because you are planning to do a lot of miles then you should also factor in how much regular servicing is going to cost you, as well as consumables like tyres and brake pads. The Supra has a pretty long service interval, but if you are planning on using it as a daily drive on a decent commute, those services come round pretty fast.

    Fuel consumption

Usually around 24 mpg for me. That's real measured data from every tankful. The most I ever got was 28 mpg cruising back from JIC (remember them?) in convoy with my dad, and I've had it in the teens during the summer with the aircon on.
  14. You'll get stick on here for asking questions like that You are supposed to buy the most expensive oil and change it as frequently as possible. FWIW I ran my SZ for 9 years and about 150,000 miles on the normal Toyota service intervals and regular Castrol Magnatec. I did play about with grades, but I'm sure I started off with 10W40 semi-synth.
  15. Does a non-mainstream film have to be pretentious? I don't like overly pretentious, obscure films either but then again I don't watch 99% of current releases, and even most of the "must see" blockbusters I wait for the DVD and watch it at home in peace and quiet for a fraction of the cost I'll happily watch a black and white war film with hammy acting and terrible special effects if the story is gripping, or a classic spaghetti western with overdubbed dialogue and then equally happily put something more accessible like The Expendables on. I watch a lot of old cold war era science fiction films but most of those are truly terrible. Most of my movie collection is older films, though. I recently watched most of the Kurosawa series on Film 4. A lot of people would probably say that was pretentious just because they are foriegn language films but if you can get past the language issue then the stories are just as good as anything produced in the west. Films are like wine, I guess. People can claim to be experts on it, but in the end it just comes down to what you like. - - - Updated - - - I think I saw that one on PornHub
  16. I've heard of that a while back and thought it sounded interesting, but didn't know it was released. Now that I see its a Terry Gilliam film starring Christoph Waltz I shall definately watch it
  17. I shall most probably watch this :-) In fact I think I may have added it to my LoveFilm rental list already so I may watch that as I prefer subtitles to dubs. I certainly recognise the title, though. Not quite the same thing, but I watched "The Beast" a few days back and thoroughly enjoyed it.
  18. Well for something a bit different, I just watched the original 1984 version of Red Dawn for the first time. Makes the remake look like slapstick. From a time when we all lived under the spectre of the Cold War and films about it were allowed to be cold, bleak and not necessarily have a happy ending, endless preamble nor an obligatory romantic subplot. Loved it
  19. Yeah but its a thread called "mini movie review" not "make a list of films you have watched".
  20. Yes, me. I used to read 200AD and I liked both Dredd films in their own right, but I would have rather the Stallone one stuck closer to the comics. I thought the Karl Urban reboot was great and it was a crying shame that it just ended up being compared to The Raid when it was released. I thought there was talk of a sequel? I recall some chatter about it using one of the more grand story arcs from the comics - probably involving the Dark Judges and Sisters of Death. Although I reckon this would be a success comemrcially, for me it would just reduce the it to "just another sci-fi horror". I hate mordern horror films, especially the zombie genre. I stopped reading 2000AD before the Necropolis story, but I gather that's a massive zombie fest which has been mooted as a possible basis for a Dredd sequel. I know that these stories form a big part of the Dredd universe but I'd rather see him in his "everyday" guise, fighting crime like a future Dirty Harry than a pure sci-fi figure.
  21. Wouldn't variable timing on the exhaust be far more beneficial for that? Not that's it's even an option for you if you use a Supra engine. At the risk of teaching you to suck eggs, VVTi was designed to give you more low down torque or top end power, without one having to compromise the other. You could still tune for either using a non-VVTi head, but you wouldn't get both. I have no idea about drifing so I don't know if the top or bottom end is more important to you.
  22. A film about file servers? ;-)
  23. It's a shame they didn't make some more effort with the styling of the LED clusters. The Supra is such a curvy car, the angular look to the LEDs doesn't suit, IMHO.
  24. Might well be a stuck themostat then, as suggested above.
  25. Under what conditions? After a run or just at idle before going anywhere? Let it cool then check if the hose is split or loose. If so then the system will lose pressure making it easier for the coolant to boil. Is the bottom of the rad stone cold or just cooler than the top?
