What are you getting your better half for Christmas

Good luck mate, I got engaged 2 weeks ago in Egypt. Getting away is a good idea as it lets it sink in a bit. Although get ready for the wedding plans! They happen a lot sooner than I thought! Lol. If you want extra brownie points get her a wedding magazine to give her shortly after. She will think you are The king! -
The same uk assistance in Cambuslang repaired a slight scratch on the front bumper of my mkiii supra a few years ago. They couldn't get clips to put the bumper back on after a re spray and wanted to write the car off. I told them to do their best with it and it came back looking great. There is a car hire place there too so it was handy to sort that out while there. It's a big place, they seem to get lots of work. That's just my brief encounter with them

Incase anyone wondered where the name hurricane bawbag came from here is a link to the pic of the weather front that gave birth to the name. You might need to look for it, but when u see it ... http://www.google.co.uk/m/search?q=hurricane+bawbag+pic&hl=en&client=safari&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=qlXiTvz9D6Tj4QSZ382XBQ&ved=0CCsQsAQ&biw=320&bih=416#i=2

Watch this space then...

Great link. Thanks. I'm excited to see if anything comes of it , but worried at the same time that it will be a let down. I would reject a toberu supra cross breed though

Funny how the LFA took 10 years to develop, the dates tie in. I owned both mkiii & mkiv supras. The mkiii was a cruiser, the mkiv was a slimmed down sports car. Would the LFA be classed a supercar? I saw a while ago Toyota saying the 2+2 sports car could return. Add that to reserving the supra name to be used within a few years it makes you wonder what they are up to. I think there was a good point made, retire the name with grace if you aren't going to have it at the pinnacle any more.
-
The mkiv was outa my price range once too. As the GTR is now. Depreciation is your friend in a situation like this
-
Cool pics. Amazing how they made it with their own carbon fibre weaving machine etc. The burd at the world network desk is having a good time
-
Only thing we can hope for is the new components built for the LFA will be put into future cars and they will as a result be able to produce similar performance at planet earth prices. I might live in the past too much. I guess re- branding has been around for a while Chris, ie celica supra to supra. I get the badge snob point, if it wasn't an issue Lexus wouldnt exist after all. I dont know much about the sales figures but I've seen enough GTR's about to know that people are buying them, like you say who in their right mind, money allowing, wouldn't? I don't know if people would buy a £340,000 toyota, but I think the days of worrying about people buying a £40- 50k one are in question (depending on performance) after the GTR Good video on the LFA. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ecwwk6a72Lg&feature=youtube_gdata_player

I know its a sad thought, we all would like to see a new supra in the same spirit of the beloved mkiv. I'm thinking though it might not ever happen again. The reason I had this thought is due to three letters. LFA. The mkiv might have borrowed a lot of its engineering from other Toyota and Lexus cars, but it was the best toyota could do at the time. It brought all of its strengths together to design and form one flagship project. A car that everyone at the company could be so proud of. For me the Lexus LFA is in essance the new generation supra. Built with the same commitment as the supra was in it's day. It was the best car that they could make at the time. Also, at around £40,000 it was punching above its weight in bang for your buck terms. The LFA, an amazing machine though it is, it's hard to compare the price of it next to a car like the Nissan GTR. A car far away from it on price, but not performance. You can't really say that the Same now that it punches above its weight the way the supra did. The fact that Toyota's former chief test driver, Hiromu Naruse, who I believe was a driving force behind the supra turning out the way it did, was so involved, tragically to his end, in the development of the LFA, shows me that the attention and commitment to producing a new supra, one that would equal or better in performance and price the likes of the GTR would be a Miricle to see today. The reason being that the cost of all the development needed would command such a price that the cost of the car just couldn't be under £50,000. Another thing is how good would a new supra be without people like Naruse working on it. I think it's a shame that Toyota feel they couldn't trust the supra to be the flagship like it once was. Probably due to the fact they were bitten before when people found it hard to stomach the price to buy a Toyota. Nissan have proved it can be done though. I'd love to see a new supra to compete with the GTR, and if it ever happens it would be an incredible achievement but It seems unlikely they would put out a car that can equal or better the LFA for a fraction of the price. (£300+!?) Does anyone get what I mean about the feeling of the LFA kinda ruined everything for the future of the supra? I think it was originally developed with being the next supra and took on a life of its own when costs got so high. I might be completely wrong there, what do u think? P.s I had this thought today after seeing the club twitter account tweet pics of the LFA. Thanks for reading

I agree with the devide and rule comment. Seems to be working well. I don't think people should be having a go at public sector workers that have chosen to strike. They are within their rights to do so and lets not forget that ''those people down the pub'' gave up a days pay in order to stand up and protect the benifits that people fought so long and hard to achieve. If you signed up to a new job that said if you pay in x you will get y at the end of it and then someone said they were changing it what would you do? I think people outwith the public sector need to stop looking enviously at what others have. I dont know many in the public sector that used to get sales bonuses, and stock and share options. Its swings and roundabouts. We should be saying private sector pensions should be improved to a better standard instead of encouraging a race to the bottom that benifits nobody. (government aside!) I understand people have a right to their opinion but find out some facts for yourself if you haven't already done so instead of trusting the media for objective info. I'm a public service worker and have a final salary pension. This might sound "gold plated" but the reality is that I pay 11% of my salary to it for 40 years. 11% is a lot of money so it's not like your getting something for nothing. If you want to talk about the real problem pensions look at those in Whitehall, don't look to the nurse teacher and cleaner to pay for investment bankers greed. Likewise I don't think those in the private sector outside banking should pay for it either. The government is doing a great job misdirecting the fact that they still can't control the banks. Remember when these bailouts we're on condition the banks started lending to people? They love the fact we are fighting amongst ourselves. Days of action like today are a last resort and nobody wants to do it- how much would you loose in a days pay (and there might be more dates) but there comes a point when you need to stand up for yourself and I for one respect that. Not trying to stir it up I just thought I'd give my opinion. Ps jc is a knob but I think what he said was tounge in cheek but showed poor judgement

I remember first laying eyes on a mkiv supra at the scottish motor show in the secc when it first came out. Seeing it sitting there in silver on the Toyota stand with a tv next to it showing the speed sensitive spoiler activating was mind blowing to me. My uncle had a white mkiii turbo and was in love with that, but to have a new supra out and to be looking at it was incredible. I was only 10 or 11, but the moment stayed with me for so long that when I replaced my first car, a white mkiii with a silver uk spec mkiv I felt like I had waited so long for it (17 years!) and it was worth the wait. I feel so lucky that the car I wanted most of my life was pretty much forgotten about by the time I could afford one. You can't help feeling like there is something wrong with people that they wouldn't want a supercar that not long ago was £40,000. Lucky for us I guess. funny how it ended up being a silver uk spec I got. I love catching the reflection in shop windows at lights Looking at the sunset light up the curves in the wing mirror on a drive home And looking out my window to see it parked on my drive

I know what you mean, once I drove the supra after driving the 4x4 for a week it felt amazing. You tend to slightly take it for granted how enjoyable it is to drive after a while

I've used mine as a daily too up until now- including through all last winter, but had the chance to get something else to take the punishment of all the salt and grime. that was really a bonus point, the main reason was I didn't want to skid off the road and hit a lamp post. I think you can drive it in the snow if you are careful, I just didn't want to risk it again given the choice. While its put away I'm going to make an order from opie oil and attempt my first oil and filter change. I also want to refurb my headlights. Just worried they will stink the oven out!

I might have jumped the gun with the weather being pretty mild, but after last year I wasn't taking any chances. Last year I was forced to use the supra to get to work during all the bad snow. It slid around and got stuck and at times it was like having 2 passenger seats in the front. I didn't think it was fair to put it through another winter like that so last week I flew down to Luton and picked up a '95 mitsubishi shogun. I only paid £620 for it on eBay (12 moths mot). I was taking a bit of a risk as I literally bought it in the dark (8pm by the time I arrived) I have not bought 4 cars on eBay and have always been pleased, this has worked out to be the case so far this time too as it made it 350 miles back up the road. Glad I did it to protect my pride and joy as its tucked up in the garage. Anyone else thought about doing/ done the same after how bad things were last year?

Help please! Electrical? Power steering fail
Marcus GTE replied to Marcus GTE's topic in mkiv Technical
I figured it out! I was checking the fuses and noticed te battery clamp came loose and was in contact with the positive terminal causing the electrics to play up! Waste of time taking the turbo timer out- but it's all good as it saved a trip to the garage! Cheers anyway for the views and hopefully it might help someone else some day -
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem as this- did a search but couldn't see anything. I was driving yesterday and I got a few warning lights on the dash. Trac control etc. Hard to tell as they didn't stay on for long. I have an old carphone still installed and when you turn on the car you hear a filing tone. This sound happens every time I get these lights together with the dangerous part, the power steering fails! I also have a blitz dc2 turbo timer installed and it would activate the timer each time too. Seems like the ignition is turned off but the engine stays on. That was the case untill tonight- driving home 10 min into the drive it happened constantly and at one point the engine did cut out. It's not safe to drive at the moment- anyone had anything like this??
-
i have d2's on mine and they are good. bit of a firm ride- but only have a mk3 supras stock suspension to compare them too as they came with the car when i got it (mkiv). once had to bring the tail back in on a wet corner and there was minimal body roll and i think it made the difference.
