  4. "We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine........." Listen, the greatest thinkers were all mental. Remember, there's a very fine line between genius and madness! On the one hand, it says that the Universe is 14 billion years old. On the other, (at full zoom out), it's estimated at 93 billion light years across but that you couldn't see more than 14 billion light years in any one direction, as that's how old it is. How can it be estimated to be bigger than is possible within it's age? It's either 14 or 93 billion years old. Yet these people claim to be intelligent? They must have completely done away with the Big Bang Theory. That reminds me.......
  5. Cool. Mindblowing stuff. I just wonder how the Universe can be 93 billion light years across when it's only 13-15 billion years old? If the speed of light was the fastest thing and the rate of expansion was at the speed of light, which it isn't supposed to be, it would only be 26-30 billion light years across. Can anyone explain this? The rate of expansion is not supposed to be a constant but ever increasing with distance from the origin or Big Bang event, so it would only ever approach the speed of light. Therefore, the Universe would be somewhat less than 26-30 billion light years across. Obviously I think it's all nonsense but I would, wouldn't I?
  6. Don't worry about flooding the motor as the injectors shouldn't fire until the crank rotates. Excess fuel would be pumped out of the exhaust valves immediately and lost past the rings before it built up anyway. Also, the motor shouldn't start until the solenoid engages the pinion in the flywheel or flexplate so that shouldn't be an issue either. Infact, I think the power to the motor is only connected by the extension of the solenoid and a successful contact which is what actually powers the motor. That is to say, the solenoid goes in and out but the motor doesn't receive power as the connection isn't being made successfully.
  7. Have you tried starting it for a good five minutes? I mean, repeated attempts. I found that rapid attempts would yield results eventually but you have to be ready to leave the ignition on when it cranks and not just switch it off again from habit. Seriously, the heat from the attempted contacts will expand them enough to make a decent connection after a while, trust me. You can also try to heat the unit gently or failing that, tap it with a hammer incase it's stuck. One of my MKIII's went on like this for weeks before it finally refused to start. Very frustrating business. You might notice that the tapping gets more metallic as it wears out. Then you're dependent upon the distance the spark can travel across the electrodes so having a fully topped up battery will help. They could design these solenoids to outlast the car but there's no money in that. It's called 'designed obsolescence.' Re-charge the battery to full and it might work, on a sunny afternoon, if you swear at it long enough Just mumble the words, "Scrap" and "Yard" in the same sentence. I know it's cruel but it works a treat!
  8. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOYOTA-SUPRA-MK4-JZA80-3-0-inc-TT-TWIN-TURBO-STARTER-MOTOR-SOLENOID-REPAIR-KIT-/290656849687?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43ac7f8f17 I can't vouch for ease of fitting or quality but just read the other guy's comments. You'll find that the car will start if you keep trying long enough and may appear to be fine for a while but it's all down to the weather from that point on. The motors are 4 brush jobbies and I can't imagine wearing out those, so your best bet is to replace the solenoid contacts or solenoid unit that the motor is connected to. Either way, it's a bit of a job. Well worth the hassle though.
  9. A previous thread...... http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?171710-ebay-starter-motor-refurb-kit
  10. It's the solenoid. You can get replacement contact kits on eBay. Link to follow in 5.
  11. Trust me to get it round the wrong way! 1. Wile e coyote - dis_mee 2. Probrox - Probrox 3. Steveo - MKIVSupra 4. Dave - davem53 5. Morpheus - Suprasmart68 6. Robzki - bobzki 7. HateEvent - KCHGH Btw, I have a Supra and a Smart Fortwo, so fortunately, I'm not referring to myself!
  12. 1: Wile e coyote - dis_mee 2. Probrox - Probrox 3. Steveo - MKIVSupra 4. Dave - davem53 5. Morpheus - Suprasmart68 I think Matt's list needs updating anyway as it's nearly 4 years old. Remember to refresh the screen just before posting your list update, as someone may get there before you and you'll duplicate the list number.
  13. Guy, you're drowning in choice so you'll need to be much more specific about your theme ideas for the shoot and the car spec' and look that you're after, as there are enough Supras on here to satisfy any and all tastes that you can think of - and quite a few that you probably couldn't imagine without taking LSD! Since you will be writing the feature, what would you like to write about? Presumably something different that Joe Public hasn't seen before? Stage 1 or 2 are vague terms which could mean different things to different people and give the impression that you're only looking for a relatively stock car. Some of them are, afterall, way off the scale! I just think it would save everyone the time to submit proposals if you are definitely not looking for certain styles and spec's, that's all. For example, if you want a dramatic engine bay shot with a pfaffing great polished turbo sticking out, you need to say so. Presumably it's a given that the car in question must satisfy certain criteria, such as immaculate presentation, i.e. no paint defects or scuffed rims. That narrows it down considerably already. I know it rules mine out anyway!
  14. All I can suggest is to pull off the HT leads at the other end and and re-connect them one by one, as well as any others that might possibly be an issue because of dampness or corrosion.
  15. How much fuel is in it and how old is it? Might be running on fumes. Has to be something very basic, I reckon.
  16. Thanks, if only more people would reply to their own threads. Glad it's sorted and wasn't anything too expensive.
  17. As long as we pay them, premiums will increase, as with everything else. The only effective solution is to stop buying it but third party only is £200 more than fully comprehensive, since no excess is chargeable. I'm 43 and have maximum no claims discount but paid £603 this year for the Supra when last time it was £480 or thereabouts. This is with a £1000 voluntary excess and another £100 compulsory. So unless I write off the car, I'm paying for any damage anyway, at least to my car.
  18. Sounds like a plan. Could be the cam position sensor in this car? Maybe some oil contamination even?
  19. Hello Nicolas and welcome to the club. I'm really liking those wheels. How much? wwAoJcOqAKc
