  1. Anyone interested in the lot for £300?
  2. Hello, Sorry, I've only just seen the reply above. I'd rather not post it, so if anyone is interested in picking it up from Stourbridge (DY9) let me know. I'll leave it out for the scrap men in a week if there's no interest. Thanks
  3. Bump Open to offers as I need this gone
  4. The pump had been damaged, apparently by the vibration from the engine knocking. Needed a replacement pump and it was all working fine.
  5. Got the car back Saturday and it's just been part exchanged! What a stressful few months that's been
  6. Update time! So we finally got the car back on Saturday with the new engine. The mechanic drove it for 20 miles, we drove it for about 10. Took it to a dealer yesterday to part exchange it for a new car. They said they'd give us a price today, which they did, and on the way to taking the car to them, the gearbox went. It won't engage drive or reverse, but at least the new engine is running fine... The mechanic had the car back, checked the gearbox oil and found it to be dirty. Replaced it and it still won't engage gears. He's taking going to take the gearbox off tomorrow and make sure it was all put back together correctly, but he's certain it was. I don't know how we can be so unlucky with this damn car, but I can't wait to see the back of it!
  7. Yep, it's her car, so gotta make her feel confident. Plus we use it to tow our caravan, so don't want to risk being stranded with that somewhere, and no doubt it'll always be in the back of our minds. It's also dire on fuel, but most cars within our budget that can tow a caravan are, as the wife wants something high up like an SUV still. The other option is to get rid, get me an estate for our family/towing car, and get her something smaller (still high up) and decent on fuel!
  8. So the new engine is finally being delivered on Thursday, and hopefully fitted before the end of the week! Our dilemma now is whether to keep the car or swap it for something else when we have it back. The car has done 50k miles, and the new engine has only done 31k. It's from a Santa Fe that was rear ended, and it does have 3 months warranty with it. I reckon we keep it as it's got a new, low mileage engine in it, but my wife is pulling more towards swapping it for something else due to the fact it's required such a large repair for a relatively new car, and something else may go wrong. Any thoughts on this from anyone here?
  9. Haha victims of crime compo lol
  10. Spoken to Hyundai and they said it has to be less than 5 years old and it needs to have been serviced annually by Hyundai for them to get involved and give any assistance. I've done a lot of research and ringing around, and we're getting a second hand engine fitted. Hopefully won't cost any more than £5k for the supply and fit, but not happy at all about paying it!
  11. It's only done 50,000 miles and is a 2.2 diesel. Super unfortunate
  12. Update: The mechanic the car is with has confirmed the crankshaft main bearing beneath cylinder 3 has worn out and is loose. The crankshaft has been scored by it, so needs to be replaced. He's looking for a replacement bottom end or full replacement engine, which isn't ideal. I'd like to just sell the car as spares or repair and get something else, but it feels like it'll be worth repairing it and getting rid of it. Not the best timing with the wife on maternity leave!
  13. I can't see that there have been any engine issues with this model, so seems to just be one of those things. I have it booked in with an engine specialist on Friday, so hopefully they'll find the issue easily and it'll be a simple repair... I'll send an update once it's gone for surgery lol
  14. Thanks for that Another garage checked and there are no error codes. They unplugged each injector and the noise changed slightly but remained with each one. The guy that looked at it thinks it's an issue within the head, possibly something stuck. I replaced the oil and filter earlier and the noise persists. I moved a strong magnet through the old oil and nothing stuck to it, but there were quite a lot of copper coloured metal flakes on the filter. I'd be happy to take the cam covers off to check what the issue is, but may as well ask the professionals to do it so it can be (hopefully) repaired at the same time it's apart.
  15. Hi all, My wife's 2016 Hyunai Santa Fe's engine started knocking on Boxing Day towards the end of a 10 minute drive. It seems to be coming from the top of the engine, from one of the two middle cylinders. From reading I've done, it seems like it could be "injector nailing" where fuel ignites before fully getting into the combustion chamber. A garage looked at it today and said that they feel like it's something within the engine and it's not advisable to drive it. I've parked it on a residential street near to the garage for now. I've tried phoning around engine specialists, but no one is answering due to the time of year. Has anyone come across this before that may be able to help in diagnosing it? The noise starts after about a minute of driving from cold. Admittedly, the car is due a service, and when I took the oil cap off, it had sludgy black oil on it, so wondering if this could have blocked an oil way and caused starvation. Surely a warning light would come on if so. Thanks for any help, Josh
