Update 13/10/12 - water getting in to spark plug wells
st1989 replied to dave5526's topic in mkiv Technical
Not too sure about the lights but i blew a coolant hose at one point and ended up with water on coils, made engine run rough. So would start by drying up coil area as best as possible, an air compressor would be best to blow out water before removing plugs then clean spark plugs etc and start the car and see how it runs. You could always do a compressions test while you have plugs out just to make sure the head gasket is okay. Best to have the supra on a hill/ramp when filling the coolant as the heater matrix hoses are at the top of the engine, lets the air out easier when bleeding the system. -
What sort of power figures could you expect from that set up? Looking to go a similar route myself.

Hi guys, I'm wondering if any of you know a website that I can purchase new coolant hoses? The ones I require are the two at the back of the block going from and to the heater matrix. Cars a j-spec twin turbo 94' Have searched loads of sites but can't seem to see anything. I know I can go to Toyota but just seeing if I can get better prices online! Thanks in advance! Leigh

Hi guys, time to service my tt, searched around and there is so many oil types to go for!! can any of you guys recommend a good engine oil to yse in regards to the age of the car? as said above its a twin turbo import, roughly 80,000 miles. also, the correct coolant? (draining and flushing radiator at same time) everything else has been changed (fuel filter, spark plugs etc) your help would be much appreciated! cheers! leigh

Hi guys, ive got a code 34, (turbo pressure malfunction) i have checked the wastegate VSV and found it to be faulty, resistance doesnt match the book. im wondering if toyota is the only place to get the vsv? any other supra part webistes that supply them? guessing toyotas prices will be pretty hectic! cheers!

hi guys, J-spec 94 twin turbo, did a boost leak test according to.. http://www.supraforums.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-78644.html will it matter if the car is set to ttc mode? also, this may sound silly but when i pressure up the system i did find a few leaks and sorted them, cant hear any more but the pressure drops pretty quick, could this have anything to do with valves being open in the head or should the pressure in the system stay put? the car only hits around 0.6 bar of boost, i have the car in ttc just now, it used to boost at a bar but all of a sudden wont anymore, when i put the foot down it will spike up to a bar then drop and settle at 0.6ish, feels like the car is hesitating, i have reduced the spark plug gap to 0.6mm, there nology D4YS plugs? anyone any view on them? had a boost leak for a while now, not sure if its something to do with the wastegate? im sure when i hit boost i can hear to what sounds like air hissing from somewhere but am not 100% sure, thanks in advance!

hi guys, ive discovered the factory BOV on my tt is faulty, seal under spring has worn away and when accelerating can hear the car trying to dump the boost so to speak. so im looking to get a replacement, would prefer a recirculating BOV, but opinions are welcome. just looking to know whats best on the market just now and your own views of what you's have fitted. thanks in advance!

perfect, cheers mate!

Hi guys, I've been searching for ages, I have a AEM air fuel gauge fitted to the car and I have noticed the sensor in the exhaust is bent does anyone know where I can get one? I bought a new sensor to which I thought was correct but it had the two bolt manifold on it, (the one for pre cat) need one that screws in if you get me. The sensor being located after pre-cat and before 2nd cat. The gauge just sits at 14.8 It's a 95" j-spec twin turbo (auto) if this info helps Don't wanna have to buy a new gauge to get the sensor. Cheers guys

guys ive been trying for ages to set this sensor, once ive tried setting it ive been told to pull out efi fuse no2, leave it for a min or so then try start the car. ive tried this but when the car is started the throttle "clicks" then once it stops the slip control light flashes, i noticed when driving it the manu mode wont work either. ive had the car running and loosened the sensor, i can hear it clicking once and then the revs drop. can anybody shed some light on how this sensor works and how to set it properly as i dont quite understand the maunal. cheers
-
Well I dot think it's any wires as I took the throttle sensor off not realising what it was I'm just wondering if these can be set again easily? And how to set it, I've loosened the screws while the car is running and I can hear the sensor opening and closing. Just don't know where it should be set.
-
hi guys, got a problem, my slip control light is flashing, ive had the throttle body off today but after putting it back on the slip light started flashing when i started the car ive read in another post that this can be caused by the throttle position sensor and read that i was to loosen the two screws and see how it adjusted the revs, i can hear the sensor clicking and the revs drop but i dont know what it should be set at. any ideas? cheers

hi guys, so im narrowing out a few minor issues with the car, split pipes, old intercooler etc and came across a non functional gauge. ive got an AEM air/fuel gauge fitted to the car, and well, its stuck sitting at 14.8? the gauge used to vary, it never changes, maybe 14.7 for a min or two then back to 14.8 no matter wether im idling or driving. i did read this could be down to a faulty sensor, if so could this be affecting the car in any other way (boost levels/performance/ or damage?) if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated also if anyone knows where i can get a new sensor from? or is it just a case of phoning toyota parts? thanks,

yeah best thing to improve the engine would be to reduce the restriction in the airbox system, and also exhaust, as said above giving the engine a good check over will help it run a lot smoother! could go for a new exhaust system with decat and no silencers to reduce the restriciton in the system and get the manifold and downpipe heat wrapped or coated, reduce the temprature around the engine? could go for some weight loss in the car? cams? really depends on how far your willing to go without the addition of turbos.

just a wee update for you guys, i went toyota for a 3 of the hoses, all the rest (all coolant/turbo related) have been bought and am awaiting delivery, there all gonna be blue apart from toyota ones, should add nice effect to engine bay. i took a closer look at the stock intercooler and it was safe to say it had its time! A HKS front mount intercooler has been ordered, along with new spark plugs, oil, oil filter etc, will get everything done just now to ensure the car is running at its best!

Ok cool, thanks guys, in the middle of ordering some parts just now for the car!

hi guys, wondering if you can help me choose a hid kit? for an imported 1995 twin turbo, just wondering if there is a different fitment for uk spec and jap spec models? cheers,
-
Can anybody recommend a good hose replacement kit? Looking to replace all coolant/turbo hoses. There all standard just now and look like they need replaced!
-
yeah thats it guys, cheers! its running smooth, just ensuring the radiator is free of air locks! :)
-
yeah it has, just noticed that now, blowing all water and drying everything out, then clean plugs etc, will let you know if it runs ok after
