After polishing with Auto Solvosol, I give it a squib of WD40 and a light wipe. Once a month is enough to stop the winter salt from eating my wheels, keeps the alloy engine parts bright, lubricates moving parts and 'nurishes' plastic. Love the stuff. Just be careful not to get it on any balance weights as it dissolves the glue.

Have you considered the Apexi spring loaded tail silencer? Does the same job for less. Pic of one in 'my garage'
