After first checking that the little sump bolts are not seized to the casting, I now have a 3/8" drive impact gun, this handy & lightweight lithium battery powered tool whizzes out the 19 sump, 3 strainer and/or 15 N/A - 18 T.T. valve-body bolts and has a transmission apart in less time than it takes for you to make me a cup of tea. My favourite toy, loaded with a 12 point 10mm deep socket. Now that I have the ultimate undooer, I have searched around and found myself the ultimate dooerupper. This thing armed with a shallow throat-ed 12 point 10mm 3/8" deep socket is the perfect tool to both locate the little bolts in their holes and to spin up the slack ready for the torque wrench.

For those who would like their transmission shimming without having to remove it from the car. I have made a set of Special Service Tools, bought a huge drip tray and developed a system that allows a cripple aided by a spannerlexic to rebuild A340E hydraulics from underneath. You need to; safely & in this order; on a level hard surface get the car up onto 4 axle stands, drain the sump and get me to it. Note: I will require the use of your OE Supra jack and 2 house bricks. (Please have these required SST's to hand) If this option is preferable to removing the transmission and bringing it to me, you get the added bonus of a review of the ATF coolant system. Getting to you and shimming a box from underneath is a 10x+ larger job for me, nevertheless, I charge no more for this. However, I don't have transport and you must get me to it.

You will require; 1 x A340E-GE C-0 accumulator, pre loved with good O-ring or new. 1 x A340E-GE strainer. (I have stock) 1 x small tube of Loctite Grey. (I have stock) 10 litres of Premium ATF. 1 bottle of Lucas SS. Get the Supra up onto 4 axle stands and have the sump drained for at least 24 hours before it is worked on.

Top Tip Treat yourself to a sump removal tool, one of these will reduce the awkward task of breaking the pan seal down to a doddle of a job. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sealey-Sump-Separator-VS664/291700858087?var=590728412969&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D45565%26meid%3D6aecafeffcf441d49568d7751a95d27e%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D140703714130&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

TOP TIP The little MT6 x 1.0 sump bolts often seize into the aluminium casting and can easily be sheared off, creating a PITA job to fix. At least 24 hours before removing an A340E sump, squib WD40 or similar onto these open threads in the aluminium casting. I use my torque-wrench set @ 8 ftlb to start undoing them, if there is a problem it will go click instead of snapping the bolt. If it does click, free up the bolt by heating the casting around the thread with a gas blowlamp. (If you don't do this, 3 or 4 threads at the end of the bolt will become bound with aluminium and destroy the remainder of the thread in casting as the bolt is undone.) Thank you Garry, that demonstrates the quicker & slicker changes a treat. Looking forwards to you getting some runs in at Supra Pod to compare with previous times? I have added the embed codes. SA3. mellonman's T.T. (A340E-GTE) transmission with shimmed actuators & 500ftlb. "back to back time with no other changes then your shimmed box and the times was 13.5 vs 13.2 , I done 2 runs like this" Launch (Zero to 100mph in 9 seconds?) SA3. mellonman's T.T. Feedback shimmed T.T. transmission. SA5. Iky "Hi David, I hope you're well. Just want to let you know, Over the last few days ive got round to giving the shimmed box a thorough good testing. It feels much more punchy with a lot less revs lost between gear changes. Also feels a lot smoother too but that could be down to the fresh fluid and new strainer. This is in my opinion how these cars should have been when they left the factory. Well done on your research and thank you for sharing it with us. Kind regards, Iky." "Hi David, Also think i should mention, i did purchase a 6speed conversion. But will be keeping the auto gearbox for another project in the meantime. Kind regards, Iky."
