Early TT's only had one small, rear mounted electric fan, later models have two. I aussume both models had the front mounted fan to assist the aircon. Could it be/have you identified the thermostat plug?

The larger female plug in the bottom pic looks like the one that goes to the front mounted electric fan. It normally gets removed if fitting a fmic.

Here's a pic of the one that goes to the chassis, but mine has a different lug to the one you have Can you take another pic of the wire you are talking about showing more of the cable?
