1. The most amazing thing about this car is it has an OE air box. That's got to be worth £1k on the price seeing you cannot get them anymore.
2. We experienced a problem with one of our cars recently (as in a month ago) that kept running rough or even cutting out completely and the garage we went to said they suspect a problem with water in supermarket fuels at the moment as they have seen a spate of people reporting the same problem. You might just need a full tank of non supermarket fuel and maybe throw in a cleaning additive for good measure. After 3 tank fills the car is now running fine again.
3. I don't think you'd regret it. So easy to work on and so much fun. I wouldn't like to pick my favourite between the MGB and Supra because that's kind of hard, different cars for different drives.
4. I've never bothered covering any parts other than exposed air filters on some cars or carburettor intakes when doing an engine wash down. I've just warmed the engine (not hot but hand warm) then sprayed away. Always done on a warm day and left bonnet up to dry which usually only takes no more than an hour or so with a good breeze. For serious grime around the sump or leaking oil gaskets I spray on some diesel an hour or so before spray washing and that tends to soften up most oil or grease derived deposits. Never had any issues with starting after doing things this way. Its not something I'd ever contemplate doing in the middle of Winter.
5. I figured it could be useful for others to update this thread with the jspec engine ecu part numbers for reference: Supra ECU Part Numbers (Auto, J-Spec, NA): - 89661-14600 (93-97) - 89661-14810 (97-99) Supra ECU Part Numbers (Auto, J-Spec, TT): - 89661-14490 (9305-9310) - 89661-14491 (9310-9605) Supra ECU Part Numbers (5Spd, J-Spec, NA): - 89661-14610 (only number listed) Supra ECU Part Numbers (6Spd, J-Spec, TT): - 89661-14500 (9305-9310) - 89661-14501 (9310-9605) - 89661-14770 (9605-9709) - 89661-14830 (9709-)
6. This box set on eBay must be somewhere close to you and its reasonably priced. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stack-on-tool-box-with-halfords-top-box-/332030356628?hash=item4d4e8d2c94:g:gM0AAOSw8gVX3E1z
7. First time, I believe, its come up as an auction sale.
8. I bought one of these 2 years ago in a Halfords sale for £99. 36% inflation over two years sounds a lot to me. Its a good kit apart from the torx set that does rust badly. Also its a pain to put all the parts back in if they all fall out bar the spanners which did happen to me once when it fell off a shelf.
9. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1994-UK-TOYOTA-SUPRA-TWIN-TURBO-440BHP-4K-ICE-APEXI-GAUGES-DVD-MAY-SWAP-PX-/262729903051?hash=item3d2bec2bcb:g:aY4AAOSwcUBYKGzM Just relisted after failing to sell on a sub £10k classified with best offer. Its not difficult to see what will be putting people off but if its OK underneath it could be a real bargain with £1k put aside for a wheel refurb and to spray over the pink bits. If it were a manual I'd get past the pink.
10. If only. I think it is the show pictures that add the value, with the as featured. There could be a moratorium placed on selling a vehicle with show pictures supporting a sale as that infers some kind of club association. I was surprised to see a guy advertising his 280 Capri on eBay during the NEC show with stand pictures and a come along to the stand to view write up. So, there is no doubt people can and do use shows to shop front their cars and deals can be struck rules or no rules. Its just as well as a owner of mine for 18 years going on soon to 19 years that thought to sell never crossed my mind, at all and its unlikely it ever will. All offers received, being lots, were politely and firmly refused with a firm not for sale. But the OP could attend any car show as a way of finding out what the marketplace has to offer with a good cross section of owners and cars, from totally honest and stock to completely modified with bolt on anything you could think of and some may then, or very soon after, become available to buy. Like nicky I'm on the look out for a new Supra. I have negotiated on a stock jspec TT6 with low miles (km's actually) and its offered at a reasonable price. It's not in the colour I wanted so I low balled and had a nibble suggesting a improved offer would secure. If the OP would consider a jspec TT6 he can PM me and I'll send him over the details as it looks a good car from a reputable source. Just not UK original. Only PMs from the OP please as they are considering and may yet come back and accept my low ball offer!
11. That's you trumped then. Go see them, isn't it legal to carry guns in Arizona?
12. Really...
13. You really don't need any luck. There was a house of Lords ruling in 2014 that confirmed UK credit protection laws do extend to purchases made from overseas suppliers.
14. I have delved a bit into how 'good' the people working this site are and it appears they are very bad. So, best avoided. It seems operated out of Africa and you need to send your money to them and they then undertake the Japanese purchase (sometimes). Reviews say sometimes nothing ever appears and they don't ever see their money again and other reviews say sometimes a completely different car turns up. Only great reviews are from those with very poor English. Seems it is either a very poor come scammers site so one to avoid!
15. Those would be: 62381-14140 and 62382-14150 I paid $82 plus carriage and taxes for those last month. They are around £145 from Toyota GB each.
16. If you pay be credit card you are covered by UK credit protection on purchases in or outside of the UK so there isn't a problem security wise where you buy, so long as you pay by credit card.
17. Seals or sills? If you mean seals then I just brought a two door lower and upper set in from the USA for 60% of the cost of Toyota GB 10% discounted price. No idea what Keron is charging but I'm sure he would be happy to quote you if you contact him and he does do a quick turnaround which isn't available from the USA suppliers.
18. I don't think its a panic stage. There are plenty of companies around that re-core radiators and heater matrix's. Just means people will have to park up the car while the core is repaired or replaced and it may cost more than an off the shelf Toyota one did (though maybe not knowing Toyota prices). Supra owners will just need to get savvy about having parts fixed, patched or machined. welcome to old classic car ownership! http://readyrads.co.uk/
19. Stock (without air box) 1997 VVTI Supra just come up in Japan for £10,000. Looks like it hasn't be loved but someone could land it in the UK for around £14k. Its a bargain price in comparison to all the other TT6's currently advertised in Japan that I've seen. https://www.tradecarview.com/used_car/toyota/supra/19783420/
