Supra parked up over winter (condensation problems!)
rider replied to Andrew K's topic in Supra Chat
£15 ACF or £4 WD40? That's a tough call. "tested how well a number of substances prevented rust. The results surprised us: Plain old WD-40 was the most successful in keeping rust from forming on a mild steel surface, outperforming many other substances engineered specifically the job." Its basically white spirit - about 90% from memory. Light base oil and a corrosion inhibitor that leaves a very thin protective film. An alternative would be 10% engine oil in white spirit but that has detergents and acid neutralisers in it that are metal based. Plain ordinary WD40 will suffice. -
I have identified a US supplier who says they are willing to move the heel pad to the correct side of the carpet who retails Supra carpets in a complete kaleidoscope of colours all for about $250. That's about a fifth of the price of now discontinued OE carpets so who knows until you see one what the quality comparison is going to be. For all those original cream cars with a beige carpet that have had it dyed this could be a way out to return a car back to stock look. Anyone who wants the identity of the retailer revealed PM me. Not prepared to put it into open forum just yet as I'm talking to them about price options and if they can send a carpet sample for inspection and comparison to OE at the moment.

If you are uncovered and under a carport there isn't much you can do to improve airflow. One thing you could do is spray WD40 over everything as a moisture and corrosion barrier. Seeing its white spirit with a little bit of light oil based it would not hang around once you get the engine running again.. -
The SIM card is to text tracking data to a mobile phone number. You usually ping it with a message and it'll send the position data back. GPS is fine under the dash. Its only if you were to push it behind sheets of metal the GPS signal could be blocked. These simple tracker systems have been used for probably 10 years now and unlike the TM tracker there are no annual subs. Just needs credit on a PAYG sim card, a GPS signal and a phone signal to work effectively. Read and learn - 280 odd reviews to trawl through https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tracker-Vehicle-Theft-Protection-System-x/dp/B003XDN58K/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1483809365&sr=8-8&keywords=gps+tracker

Did it pass the MOT with that level of window tint?
-
I'm not sure if the Supra had OBD 1 ports.
-
The Supra doesn't have a OBD2 socket and I don't think there are 1 to 2 converters but there are plenty of GPS trackers on eBay that people use that cost about £25 and only require a PAYG sim card and mains feed and fitment under dash.

That's all very technical Chris and I know there are many who do struggle with the technical aspects. Do you have an overview, summary, key points snapshot kind of idiots guide to understanding exhaust dynamics relative to variables of size, bends, packing? Otherwise everyone will just go big bore every time because its noisier and looks mean.

I think its the same part number that applies to all Supra production years.

I used to spend a lot of time in that part of the World. Cologne is a really fantastic city, great architecture considering not much is more than 72 years old. I used to get there in 10 hours from Shropshire so its not a long drive and the forests East of Aachen with hills and reservoirs offer up a really nice drive arena after a blast SW on the Autobahn.

I think the days of £40 a wheel have gone, everyone around here is £60 a wheel these days for a simple colour application. I had mine done shadow chrome silver on black and they were £70 a wheel 2 years ago.

Been offered a mkiv UK 2jz manual BUT with 240k miles looking for advice
rider replied to a topic in Supra Chat
I'd recon if you can buy it for £9-10k which is a lot more than what it would have been worth 5 years ago and do nothing to it beyond keep it MOT'd and running you will probably get a better return that if you spent good amounts of money making good with new parts and paint to turn back its well used old age. Depends whether you want it as a driver that will appreciate unless something major goes bang or a money pit rejuvenated classic. -
Thanks guys for the leads. PMd Bob B to ask for price .

Do you have a link to the car listing? It'd be easier for people to offer an appraisal if they could see it. From what I hear silver is not an easy colour to match, in fact one members car is fondly referred to as 50 shades of silver. Silver is possibly the least popular colour as there was so many of them 93 - 95. There is no harm looking at any car, the bad ones help you appreciate the good ones.

Started reminiscing there. I bought my first 6 cylinder coupe when I was 19. The reminiscing went something like, shit that was expensive to insure.

That's strictly for those whose partners do yoga. Mine doesn't.

As everyone says, its a waiting game. Needs someone wanting to sell at the time someone wants to buy and then the two might well be able to agree on a price as anyone not wanting to sell is either not going to offer their car for sale or they are going to want to much for it. importing is out of bounds as far as I can see at the moment with prices for a TT6 now starting at £20k to get here and on the UK road. So the choice is to widen the search to include other cars or adopt patience in the belief something will come along eventually and make the wait worthwhile. T2, I think you'd be surprised about the way pricing is going and its going in a good way if you are a current or future seller of a well cared for not trashed or dogged in Supra, but we can chat about that anyway on Saturday.

J-spec TT6 import cost are soaring - maybe a R35 GT-R makes more sense
rider replied to rider's topic in Supra Chat
£25k+ would be for a TT6 around 100k km so around the same as your one. There are some real low use cars listing at the moment or recent past with one under 30k km but that was auction start price over £40k FOB Japan. -
Anyone who monitors the Japanese auction and estimate prices will have seen the recent big jump in prices for clean and unmolested TT6's now running at £40k for low milers. I have contacted a few importers with a view to potentially importing a TT6 and been told that would require a budget of minimum £25k which is to far over current UK market values to make it a financially attractive proposition to import. I'm thinking of switching my car search to a R35 GT-R as they can be had for £40k+ in the UK and will almost certainly also be a vehicle with enduring appeal. I was advising people at the NEC Classics show that unmolested TT6's will be fetching £35k - £45k within seven to ten years, it seems it could well be sooner. If anyone here owns or has owned a R35 GT-R please PM me as I'd really appreciate a chat with someone who knows the car inside out.

Just talked to Keron. None in at the moment but there might be a second hand set in a little while if a breaker comes in. Said the brakes would be second hand (front and rears) £650 for callipers and rotors if in good nic. New would be close to £2k and he hasn't stocked new for over a year due to the price and no one wanting to pay that much.
-
Where? I've only ever seen kits including pads and rotors for around the £1k mark so the callipers must be around £600? I'm in the market for UK fronts and rears (callipers and rotors) and will buy new so any info on sources and prices is good.

Did you mean to post this in the BMW forum?

The mileage history is good so apart from the colour, that's just me, it could well be a good Supra. Its not that easy a buy these days as so few come up for sale but its always good to drive more than one of any specific car before choosing. Back in 1998, I ended up buying the 6th I looked at and it must have worked out OK as I still have that car today and its been 100% reliable. So the best advice I could give is unless its a steal or so good you would be mad to walk away is don't buy it until you have had the chance to look around a few. Maybe some members in your area could let you come see and talk over theirs before you head to see L208 MJB?

I wouldn't be certain it fits a UK RHD car unless you know for definite it does or someone on here knows it does. Megan Racing write up only says good for Euro and US spec which are, as far as I know, both LHD only. This could possibly be why it has never been fitted. You may have more joy advertising on some FB sites to reach Euro spec Supra owners.
