  1. The stock TT pistons are easily recognisable by the two holes for the oil shaker hollow section inside the crown of the piston. I know of no aftermarket pistons that have the hollow crown and the oil entry and egress holes.
  2. Quite cheap assuming it comes with a free taste lobotomy at a Harley Street surgeon of repute.
  3. It would be far more cost effective to leave the thing to its own devices and just buy a new one. It's amazing what I find when I take undertrays off cars Taking seats out can be positively embarrassing and even a health risk....
  4. Looks very reasonable to me, if they fitted OE Toyota brake hoses the price is the price, nothing else looks excessive at all. I'll swap you for this one if you like ?
  5. Without a timing wheel on the crank, and a dial gauge on the cams the markings are meaningless REFERENCED TO ACTUAL VALVE EVENTS V CRANK POSITION. Belt stretch, block height tolerances / machining, head depth tolerances / machining will all change cam to crank position. Only when you have real time valve event figures referenced to say TDC can you say if the cams are neutral, advanced or retarded, and the graduations mean anything other than degrees cam movement relative to their sprockets. Checking it with the engine in the car is a nightmare, best to do it on an engine stand.
  6. They'll check both sides individually, in case you are being clever and one is restricted to fool the machine
  7. I run a Motec mappable engine ecu on a couple of circuit race cars. This ecu accepts an input from a GPS receiver, and logs the co ordinates in memory. A data analysis package from Motec then draws a track map showing the cars position and a GPS speed etcetera. I currently use a 5 Hz Garmin receiver called a GPS18x-5Hz the technical spec is in this Garmin paper: http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/GPS18x_TechnicalSpecifications.pdf Motec charge a fortune for this obsolete Garmin unit that they sell ready terminated in a Motec box, I purchased an unadulterated Garmin one from Ebay for 1/3 of the price and just put a Deutsch connector on it, and it worked fine straight out of the box. Motec also list faster updating receiver units, these being with a separate antenna to the receiver itself, the best of which seems to be 20Hz, see screenshot of catalogue page at: http://www.gatesgarth.com/motec.jpg These are extraordinarily expensive, being £1200 UK pounds, about $1940 US Dollars. Given I am doing this on a tight budget, could I purchase something that will work the same, maybe not in a nice die cast box, and save myself a lot of money? Can anyone suggest devices to investigate that will communicate by RS232? I doubt I can get or work out the Can Bus info to read a GPS Receiver by that means. I can probably get more info on the protocols the Motec ecu expects, they have a webinar on using GPS that explains this, but the little self contained Garmin GPS18x-5Hz worked fine "as is" by RS232. Thanks for any help here.
  8. Look here, this is typical for many UK circuits, but some have a lower limit. Donington has occasional days with NO noise maximum limit, but they are costly and book up early. https://tickets.motorsportvision.co.uk/MSV-info/trackday_terms/Oulton%20Park%20Trackdays%20Terms.pdf
  9. Oh, and sorry, I should have said thanks for the info on flocking, looks good, but it's not worth me investing 1K in gear for a one off job. Cheers. Do places do this for a living, might get a price to have someone else do it.
  10. If you are not in a rush i can supply a pair with new stainless steel pistons. may be two or so weeks away though. I have a good secondhand LH (90% sure it's a LH, need to double check), in good order. Offers please for used.
  11. I have one with a steel wheel, (bearings are renewable in these, unlike the plastic wheeled ones), I can supply with a new bearing in it if you want? Cash offer by e-mail if you are interested please.
  12. The grey, definitely the grey.... looks very classy indeed, but delete the wing and sill things. Wheels look good.
  13. I still want a car in the same colour as the Volvo in this thread, I'm not one for fancy paint jobs, but it's unusual and tasteful: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?127798-How-would-a-MKIV-look-in-this-colour&highlight=volvo+colour

    New car

Seriously though, lovely looking machine, you must be itching to get it home.

    New car

Check it for a cracked block and signs of prised off JUN labels
  16. Do you have any ladders? You could have a game until someone adopts it.
  17. Forget it, if I had my time again I would have : A: Listened to my parents and been a lawyer. B: Listened to my mate's dad who was a dodgy immigrant doctor and opened an abortion clinic. C: Listened to the excuses my dad heard as to why the XYX Plumbing Company was too busy, and become a plumber. Do many new drivers in the UK actually bother with driving licences any more?

Looks fabulous, make sure there's an intact engine in it though!
  19. Looks like a great trip, very jealous, take care, post videos. Have a wonderful time! Llandow eat your heart out
  20. Looking good, should be another lovely MKIV!
  21. I still have some new connectors..... I did a RL Traction Control repair today, how odd is that?
  22. You could just do a Tipex test to be sure it's not just slipping, rather than the outer rim come off altogether. Zero cost test
  23. I REALLY feel for you Jurgen. You must have spent a fortune in time and money on this. I have to say I am not surprised by this news though. A THOUSAND horsepower + is a huge amount of power, the loadings on everything must be massive. Production block castings were never meant to take those sorts of loadings, and modern thin wall lightweight alloy blocks must be especially lacking in reserves of strength. I don't know what to say, I can only imagine how you must feel. Financially you could strip the engine, get the crank, rods and pistons digitised and sell some kits of your own based on your own sourced parts. I did think of suggesting this to you when you posted all those photos of expensive looking bits, but I think the block came assembled? Just an idea to get SOMETHING back from this disaster. Chin up, you tried and did a great job, but they were some seriously big numbers you were playing with there!
  24. Croft have had absolutely TERRIBLE trouble with just a handful of neighbours who have brought taxpayer funded cases against them for noise pollution. This is the result, it's not their fault, they'd love "normal" track days and an expanded race calendar.
