Autosol vs Meguiars Finishing vs AutoGlym Metal Polish
a98pmalcolm replied to a98pmalcolm's topic in Supra Chat
NXT Stuff is great, I used that for years, thought I'd give the Finishing Polish a go this time around. I guess its similar but this stuff is white apposed to the NXT stuff which is blue. -
Autosol vs Meguiars Finishing vs AutoGlym Metal Polish
a98pmalcolm replied to a98pmalcolm's topic in Supra Chat
Hi Gaz. Autosol on Chrome will ruin it. I found that out the expensive way back in my Ford days. If Autosol ia used on Chrome it will scratch the hell out of it really badly. Due due the reason you gave. Its pretty harsh. Super resin polish is the stuff to use on Chrome -
Hey all.. Bit of a spin off this thread: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?341980-White-Diamond-Metal-Polish I have been using a few different metal polishes over the years and recently due to my car being off the road over xmas and left outside to rot a little, I have been working on getting all the rough/damaged polished areas of my engine bay at up to scratch. Its a lot better than it was but being being a fussy git I'm always on the hunt for something to make things look better. In this case the best metal polish. So I thought I'd use the 3 I have here already and do a comparison on my inlet manifold, this could be something that may come handy for someone else... So the 3 in comparison are: 1. Autosol Metal Polish 2. Meguiars Finishing Metal Polish 3. Autoglym Metal Polish Note* This is not the NXT Meguiars metal polish but the Finishing Metal Polish, its a little harder to some by being its focused on the American market. This is the manifold in its current state, had a basic polishing last week I taped up 3 sections for the comparison All 3 polishes applied Left - Autosol - We all know this one its like toothpaste.. Middle - Meguiars - In a container, quite a solid thick substance. Right - AutoGlym - Really thin, similar to paint polish, not the most easy to manage, especially over small areas. All 3 buffed Off You can tell the best one already Closer Result of Autosol Closer result of Meguiars Closer Result of AutoGlym After removing the tape completely you can see the left being Autosol and the right side being AutoGlym the results are very similar, but at my surprise the Meguiars really stands out, so much you can actually see a line of a finer, higher and better result of polishing. The Meguiars stuff you can really feel it working itself due to it feeling more difficult than the other 2 to apply near on straight after you begin to rub it in. All 3 did a good job, but with the Meguiars one standing out the best so I thought I'd quickly do the whole manifold with the Meguiars. Results weren't too bad: Well It come use to some of you, or may have made an interesting read to some, thanks thanks for reading anyway Paul

Thanks for the reply Mike. Its actually quite surprising how well Black Hammerite smooth direct to rust comes out. I did my diff case with a brush.

May sound odd to some but to some of us that are fussy about your engine bays it may make sense to you lol.. I feel one of the let downs when looking into my engine bay is my water pump, over the 23 years its been on there it has that slight corroded dirty look. Taking the pump of is a bit of a chore, so I was thinking I could use Hammerite smooth and brush paint it (did wonders with my diff case) Just wondered if anyone has done anything like this before? Paul

Thanks for the reply guys. Its what ever can make a mirror finish on alloy is what I'm after, Autosol is great but doesn't polish is up, just cleans it bloody well lol

sold BK993 19" Wheels With Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tyres
a98pmalcolm posted a topic in Parts for Sale
Hi Guys, as I bought new wheels I have my old ones for sale. They are BK 993 19" staggered wheels. 8" fronts 9.5" rear. I have had them resprayed in the same colour as the face lift rear lights surround while keeping the polished dish. There is signs of mild small corrosion under the paint around the center caps on one of the wheels. I have had custom TRD stickers make for the center caps but these can be peeled off. The wheels have Michelin Pilot super sports tyres front and back with lots of life on them I will get measurements tomorrow. Fronts are 225/35/19 and rears are 265/30/19 so they match sport on with each other. The wheels cover J-spec brakes no problem and only needed a 5mm spacer to cover mt big brembos so UK spec brakes should be fine. I have removed the fake plastic wheel rivets when they were refurbed but I believe there available on the net, I just never ended up buying any. No curbige on the rims so they are very good condition, although 1 wheel has a very subtle indent on 1 lip that isn't that noticeable from most angles, I don't know hoe it got there. They have Richbrook flush fit valves and I have a brand new set of valve covers that I will be giving with the wheels. I think £sold is a fair price due to the tyres being so good condition (8mm thread left on the front, 9mm thread left on the rear) Collection preferred, but delivery can be arranged. I will get fresh new Pics this weeks of the wheels. Few Pics I have saved. Pic from last week: Pic from 2 weeks ago Pics from last year Some pics from the repaint last year I have circled the indent that is on 1 wheel. And finally how the center caps are -
Thanks for the reply Lee I did try that but no luck. It seems worse than the pump thats on there, will retry it.

Some really nice pics there Mike, do you mind me saving the ones you took of mine for Facebook, Instagram ect?

Thanks for that berg. Sounds like you got the same problem test fitting it. I wonder where it could go..
-
Thanks bignum. Nope all is fine. Do you have it in the boot also?
-
Hey all.. Ok so a while back now I relocated my washer bottle to my boot. Ever since them I have had the lamest spray. I bought the Lexus IS200 fan pattern jets, used a fresh line through out the car, routed the washer line through the fiberglass bonnet so the line isn't clamping anywhere and still the water drizzles just above were the windscreen wipers sit when they are off. I have tried a few pumps and as there all designed to sit a couple of feet away from the jets they just aren't powerful enough to get a good spray if at all, the best pump was the one that came in the kit I bought. Does anyone that has done this have this issue? Or have an idea were I could get a super strong pump from? This is the kit I used: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160186-NEW-UNIVERSAL-12-VOLT-12V-WINDSCREEN-WASHER-BOTTLE-KIT-PUMP-JETS-SWITCH-/282152585487?hash=item41b19ac90f:g:cisAAOSwLVZVwnn-

Must be loads about with breaking Supras.

If the alternator was the issue the car battery most probably wouldn't last 45 mins, let alone the drive home.. The clicking sounds like the starter motor, common issue if you hear the ticking. But after jumping off another car it starts fine, so that would rule that out.
